This place was recommended to us through A Place for Mom. We were told they could handle a high-level of care and a very sweet sales, lady confirmed that they could handle up to Level 6 care! After our tour, she made us leave feeling very confident that THIS was to be the place for us. We got all the paperwork in order and signed her up to move in 2 weeks later! Moving day, we showed up with no one to greet us for a long while.We were expecting some kind of warm welcome and a tour for my mother-in-law who had never been there. Nothing. We waited a while and then the Director and Nurse showed up. Instead of a warm welcome, they started listed all of their concerns. She's diabetic? We can't handle insulin in her current form. We can't help her with it. (We had previously been told it was no problem). Her bed was an issue. Needed to fix that right away. Her medicine was a problem since it was through Kaiser and not their pharmacy of choice (again not discussed previously). She can not live without her medicine. She is diabetic and has stage 4 cancer. Just problem after problem not discussed with us BEFORE MOVE IN! Next up, we leave her alone and in their care. She is in depends and needs a 2 person assist or a hoyer lyft to transport her in and out of her wheelchair, into the shower, etc. We were told we had to bring her own hoyer lyft or they would not move her. They let her sit in a dirty depend for many hours until my husband went and brought her hoyer lyft from her house. (Again, they did not tell us this BEFORE move in). Once we brought the hoyer lyft, the staff did not know how to use it. As days went on and she laid in her bed with soiled depends for way too many hours and had to have either us or someone else go there to assist her with her insulin, we ended up bringing in extra caregivers to assist her for 8 hours a day. So at this point, we were paying $8,000 to Terra Bella for very minimal care plus another $65000 for personal caregivers to pick up the slack.After almost three weeks, we decided to move her out. I do not anyone to have to go through what we went through. My mother-in-law is fully coherant and can speak up for herself. I can't imagine how those people in memory care are being treated. I plan to report Terra Bella to anyone who will listen. This was one of the most stressful experiences of all our lives. Please DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE.

Brookdale Chambrel was not willing to work with me at all on returning the full deposit or any portion of the deposit. The last director was superb and residents loved him; he sincerely cared about them. Corporate fired him. Residents wore black and wrote letters in protest. They had a terrific chef who prepared healthy meals and homemade baked goods; they fired him too. The current chef creates unhealthy meals, runs out of food and has fired so many servers that they have to serve buffet style. They hold meetings regarding the meals, and residents complain. Everything is written down and improvement is promised, but nothing has changed in the last month. Some residents are actually not eating and preparing sandwiches on their own. For the rent they charge, and the fact that these are elderly people, many with health issues, you would expect more value to be placed on serving quality food. Most are very upset and disappointed. Apologies are made, but no changes. I hope that I can write a more positive review soon!

Is that the " exceptional experience" they're so proud of? Otherwise I'm very pleased with the environment though. They accept dogs..not sure about cats, but I would ask if that were important to me, it's not unlikely they'd allow them in the apartments. I know one man that has lived there happily for over 15 years. They also have vendors come in almost every day. They have Taco and margaritas every Tuesday. There a pet rescue that comes in regularly to just allow some love for both the homeless pets and the residents. Overall, I'd recommend, especially if you have your own generator for emergencies.

We are so pleased with Berman Commons specifically because of the wonderful caring staff and their adapting to each residents personal situation. In addition, the activities are abundant and varied. The nursing staff goes to great concern to involve each of the residents into these activities according to their abilities and desire. The general staff and management is fully involved with the patients and their families- knowing their needs even though there are many residents in both independent and memory care living. The place is beautiful and well maintained and the food is very good. Thank you Berman Commons for the excellent atmosphere and care. I walk and do all the steps every morning and in good weather, I walk outside. I also use the elliptical machine in the fitness room a couple of times a week. The staff have been very kind and the administration has responded to specific concerns of mine and residents as a whole. My book club enjoys coming here monthly for our meetings.

But let me tell you, they will not even do the bare minimum that is part of the rental contract because they are always "under-staffed". The weekly cleanings, laundry and sheet changes do not happen regularly if at all! If and when they do clean, it's mediocre at best. The food is inedible. Several occasions they lost our family members medications and spent days trying to locate them while she was left without her diabetic monitors among other crucial medications. And you will be charged a ridiculous amount for a "care plan" and within weeks to months they will do another assessment without any communication and double the monthly care plan, this is how they make their money. Charging lower rent and ridiculous amounts for "care plans" that are bogus and unwarranted. AND, they won't even do the additional items they claim they need assistance with like showering and dressing. and God help your loved one if they push the "panic button" they are given to wear around their neck because they have an emergency, the staff is not coming to help at any type of pace that would be acceptable in a true emergency. I could go on forever about the unscrupulous practices happening in the place. The management team, accounting and care team will not respond to emails and will hide from you in their offices. Absolute incompetence. Stay away, so many other great options in this area of town.

He was a challenge, especially at night when he had his times mixed up. The staff was firm but caring, and they made certain my dad was safe. They made the most challenging and stressful part of my life much more manageable, because I was confident that they cared for my dad as much as I did. The facility is just like someone's home, a very clean home. Meals are home-cooked. The staff know each resident, and they are always, ALWAYS patient and kind. There are activities. Staff manage medications impeccably. The health, safety, and comfort of the residents is at top of mind of every staff member. It's impossible for me to sing their praises high enough. If you need peace of mind for your aging loved one, you cannot go wrong with Mayfield Oaks. They are your extended family.

Helen the owner has gone out of her way to work with the in's and outs of this terrible disease. I can't recommend this place enough. Mayfield Oaks has been a life saver for our family. After a long period trying to find the best option for our mom and having to move in and out of various properties, we realized she just could not adapt well to the larger communities. The resort-like atmosphere of those places was very appealing to us, as younger adults, but once you got past the flashiness, it was always missing was the love and care you get when living in a smaller place. The attention our mom receives now is better than even we could give her in our own home. She fell in love with Mayfield because it reminded her of her own house and she feels like she is living with family - and the staff has truly become our extended family. It's been the single greatest choice we have ever made.
