we're locals and I had a really bad experience here. I brought my son's truck in because the tire pressure light kept coming on. They told me they found a nail in the tire but that it "didn't go through" and claimed nothing was actually wrong with the tire. That alone didn't make much sense to me, so I tried asking a few questions just to understand what was going on. Instead of explaining it, the staff were extremely rude and dismissive. Every time I asked something simple like why the tire would be losing pressure if the nail didn't go through, they acted annoyed and made me feel like I was stupid for even asking. As a customer, I think it's completely reasonable to want a clear explanation about something involving your vehicle's safety especially my sons. Customer service matters just as much as the repair itself, and the way I was treated was honestly disrespectful. I left feeling frustrated and uncomfortable. I will definitely not be coming back here and would not recommend this place to anyone who expects to be treated with basic respect. read more

Brought four new tires into his shop to have changed and balanced . Mechanic somehow left the wheel weight inside the tire and it made clicking noises for months before we realized it wasn't the brakes , it wasn't the u-joints after replacing both. Had several other mechanics look at the truck to figure out the noise and no one could determine where it was coming from . After having a nail go into the tire and taking it up to have a patch put inside the Tire Guy found a half gram Tire weight inside the tire . Also asked to have the transmission fluid changed and Victor not only didn't change it but put in a friction treatment used in the rear ends. The transmission fluid change was to stop a shudder . The friction treatment was meant for a rear end differential not a transmission . Ended up having to spend a lot more money to have the transmission fixed after his screw up. I would definitely not recommend this business, even to my enemies . read more

Don't expect a warm hello when you come in, but you will be glad you did. Some shops are very welcoming and some not quite. That I found seems to be the trend in the Keys at auto repair facilities which I find surprising. For the 1st time ever in the Keys I needed something looked at and the 4 places I went into had a did not matter if you were there or not. This is very different from my shop in Ft. Lauderdale . They welcome new customers like old friends. Glad you are there. My shop is always slammed, yet they always take time to show their appreciation for the business. Hey, that's just my shop and not everyone is that way. So don't expect a welcome how ya doing today went you walk in. The other 3 I went to, I had to make sure they were alive. Anyways, I am glad I did not let personality stop me from going back to Vics. They did a great job for me on my Kia today ( 12/14/2023 ). I thought I had an actual issue but it turned out nothing. They could have said many things but they did not. I was at their mercy as I did not think I should drive it back to Ft. Lauderdale and take to my shop. In the end it was minor and they were very fair. Also, they were not sure if they could get to it when I brought it in and I needed to get back to Ft. Lauderdale. Not only did they get it back in the same day, but earlier then stated. If nothing else, go to Vic's for the service, maybe the welcome committee was away. I am new to the area and am documenting my exposure to Vic's Auto Tech to the best of my ability. called on 11/13/23 and confirmed that Vic's does oil changes. (I drove by, and the business was so crowded that I became uncertain.) I found out that they do, and the respondent indicated that I should make an appointment because they were busy. I made an appointment for 9 am on 11/14/23 and included an oil change and tire rotation. I show up at 9 am to what I would term a chaotic scene. The individual in front of me had an oil change, but the shop allegedly installed 5W-30 instead of 5W-20. The viscosity mistake (assuming true) is IMHO huge and unforgiveable. To the organization's credit, they were going to handle it, though. So, ok....I assessed this issue as a bad mistake. In the back of mind, I was assessing competency. So there was a walk-in that arrived before me (appointments seem to be meaningless IMHO). Another Vic's employee on the phone told the other individuals that the walk-in needed to be handled before the individual with the appointment (me). And obviously, the mistake they made with the oil (just wow) had to be fixed. I simply stated that I made an appointment because I had time constraints (fact..I work virtually via Zoom). I told the individual (who I would describe as a younger Hispanic lady with an accent) that if I could not be served in a timely manner, I would have to leave. She handed me back my key. Seriously. Thanks for my welcome to the Keys. I have been around the block more than once. You never get a second chance to make a good first impression. Vic's Auto Tech failed the first simple test. I went elsewhere later and had the service handled in one hour. Honestly, I am just shocked at this level of service. I will be cross-posting to all review sites. read more

