This is a bit of a touristy place that is nevertheless amazing! It's a bit expensive by local standards: around 50 euros for 2 people, but the quality is very high. Spectacular place in Barcelona! This place felt really upscale but for really affordable prices! The ambiance is dark and the place is pretty small like any place in Barca. I will say that all of their dishes were plated so well and tasted as good as it looked! For the appetizer we got the octopus/calamari. It was sitting on top of this light green sauce. The octopus was such good quality. It wasn't super chewy or anything and the flavors came together well. We couldn't really tell what kind of sauce it was but it had a very neutral light taste to it that complimented the dish well. Next we got the famous beef cheeks dish and the chicken leg dish. The beef cheeks were very tender and it feel apart in a good way. The sweet potatoes that went with it were also done very well. We actually liked the chicken dish better than the beef cheeks. The chicken was just seasoned so well and it was complimented by this small jar of sauce that was so good. They even gave us some desser liquer to finish off the meal! Hands down best meal experience on our Spain trip, which included two 2-Michelin starred restaurants. There is so much to love about this place. One thing that I have found about myself is that I like to sit at the bar and chat with the bartender. The one at Viana was super helpful - he told us that the portion sizes here are fairly generous, and that most people find 2 dishes/person enough. He kindly told us we could always order more if we wanted, but that he just didn't want to see food wasted. Bread also costs extra, but it is written clearly in the menu, and they do not force it on you (you have to request it extra), which I found very refreshingly honest. And I haven't even gotten to the food. The tapas here is innovative and goes beyond your standard tapas. They start you off with a free appetizer - warm butternut squash soup, which was delicious. The boyfriend got a blueberry mojito, which seemed to be popular among others in the restaurant. We had the buratta (and let's be real, it's hard to mess that up), and the tuna tartar, which the boyfriend claims is one of the best things he's had on the trip. The spring rolls were good and the sauce tasted homemade, and not just from a packet. The dessert (cheesecake in a mason jar) was excellent. The only miss for us was the fried octopus with the seaweed foam. Something about the combination of frying an octopus (when it is more delicious grilled) and the somewhat bland flavor of the seaweed just didn't really jive with us. Nonetheless, a tiny blemish in an otherwise great experience. The staff are very friendly and were fine with conversing with us in English, which made our experience that much better. It was approaching dinner time and my wife was looking for a nicer restaurant in Barcelona and came across Viana on some website. Thankfully we were in close walking distance and figured we could make it close to opening time. It's a good thing we arrived when we did, maybe 10 minutes after opening as there were only 3 seats left available for walk-ins. If you want to eat here either make a reservation or show up as close to opening as possible, otherwise it will be a bit of a wait. We were seated at the bar close to the entrance, the space is pretty cozy all around. The bartender was super friendly and welcoming as was the waitress. We were presented the menu quickly and were able to order drinks pretty quick. The drinks from the bar are quality and take a bit more time to prepare, so don't expect yours to come out immediately. The benefit of being seated at the bar was to watch the bartender work and he made it an art form, all the while chatting up the patrons. One of the most entertaining things about this experience was the manager trying to manage people coming into the restaurant, it is a very narrow and tight squeeze. He was on it all while being pretty entertaining. We decided to order the Octopus to start, the "VIANA" suckling pig, and sometimes better than sex (threesome of chocolat). All three dishes were fantastic and came out perfectly timed. The octopus was really tender and the seaweed and potato foam was amazing, the waitress laughed at us for actually eating all of the foam. The suckling pig was amazing, super tender meat with a crispy skin with a delicious pear chutney that wasn't too sweet. We were amazed at how perfectly cut the pig was given how the meat just fell apart for us. It really was a perfectly rounded dish being sweet, savory, and salty. As for the threesome of chocolate, it was recommended to us by our waitress and the bartender. Another great dish of course. The fudge brownie was something a bit strange to see at a restaurant of this caliber, but having it paired with the chocolate ice cream and the chocolate mousse it works so well. The multitude of textures and levels of chocolate was great. Absolutely a must order if you like chocolate. The drinks were great, the blackberry mojito was one of the darkest drinks I've seen since it used black rum. Wonderfully prepared with some fresh berries and it was not too sweet. We had decided to get another drink while waiting for dessert and asked the bartender about any local gin as we had heard Spain has their own unique gin. He didn't know of one, but recommended Monkey 47. We agreed and while he was making our drink he was telling the story or maybe the legend of how it was created which was really interesting. Definitely one of the best gins I have ever tried and one of the best gin and tonics I've had. Overall this is a must try stop in Barcelona if you can get in for dinner. read more

The best time to come is either during lunch time when the restaurant just open which is at 1pm on Fri, Sat or Sun or make a reservation ahead of time. They only open for dinner on Mon-Thu starts at 6pm. As it gets later especially during the night, this place is getting more crowded and you have to stand in line, often times there's no guarantee you'll get a seat. Food and drinks are excellent, very delicious and the presentation are really pretty. The host is very friendly, always smile and handsome too.. can't ask for more ! Lol What I really like about this restaurant is that the ambience is casual, a small place, the bar is also small, service is fast. After reading the high reviews on trip advisor, we decided to try our luck with getting seated on a Tuesday evening without a reservation. We were surprised that it only took about 20 mins for them to accomodate a party of 2 at the bar. We ordered the prawn veggie rolls, a tuna dish, and the suckling pig main dish. All the dishes were outstanding and the tapas came out fairly quickly. Once a table for 2 cleared out ,they asked if we would like to move to a table instead and we delightfully accepted the offer. BEST meal I had on my recent trip to Barcelona. We made reservations for a group of 4 on a Saturday night around 930, which was a good call because it was very busy around that time. Even though we had reservations it took a few minutes for our table to be ready. Once seated, we ordered a bottle of red wine and a glass of their famous blackberry mojito. I'm not usually a mojito person because sometimes there's an overwhelming mint flavor but this one was perfect. A little expensive but it was worth trying. For food, we ordered the iberico ham that was served with tomato bread and both were delicious! I'd go back for the fresh warm bread and the ham. We also got carpaccio which had good a good flavor, was light and worthy of a reorder. White ceviche was ok, and the potatas bravas was very good, make sure to get a bite with a crispy warm potato, mixed with both the white sauce and the other sauce. It's the perfect bite. For the entree we chose the suckling pig which was good, but the potatoes accompanying the dish had too much rosemary and that flavor was overwhelming. The meal also came with a complimentary appetizer of tomatoes, mozzarella and pesto olive oil which was good but I would have preferred some bread with it to soak up more of the pesto. And a complimentary digestif was also served at the end of the meal, it was chocolate and easy to drink. If I ever return to Barcelona, I would definitely visit Viana again. A que si! Loved this cozy eatery hidden in one of el Barrio Gotico's many side streets. Took my 3 Catalan friends here for my farewell dinner and they were thoroughly impressed. ("How do you know about these places??" ....because you guys don't use Yelp yet). Lo Bueno: in short, price/quality/service. Every dish was tassssssty and had lovely presentation. One of the better cochinillos (suckling pig) I've had, and the fried pulpo is definitely worth a look. I was skeptical of the desert when I saw a cheesecake jammed into what looked to be a large mason jar...but my fears were unfounded as I ate more than my fair shake of this "shared" dish. Lo Malo: nothing from my perspective. True it's a bit crowded, especially at the bar, but it didn't bother our group.
