Body & Soul Transformations - 25 pounds lost in 6 weeks

Full disclosure, I joined this group of studios. I tried them last year and found it too pricy…read more But then as I went around to other places in town, I just kept thinking about this workout format and the way I felt after doing some of the workouts. I did a trial run earlier this summer, and just bit the bullet and joined after that. As a result, Ive been to this studio a number of times recently, I found tis location to be perfect some days. Its much smaller than the Tonawanda location, which is good and bad. Good because there are fewer people in each class, bad because its often full for each class. Ive never been here with more than one instructor, and at Tonawanda's there is almost always 2, if not three but I imagine that has to do with size of class. The format is this - They create 6 workouts (Mon-Sat) which they then do for 4 weeks. Each workout is designed to hit different areas of the body, and some days have more weight and less cardio than others, they mix it up. Each class starts with the same tape to get everyone stretched out and ready for the next 50 min. Then there is a short cardio burst to get the blood flowing, and a longer section with some burpees or squats or whatever they think of. Then you pay attention while the instructor shows you what each exercise of the day is. By week four those demos don't take quite as long, but they still cover them all each day, and show you the various different levels for each exercise. Well trained group of instructors. Then the class starts, usually that portion is between 22-25 min. as you go from exercise to exercise. There may be some sort of 3 min end exercise, they often involve squats Ive found. Then the same cool down tape plays and everyone does that. Class ends as the instructor brings everyone into the middle for a "tip of the day". Sometimes those are super interesting, other times they are so-so. I don't think those are spelled out from corporate, I think they make them up themselves, which could explain why some are better than others. They have improved their website experience by joining mindbody, so that's nice. There is another location coming in Cheektowaga this fall. I look forward to checking that out too. This place is the home of the "6 weeks 20 lbs" challenge, and you'll have challengers in most classes. I cannot stress enough how much support these people get from the instructors and members in their goals. Most hit the goals if they show up to class and follow the diet plan. If you want to come try a class, PM me and Ill see if I can help make that happen.

They have the infamous 6 week 20 lb challenge where you get your money back if you succeed, just make sure you read the small print before you join so you know what you need to do to get your money back. But honestly, even if you don't. I feel like these workouts are worth it!

After a few months of searching and trials that went no where, I found Burn Boot Camp. I was hesitant because I didn't know what to expect and I was really looking for a place that was like the gym I went to previously. When I first walked in, the receptionist, Heather, greeted me right away with a smile, she made me feel welcome. She introduced me to all the trainers and took me on a brief tour. I really felt like I was about to become a part of something special and I wasn't just going to be a number. One of the trainers, Travis, right away shook my hand and asked what my experience was and if I had any injuries. I had just come back from a shoulder injury and he knew exactly how to provide proper modifications and even walked me through movements before my first class. As class progressed he CONSTANTLY motivated all of us, and he would check in with me to see how my shoulder was doing. After the first class I signed up. Everyone of the trainers treats you like you are a person with Individual goals. Lauren, Claire, Travis and Kim will work with you and keep you going the entire class. They really take the time to get to know each person. By my first week all the trainers knew my name, about my shoulder injury and knew exactly what I needed. The other members are great! Everyone gets to know your name and we all push each other through some pretty intense workouts . If you are looking to become a member of a gym that will push you to your limits and not just a number to fill a sales quota, do not hesitate and give Burn a try. You won't regret it!

I joined 9 months ago and really dedicated myself. I purchased an unlimited membership and made a…read moregoal of going to 5 classes a week. This was fairly easy to accomplish, especially since they had early morning classes. They recently changed the morning instructors and schedule which threw my schedule off. It is challenging when the first class of the morning many mornings starts late. It wasn't always like that, but has been lately. My honest feedback is that most of the instructors are very good, they really help you get to your next level. There have been classes where instead of instructing the instructor just keeps repeating her direction rather than actually assisting the person who isn't doing the move correctly. But based on the glances from the long time attendees this is just to be expected sometimes. The classes are good, but don't try to go to some of the instructors if you are newer to Pilates. The other challenge is that they 12 reformers into a small space. That means there are times when class time is spent rearranging the room. Most other studios only have 6-8 reformers per room. There is a room for private lessons, but that isn't frequently used from my perspective (I could be wrong) which would make the space more functional if used to expand the class studio. The other thing is that the way the studio is laid out if you are on one of the reformers towards the entrance of the studio throughout the year at various times you will be blinded by the sun. Something a simple solar shade on the door would fix, but every time I suggested it I was told not to hold my breath for that. All in all, despite the shortcomings, I continued to go until I moved and started working out of the area because I really liked the classes. They offered a large number of early classes, and the unlimited membership price was reasonable, as long as I made it to 20 classes a month, which most of the time I did. If they were to open another studio in that was convenient to my new location I would consider joing it again.