Giving my best woman review! I wouldn't trust anyone else with my vehicle than Vic's! I recently needed new brakes. Sadly I ran mine until I heard metal scraping, very dangerous. It's always a worry that an auto shop is going to try and sell you more than you need but not Vic's!!! They are extremely busy but we're able to make me an appointment fast. I took my vehicle in at 9am and they had me new brakes and rotors by 3pm same day!!! And at a competitive price. And I had a few other questions about my vehicle that Billy was able to answer without making me feel dumb. I was there today because of a dead battery for a VW GTI. My neighbor has been recommending Vic's for years and I have to say she was right and coincidentally I just read a review posted by my other neighbor who also had only good things to say. When I called Vic's this morning they had said over the phone that I would have to wait at least two hours but I was out of there in 45 minutes despite the constant flow of customers in and out. Other times I've had battery issues with this car, I've had to go to a VW dealer because no one has the battery. Never in my wildest dreams did I think they would have the battery in stock. Checked the price of the battery online after I left and to my huge surprise, they were extremely reasonable in their pricing. Highly recommend Vic's. read more

To set the scene: I live out-of-state, and was driving a rented car from Key West back to Miami. Right there, I'm out of my element. So when the Ford Mustang began flashing a warning sign about low tire pressure, I thought I was screwed in the middle of the Keys. When I saw Vic's place, I immediately thought it was an oasis -- until I pulled up and Vic told me the shop was closed on Saturdays and that he was just working on his own cars that day in the garage. Sensing that I felt S.O.L., Vic told me to pull the car around where he jacked up the car, took off the problem wheel, looked and tested for leaks (of which there weren't any), then filled all 4 tires and said it was likely a sensor issue with the vehicle and assured me id make it to Miami without a problem, which is what happened. I moved to the area about a year and a half ago. My mini-Cooper was having issues starting. It was starting only with a jump and pulling on the cables. I walked to one auto repair place nearby that was very unfriendly and said to bring the car in- after I explained it wouldn't start so I can't drive it over. I called another place that transferred me to a tow driver who said he would come get the car and tow it to the shop but then later said the shop doesn't work on Coopers The tow driver referred me to a place that works on foreign cars but the guy there said he hadn't worked on Coopers in the last couple years and was busy- but to call back in about a week and a half - if I didn't get it resolved. I called Vic's and he said he was willing to work on it - I told him I would have it towed over (I used a different tow service). Within a few hours, I got a call that the car was ready for pick up. A new battery and terminals were put in. Issue resolved! Awesome, friendly, and quick service!! Highly recommend! I appreciate the willingness of Vic's to check out the problem and am grateful for the quality service provided that got my car trouble fixed- effectively and efficiently. read more

I found this place on yelp and decided to bring my car in so they check the battery that I felt was starting to give out on me. My ac also hadn't been working since I moved to the keys in Feb. I was able to get an appointment very quickly with Covid-19 in the air. They were pretty honest and even helped me get home while all that was being done! Great guys! I knew my ac was going to cost me since I had a similar issue in Jax in 2018. However, I feel really good about Vic's taking care of it this time. read more

