Breakfast menu - the item names made us giggle

I LOVE a diner and I love breakfast. I spent a weekend in Muscoda for a girls weekend and went to Vicki's for breakfast before heading back home to Milwaukee. You could tell there were a bunch of 'regulars' there which is always a good sign. I ordered the dumpster plate and we also got the special of the day to share with the table which was banana cream pie french toast. Everything was SO good and our server was fantastic.

Wow! We found this gem just off the main road. We had the special(check out the picture) so couldn't take advantage of the different biscuits and choices or the other sweet choices.

This is a great little hole in the wall type place. The burgers were delicious, the cozy sauce was a great flavor, the cheese curds were done to perfection. The staff was very friendly and you can tell the locals hang out there, always a good sign. I suggest stopping here for a buger or some breakfast. The price is right, food is good, what more can you ask for. The hours are limited, I believe it was 6 to 2:30 or 3, not a dinner location.

The Supper Club Standard: A Night of Steaks and Levity at Jones' Black Angus…read moreOn the sprawling Highway 18 in Prairie du Chien, Jones' Black Angus stands as a stalwart of the Wisconsin supper club tradition--a place where the atmosphere is as thick as the cuts of beef and the hospitality feels like an invitation into a neighbor's dining room. The experience is anchored by a service staff that possesses that rare blend of professional precision and genuine personality. Our waitress, Grace, was the heartbeat of the evening. She navigated the floor with a warmth that felt entirely unscripted, providing a level of care that culminated in a particularly touching gesture: when one member of our party stepped away during the presentation of the dessert tray, Grace made a point of returning later to ensure he received the full, choreographed "view" of the nightly sweets. The culinary journey begins at the salad bar, which is--to put it simply--impeccable. In an era where many establishments have retired this particular ritual, Jones' maintains it with a freshness and variety that honors the tradition. However, the evening's primary entertainment came in the form of a recurring linguistic gag. When the soup of the day arrived--a dish that was, by all sensory accounts, a classic gumbo--Grace insisted with a wink that it was "jambalaya." The ensuing debate became the running joke of the night, a bit of shared levity that only a truly great server can cultivate. But the kitchen is not just about the sides and the stories. The filet was impeccable--perfectly seasoned, expertly seared, and possessing that melt-in-the-mouth quality that justifies the Black Angus name. My sincere compliments to the chef for a masterclass in steakhouse fundamentals. "A great steakhouse is about more than just the meat; it's about the memory of the meal." -- Unknown Jones' Black Angus is a reminder of why the supper club remains a beloved institution. Between the "jambalaya" jests, the meticulously curated salad bar, and a filet that commands respect, it is a destination that delivers both a full heart and a full plate. The stainless steel diner has been well cared for and updated enough to make it more comfortable for staff and customers. There are some tables out front and two different seating areas inside (it's bigger than it looks). All the cooking is done behind the counter, where you can see it all happening. It can be a bit noisy as the metal spatulas hit the grill, but you can still have a reasonable conversation. It's a busy place, and the servers are efficient, with a no nonsense approach to taking your orders. The menu is large, with lots of traditional favorites (no avocado toast here). There were two pages of breakfast items, and it was a tough decision. We ordered a number of different items: corned beef hash, pancakes, and potato pancakes with eggs and sausage. It did not take very long to get our food. Very good portions, everything was plenty hot, and all flavorful. Everyone was happy with their choices. The corned beef hash was not the kind you get from a can. It was large, fresh pieces. The pork sausages were plump and well seasoned. The poached eggs were perfect. My only complaint: I ordered my potato pancakes extra crispy, but they didn't seem "extra" to me (extra extra crispy next time). The regular pancakes were good, but not fluffy enough to be "excellent". A very nice place for breakfast, and somewhere we would return to.

I'm not a snob so I can do a nice place, a dive and anything in between which was how the weekend went. The bar was pretty busy for a Saturday night and I was going to do a fresh patty burger but pizza after pizza was going out the front door so I might rethink my burger. The place is your typical Wi small town bar and not a dive but old looking that is CASH ONLY with a full bar and restaurant. The menu is decent for a bar and they take the food seriously with fresh beef burgers and real pizzas. I had a couple beers and gin tonics which were ok and not top shelf. The place is pretty loud and it was hard having a conversation but it was the place to be. We ordered the 16'' Soprano pizza with sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, fresh mushrooms, onions, green peppers, green olives and black olives. First off they don't skimp on the toppings because they were plentiful and the pizza was really good with a nice saltyness from the green olives that worked so well. I doubt that they make the crust and I could be wrong but it very good because it was not thick or cracker thin but a nice in between that was like a fresh chewy crust from good fresh baked bread. It was weird to bump into the owner of the bar that we usually go to for drinks and pizza like we were cheating on him but it was all good but unexpected. Overall the pizza is good, the drinks are ok and the prices are very reasonable for a casual dinner and drinks and I see why they were packed and the lady's working the bar did an outstanding job keeping up with all the people.
