We drove from Kansas City to San Diego and back and stayed in 12 different hotels, so we're comparing them all. We stayed one nights for $101.03 per night, which was an above average price for the trip. SHE: It was freaking adorable. Terribly Charming, as is the whole town of Victor that we saw. Charming little town. Kind of a suburb of Cripple Creek. If you get tired of gambling, you go to Victor and gamble some more. We didn't have a chance to explore, but we did see the troll. HE: The troll was amazing. I loved her, and I love that she's kind of hidden. You have to go look for her. SHE: So, it's a historic Hotel from the gold mining days. It was probably elegant in its day. HE: I wouldn't call it elegant now, but it is charming. SHE: Vintage. Which meant the rooms were old AF. The room was small, but recently updated. It had a magic mirror. I'd never seen that before. You could tap on the big mirror over the sink, and it would change like the lighting and stuff, which I've seen before, but I hadn't seen it as a touch screen. It felt very out of place in this vintage hotel, even though they put vintage decorative frame around it, but I didn't care. HE: It also had a new ceiling fan light fixture, but we turned it on and the fan was on high speed, and I could not figure out how to change it or turn the fan off, so I just turned the light off and used the bedroom lamps instead. I probably could have fiddled with it more and figured it out, but it was late. SHE: We were tired. HE: I pushed a lot of buttons and it was blowing fan air all over the room. That's probably my biggest complaint. SHE: Well, no. My biggest complaint is that it's very noisy. You can hear people outside on the street. You could hear guests in other rooms. You could hear the television going in another room. You could hear the plumbing. Of all the rooms we stayed in, this was the noisiest simply because there was no soundproofing. SHE: Yeah, because it's old. Luckily, it's a quiet little town. Not much nightlife. HE: It wasn't run down. SHE: No, not at all. Vintage elevator. It looks vintage, but apparently it was recently put in. HE: They had a restaurant in the lobby that was open surprisingly late. SHE: It was open at least until 10, which is late for that tiny town. There was no front desk. HE: Yeah, we communicated solely through texting. But there was a lady at the restaurant that I think could have helped us if we had any real issues. But we didn't have any issues with the check-in. It gives a code to get in and all it works just fine. SHE: There was an extra blanket, and there was a cool bench thing at the foot the bed. There's no chairs. There's no room for chairs. All we had was to sit on was the bed, And this little bench at the end of the bed where we put our bags HE: There was a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. Also a hair dryer, but we didn't use it. read more

Where to start? First the host was full of annoying texts, "what time will you be there?" And "tell us when you get there." Okay mom with my curfew. NO ONE is at the desk, so it shouldn't matter to these people when I get here. Send the codes and mind your own business. Only two of three windows had any shades. The bathroom is tiny (I don't care- it IS an old hotel) BUT when the window shade is missing, I couldn't change my clothes or get in and out of the bathroom without people outside potentially being able to stare right on it. Excuse me for wanting to feel secure with my privacy... For context the building across the street has occupied rooms with windows with a direct view into this room. Forget sleeping even a minute after sunrise.... But hey- who wants to sleep or rest on a weekend getaway. TV took a a feat of mechanical engineering to get it work. Ridiculous. The shower head had a crack in it, which sprayed water all over the bathroom and made a reasonable shower unattainable. *sigh* There were potential good points, I like the location, but I also like Victor, I'll pay a little more and stay at the Ghost Lounge again. Now THAT was an amazing stay. Ummmm parking? On the street and not too far. It's historic and some of it is cute. The elevator was super adorable. Yeah, truthfully, I doubt I'll ever step foot in this place again. If the hosts are going to be supremely irritating, they should have a place worth visiting that shows they ACTUALLY care about the guest experience and has ANY indication of some kind of customer service. read more

My husband and I showed up, hoping for a cute and quaint hotel. We walk in the front doors and it is literally dead. Not one person is in the hotel to greet you. You have to call a phone number to let them know you're at the hotel. The woman answering the phone had no clue whether our room was even ready. The property was filthy and rundown... Yes, we know this is an historic building. The pictures and advertisements for their hotel are 100% deceitful. I would never recommend this hotel. In addition, do not plan on eating at the hotel as we don't believe the restaurant actually is up and running. read more

A disappointing stay this time at 'The Victor Hotel'. In town for The SteamPunk Soirée. The room was subpar on cleanliness with expired food left in the refrigerator, dirty towels in the bathroom, and we were given a half of roll of toilet paper that did not last our two night stay. We stayed in #408 This room was noisy. The first night the floorboards vibrated . (Like a furnace was nearby.) Around midnight a loud clanging started in the front corner of the room as if some was taking a spoon to the floor lamp. That happened a few times throughout the night. Along with what sounded like water dripping from the ceiling on to the floor. That seemed to be the consistent noise throughout our stay. I would recommend earplugs for staying in room 408 We went to The side Door restaurant in the hotel. We waited 25 minutes after being seated to have the bartender tell us their kitchen was closed. read more