BEWARE!!! Recently had to work in the Keys. Upon getting there my battery died due to my alternator not charging. So I speak to Vic and he agrees to charge battery and check it out. Next day Im told car won't start and I need a starter first. I leave work to go there I'm told "wiring for starter is bad". I'm billed $54 for charging the battery and his diagnosis. At that point I figure he's not familiar with car. Or this is the a rip off shop. I decide to have car towed 90 miles to my regular shop in Hollywood. Upon getting there the tow truck guy (friend of Vic) tells my mechanic that I'm an a$$hole and I need a starter at least. My mechanic connects battery and surprise the car starts on the first try. The tow truck driver walks away mumbling to himself. My mechanic checks starter and concludes its fine. Alternator is replaced by my mechanic all good. Except... When I leave with my car Vic forgot, or on purpose, didn't anchor battery after he charged it. So the first turn I make battery slides down into cooling fans and destroys wiring! $250 additional repair. My mechanic is embarrassed that Vic is such an amateur, and actually blames himself for not checking that when car was delivered... You would think Vic could have gone through the trouble of screwing one bolt down, but apparently that's an extra charge I guess. As far as customer service goes Vic seems confrontational and shady. When I questioned the starter being bad, it was as if I was calling him a liar. Part of owning and operating a auto shop is being able to explain issues to customers without turning into a pissed off redneck. My experience tells me he is operating in the Keys and when out of towers have car trouble he sees it as a opportunity to bang them up for unnecessary repairs. The shop is decorated like a bad Happy Days episode, and his secretary couldn't quote what the prices were for the starter and alternator when she called to tell me I need both at least to get started. His diagnosis of the bad starter was either being incompetent or trying to pump up the overall bill. I'd say it was a bit of both. I liken this experience to the garage in U Turn where Billy Bob Thorton plays the crooked small town garage owner. read more

Avoid this place. I am a Tavernier local, and stopped by Vic's with a low tire-pressure warning. Post-Hurricane Wilma, the roads are strewn with tire-puncturing debris. I pulled up in front and asked a tech if I could get my tire filled. The tech said "Sure, which tire?", very nice and professional guy. But during the one minute it took for him to fill my tire with air, Vic appears next to my car. Vic begins yelling, quite angrily: "Did you pull a man off a job to get air in your tire?! Did you go through the office?!" and so on. He keeps shouting as he stalks off back to the garage. Air fills are usually a courtesy at auto shops. I gave the helpful mechanic $20, hoping he would not get reamed by the a**hole who owns that place. read more

Extremely unprofessional ! We stopped here to get our flat tire looked at and the woman at the desk was so rude , when I asked if someone can take look at my tire she said I don't have time for that come back in 3 hours. Since we were vacationing in the Keys and thought there was no other place to go in 20 miles either direction we went back after 3 hours. She than told us to wait in the car and someone would help us. Not the case , after 45 mins nothing. When I was driving out of there I received dirt looks from the mechanics who were just standing around smoking and talking and not working on any cars! On my trip down this last weekend I lost my transmission . The ford dealership in my home town has been trying o fix it for over a year each time they can't find anything wrong with it it's fine . So after picking it up from them the week before . I headed to the keys , 30 miles north of key largo I found myself stuck with only 3rd gear . Total transmission failure !! Vic's ordered a new transmission from ford and had it installed and back on the road in two days . Very professional . I would highly recommend them for all your needs ! read more

My friend and I had traveled hundreds of miles on motorcycles thinking a trip through the Key might be nice. One of the mc's started to hesitate and stall but we kept riding hopes we might find a local repair shop that might help us if the fix wasn't a simple one. We pulled into Vic's Auto Tec with the comfort of thinking we'd get some help if needed. Instead, after a few minutes we were asked to leave the premises. Not really sure what we did wrong to be asked to leave but if this is the kind of service a broken down traveler receives I think I would spend my hard earned money with somebody with a little more compassion. Took car to Vics, said he couldn't handle car that day, but pulled it in and diagnostic to make sure I wouldn't get stuck. found problem, ordered part from Miami, had it next day. Called when it came in, dropped car, and called me shortly after when repair done..Checked pricing for service, he was right on the money, actually on the low end of estimates.., great service, very professional, does a great job...Highly recommend..P.S. They told me what it would cost to fix my auto problem, which was outrageous about a grand for a rather small issue... I took my car down the road a few more miles to another auto repair shop and saved nearly $500 dollars. Also, every person I dealt with at Vic's was extremely rude and offputting.
