Picked up a nail on my way to Key Largo and stopped at this local garage for a quick plug of the tire. Ultimately the job was done satisfactory and given the Keys pricing it was reasonable. My biggest problem was the customer service. The mechanic (whose first language was not English) had problems locating the proper jack fitting for my Tesla. Then he claimed that the tire could not be repaired. It was a simple plug fix but he wanted to either patch or replace the tire. It was only resolved when a manager became involved. Very nice lady manning the front desk but again seemed confused. Might be a one off but I probably would not recommend if other options are available. read more

I work local in Key Largo. Went over there for a nail on my tire. They state that they was so busy and can't take my little business. That I have to wait 4 hours just to have a tire plug. I state in a good manner that's was the reason why that business is being down hill over the time. They are loosing the locals trust. When I went to my car the manager came over and knock on my window. At that point I think he was trying to make the right thing and take care of the nail. Instead of that when I put the window down he yelled at me this exact words... "Be sure don't come here in the future for your cars problems.." Way to go Wheaton's. Cudos to Wheaton's! MLK Day morning and I expected Wheaton's to be slammed. Wouldn't you know, I picked up what looked like a trip screw in my Rubicon's Toyo AT2 35" tire. I wasn't losing air, but wasn't about to pull it at home and get a flat in my driveway. So I was 3rd in line at Wheaton's and the service writer remembered me! As he also did tires, he came out and said "Let's pull it." He put liquid soap on the spot and pulled. The screw was less than 1/2 inch long and had not penetrated! Yay! Best possible scenario. What a treasure Key Largo has with this company. They bailed us out 2x while on vacation here. Once with AC, today with a flat tire on our rental car from AVIS. Avis in key largo wouldn't help us at all. AVIS NEEDS TO TRAIN BETTER. Avis roadside service kept hanging up while using their robot menus. Your office staff is amazing and very professional, polite and helpful. You should be proud of them. Such a pleasure to deal with both of them. I didn't call before coming in or have a apt., yet she took me in right away. Seeing how I was driving on a temporary donut spare, that can be dangerous at our local speeds. I was expecting to wait my turn even if it took all day. Your tire tech really hustles, he was taking care of multiple vehicles and finished mine way before I expected. Everyone that works for you are pleasant and works really hard. I hate to have to write a bad review because the staff was nice and scheduling was easy and I wish I could support a local business ... but unfortunately I got a routine oil change done in May and the filter was not screwed on all the way and I had a major oil leak. Fortunately I caught it in time and was able to tighten the filter and add oil. My car has ran fine with no oil leaks since. Obviously if I didn't catch it it would have ruined my car :( I need to get my brakes done soon and don't know any place here that is reliable! read more

The front desk is so unprofessional . I walked in asked them for book appointment for another day but the lady told me she can take the car for service immediately. I gave my keys and went in waiting room and I set there for 4 hours to waited to finish my car service , after my complaint another man told me they need another 30 min . They not even started I been waited for 4 hours they don't care I ask them to book appointment for another day not to set and wait for hours. Yesterday I had another my final visit . I brought my car 8 am I confirmed all my details what they need to fix and at 5pm my car was not ready because of poor convenience. They need real management and good training to do service . Was very disappointed in their so-called professional opinion, telling me at one visit that things needed to be fixed before they could continue on with the main objective. Once those things were fixed, they claimed the objective still could not be completed yet trying to just take more and more money from me, meanwhile other mechanics were able to complete the objective with massive concerns in regards to why they continuously postponed the objective. This place is a joke, and will never receive my business again and I hope to anyone who has similar problems with this looks elsewhere as well. read more

My husband went to balance and rotate tires on our Chevy Silverado..they didn't seem to know what "balance" meant so my husband said to rotate only...when he got home they didn't check the tire pressure so he had to do that himself... read more

Sorry, but I have to update this review. I would not recommend the tire shop at Wheaton's. As far as we can tell they did a good job changing the oil on our Motorhome's engine and generator, but they totally failed on the tire repair. We had been experiencing a persistent drop in pressure on one of our tires for a few weeks. It started off a slow leak, but worsened until we were losing 70-80 lbs of pressure overnight. We asked them to inspect and fix the problem. When we picked up our RV, they said they couldn't find a leak and suggested we not use the sensor on our tire pressure monitoring system. So, we left the sensor off of the suspect tire (passenger side outer tire). What they didn't tell us is that they forced off the sensor on the inner tire - although we told them this required a special tool which we left on the dash. After forcing it off they stuck it back on so it appeared to be OK. As we were driving down the interstate, the TPMS quit monitoring the inner tire. When we stopped to check, the sensor was gone. So, we ended up paying $25 for the labor and the replacement sensor will cost us $50. We are not certain that they even leak tested the tire. It had a chalk-marked "X" on the outer tire which another tire store put on it when they added air. They couldn't remove and inspect it because they don't repair big tires. When we checked the air that night after it was supposedly inspected by Wheaton's, the chalk mark was still on the tire. Not likely to be there had it been submerged in a dunk tank. We then drove on to Jacksonville and the problem tire was losing pressure even faster - 85 lbs overnight. We took it to Davis Tire Center in Jacksonville based on excellent Yelp reviews and they specialize in big tires. They removed the fire and inspected it in the dunk tank, but found no leaks. The valve stem extender was loose, which they tightened. They called and we came to pick up our RV and paid $34 for the labor. When we checked the pressure, it had already dropped 10 lb since they put it back on!! The technician was surprised, so he took it off again, rechecked for leaked and found none on the fire or the valve stem extender. However, he knew we had a problem so he took the tire off the rim to inspect inside - and discovered the valve stem had a tear on it in the inside. After looking it over, it appeared to be a tie mounting error - when we bought our new tires less than a year ago, they either didn't replace the valve stem as is protocol, or they overtightened it when mounting the new tire. There were also some beads between the tire and rim, indicating the balancing beads had opened before the tire was mounted. When they finished, we noticed the chalked "X" had washed off in the tank. Altogether these guys spent two ours actually fixing our problem and didn't charge us anything extra, because they didn't want to send us on our way with a tire pressure leak. This is what I expect from a reputable company - thorough, quality service and genuine concern for the customer's safety. read more

Going to the mainland from Key West my engine stopped running and I pulled into a circle k. Wheatons towed my vehicle to there shop. The next day they told me my engine seized and it would cost $6500. For a used engine replacement. I knew they were lying. Rented a car trailer went up to key largo and towed my vehicle to pit stop in key west. I am picking up my vehicle now after having a fuel injector plug and coil pack replaced for $600.00. Wheatons are thieves that were looking forward to stealing my vehicle. Don't trust these bastards. read more

I felt completely ripped off here. I was quoted one price but when time came for the bill they had added $ claiming my car took a special filter. This has never been mentioned before and I've driven over 43K in this vehicle with many oil changes prior. The way they handled it was very poor. I also heard a sermon on how they make no money on oil changes prior to start if service and then within a few minutes I'm being told my tire has a screw in it and it will cost $20 to patch it. They'd claimed that the interior sensors were pointing this fact and flashing lights yet that's not how my car notifies me of low pressure plus I had been running errands all day and I would have noticed that. They got very antagonistic when I tried to speak to these things so I just paid and left and will deal with this through my credit card company. They did an oil change, rotated tires, and patched an apparent puncture. So the services were performed. If this was it and they had charged me what they quoted I would provide probably 3-4 stars - not more simply because they charge way more than if I had driven the 45 minutes to Homestead. However, quoting one thing and then charging another without notice, arguing about the cost of living in the Keys and mysteriously finding a way to milk me for more money through a 'special' filter and an unlikely puncture doesn't sit well with me. read more

My car was towed by Wheaton's after having a wreck near Key Largo on a Monday evening. After returning home, as I was on vacation there, I immediately began looking for a repair shop that could fix both body damage and mechanical damage. Wheaton's has already told me they were not set up to fix either one. Why the FHP contracts with them for wrecks, I just don't understand. At any rate, my car is there and my troubles were just beginning. On Wednesday late afternoon, I told them I needed to move it to Key Largo Collision Center. They said they were too busy that day but assured me it would me done on Thursday. I asked Jay, numerous times if I needed to sign off on moving it, written form? Verbal form? I told him the repair shop told me I needed to sign off on it, he said again, no it's all taken care of. Fast forward to Thursday at 4:40pm. After not hearing from anyone I called the repair shop only to find out my car was never sent to them. I called wheatons to ask why, Jay gave me several lame excuses and assured me it would be done on Friday morning. I wasn't happy with that so I called another towing service to move my car for me. Only to find out Wheatons does not allow any other Towing companies on their property. Isn't that convenient?? Meanwhile I'm paying storage fees daily to wheatons!! (Which they were supposed to remove for two days but neglected to do so) Now it's Friday morning and my car is still at this crooked tow yard, And the repair shop calls me up to tell he that I have to sign off to release my car via email!!! Are you kidding me?? We are now almost 48 hours into me first telling them to move my car and now they are asking for a release statement. I called to give jay a piece of my mind and he told me that I now must pay cash in person to get my car out of their yard, $609 for a tow and 4 nights storage!!! And he knew I was several hours away from the tow yard too!! I had to call the sheriff to get my car away from them. My insurance company is now reviewing their bill as they say it seems their price is highly inflated. My next move is to contact FHP to let them know how poorly they treat clients when they force you to use this towing service. read more

Unblelievable!! I have been coming here for a year with my van even though I have been warned time and time again to stay away from here. It's right down the street from me here in key largo so it's very convenient. Every time I have brought my van in it's been 4x the usual amount to fix it. But here is the reason that I will never ever be back. I brought my van there a few months back and they had a looked at it and said that the engine mounts needed to be fixed. They kept calling me and telling me that they really need to be fixed. After going to get a second opinion from a different shop, turns out the engine mounts are fine its was actually the timing belt and idle pulley that was making a grinding sound. The other shop fix the timing belt and idle pulley and it's running like new again and said engine mounts are fine. Something seemed off the way they kept calling and trying to sell me on the engine mounts of $700. Just seemed shady. Here is where things get really interesting. That is not even the reason that I will never do business with them which should be enough but like i said it's been convenient. HERE IS THE REAL REASON I WONT BE BACK. I came in there to get my van looked at for a 2nd time from them after they are telling me it's the idler pulley is why it's running high RPM. They charge me for diagnostic to test it. They said because I put a new battery in it that it should be ok after a week, after the computer resets. They said if it doesnt fix in a week than it's the idle pulley. I bring it back in a week later and come in the office to tell then it's still reving high, they want to charge me to do another diagnotsic. I told them you just charged me the other day for diagnotsic and you did nothing to fix it now you gunna charge me again to do same diagnotsic test in the same faulty part. The guy looks at me and says, I don't even know why you come here. I said excuse me?! He said yeah your the one that put a bad review on our ratings. I said no I'm not you are thinking of someone else. He said no it was you and tried to pull up the comment and yep wrong guy Jack ass!!! So I said nope that not me and I said what the hell? He says I'm not going to be cussed at. I said this is how you treat your customers I been coming here for over a year all the time with my van. I went outside where mr.wheaton was sitting and asked him what is going on with the guy inside at the cash register, he says did you make a bad rating? I said no I have not but you bet I will by the end of today. Well here it is about a month later. Granted I did show up in my BMW 650i that you will never ever touch on your life!! Im a performer here in the keys I have a microphone every night I speak to hundreds of people at my shows. Nice move Wheatons. Your thinking of going here run!! Spend the extra money and go to Miami. Passing thru on vacation and truck broke down. I called wheatons and they sent a tow truck within minutes. Nothing but a phone call, handshake, two days later truck was fixed. Couldnt be happier with their customer service, character, and attitude to help a complete stranger. Needed both front calipers on an f250 diesel. Cost a couple bucks more than it would have at home but hey, we were in the keys and expected to pay a little more. Overall very satisfied and happy. Great service experience. This happened on a saturday when everyone else was closed. We highly recommend them to other vacationers who need vehicle service in the keys. read more

Yikes almost $45 for an oil change?! Well seeing how I was on vacation and only shop around didn't have much of choice. Next time I'll wait till I'm on main land, or change it before I leave.. Staff was very friendly and completed my oil change in a quickly fashion. She now feels well drives a little rough so will have regular shop look at when I'm back home to be sure. My husband and I were on vacation in Key Largo the week of 7/13 - 7/23. Our truck broke down not far from the shop towards the end of our trip. Joseph and Mark (the owner) could not have been nicer. After being loyal customer of this business for almost 20 years...I have noticed that sadly, it is no longer a place I want to trust my car or recommended to my friends. The owner, Mark Wheaton , has changed this once respected auto shop, into a the typical penny penching operation. The last straw came when I brought my 2004 Envoy in yesterday to have its read most (Tailgate ) window fixed, which was broke in the full down position. After having working service manager if he would like to go out to the car to see what I was talking about...he assured me he understood the problem and could have it fixed next day . The next day..I get a call from Wheatons saying the window was working OK now..and to please come pick up my car... I then asked him what the bill was and the response was "nothing...their was nothing wring with window. I asked him if he tried the key switch below the window...as I could hear motor turning.,,,but window was not engaging. He said he did ..and window was working . Amazed and confused...I rode my bike some 5 miles to find window still not working. Worse...the owner , was not at all apologetic about it...and told me it was my fault for not specifying the correct terminology. ..ie "tailgate window"...instead of "rear most window " or "back window". He told me that he would now not be able to get to it for 3 to 4 days. I told him in no uncertain terms that this was not my fault...and that his service manager has screwed this up with his poor communications and being to lazy to actually come out to car with me to verify that he understood which window. ..and how many windows could it have been to try ? 5 ? did he bother to notice the one that was open ? He then told me to take it to another garage...that he had all the work he needed...and didnt need any more small jobs like this ! Done with Wheatons. They dont deserve my business. They have one by one fired all their good service managers to the point where they cant get good people to work there any more ! read more

I had to drive up to Fort Lauderdale for a family event the next day, so they went the extra mile to get the part early so my car was ready in time for me to make the event. read more

I currently have two vehicles I take here for services. The front desk staff are polite, kind and efficient. I usually wait and they keep me informed of the status of my car. Recently I had scheduled an appointment but was unable to keep it so I called to reschedule. This way if someone had an emergency Wheatons could accommodate them. They checked over to access any issues beyond the normal service as I requested. I was contacted with those issues to approve repairs.