We spent a week at this uniquely historic hotel, while visiting my sister in cripple creek. It looks like a ghost town, (but a friendly one) as it used to have between 12k-18k people at its gold mining peak, with only about 400 residents now. With all the whiny reviews, I can see why they do check-in over text lol Like others have said, great for introverts who simply want somewhere interesting and cozy to crash during their stay. Loved the vintage elevator, and all the Christmas lights. Also never ran out of hot water. One thing they could really improve on is the old carpet.. and our 4th floor room was as hot as a sauna when we arrived.. but was quite comfortable after turning down the radiators, humidifying the room, and cracking all the windows nearly the whole time to keep fresh air flow. (still warm enough) Otherwise the room was clean, plenty of tv channels, and bed was super cozy. Also recommended taking a short hike to see Rita the troll in Victor. Gorgeous views.. I enjoyed the bar food next door, and there's a good general store for basics.. (cans of oxygen help if you're not used to the elevation lol) but obviously plan to drive 8 min to Cripple Creek for most meals and such. #1 recommend the Irish casino restaurant, secondly The Creek restaurant. (And the ice castle was so much fun) Enjoy! read more

We had a wonderful time staying at the Victor Hotel this weekend. This time we stayed in room 406. I took full advantage of that beautiful clawfoot soaking tub. It was just the thing for these old bones after a day of walking around in mountains. Haha. We got to visit Rita the Troll! Let me tell you...she is magical. Walking through the town was fun. We bought a piece of art from a local gallery, did some antiquing, and we even got to see the Penguins practice hockey at the ice rink. Before checking out we had breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. The biscuits and homemade sausage gravy was so good!! We plan to come a couple more times this year for some of the events that are happening in victor, and you can bet we will be staying at the Victor Hotel. read more

This hotel was such a gem! Our room was spacious and lovely, boasting high ceilings, vintage details throughout and a comfortable bed. The room had two individual heaters and we had it very warm in no time. The tv had limited cable and Netflix on it; there were also a few board games in the hallway for guests to use. Because of COVID, the check-in process was independent. I received a text the day before our trip with instructions for entry. The instructions were simple to understand and each door locks automatically after you close it. We felt very secure and comfortable. I woke up a few times in the night from hearing the pipes creaking and croaking, but I suppose that comes with the territory of an older building. Besides the pipes our stay was nice and quiet. The downstairs restaurant said the kitchen was closed at 6:30pm on a Saturday which was pretty disappointing, but we stumbled upon the Mining Claim restaurant next door and it was great. read more

The building itself is beautiful, no ghosts tho. A little attention to detail wold go a long way. Lobby was dirty, a day old cup of coffee sitting in the Kurig , no clean cups or coffee. Behind the front desk was just a storage room rather than a place to be welcomed. We asked for coffee for the room and were told it would be brought up, never came. The restaurant was closed so we had to go to Cripple Creek for dinner and breakfast. The carpet in the bedroom was ripped almost in two in the entrance. The sink was original, hot and cold faucets, interesting but could use an upgrade! None of of these things are hard or expensive to fix to improve guest experiences. Victor is a cool little town, including the lone lost cow wandering down the street mooing. read more

Nice place. The rooms are upgrade and clean. Beds were comfy.,The check in /out process was very hands off. You had to text a number to get a check in code , room number etc. Never met or saw anyone. Very strange and unwelcoming. The worst was when we got they we there we were told the elevator was broken. And that was the main reason we chose to stay here. We had a handicapped person in our party. It was a huge struggle to get her to the 3rd floor and down again. We got no apologies for not telling us before we arrived and no discount on the room, nothing. Very unprofessional and disappointing. The food at the restaurant was good and the waiter/bar tender was extremely nice. The lobby needs a remodel desperately. Overall our stay was OK but not sure we would stay here again. read more

THERE IS AN UNDISCLOSED STRICT NO PETS POLICY THAT THEY HIDE IN FINE PRINT, and do not disclose otherwise. Most national hotels allow for pets (hell, the BROWN PALACE in downtown Denver allows pets), and now I have to be out hundreds of dollars or impose upon friends and family to care for the pet on short notice. I have a crate-trained adult golden retriever. It will be more cost and effort to clean up after ME. Stay in Cripple Creek instead. What a joke in 2022. read more

Don't book this hotel if you're not able to climb 4 stories of steep stairs with your luggage or have physical limitations. The room is fine, except for the only elevator that broke down. Luckily, we'd already brought our luggage up. I felt sorry for the others. Note that you rarely see any employees. Everything is done by text so you can't speak to anyone. You're texted a code for your room and lobby door. I was able to catch a person at the desk, but she seemed more interested in sharing something on her phone with her friend than the elevator being out. I asked about a discount or food/drink vouchers and she said they didn't do that. Seemed like she couldn't care less as it didn't affect her. read more

I'm sharing for my elderly parents, as they were taken advantage of. We had stayed 3 days at the Victor Hotel in October 2020 for our 46th Wedding Anniversary. At our late age we wanted to get out of the house as we had been in quarantine as much as possible. We chose Victor Hotel because it is a quiet and quaint little town so not too many folks around. We talked with the owner and she was very nice and we asked about her husband because we had talked to him some time ago when we were in town before. He was very ill then and she had mentioned that he was in the hospital and not doing well at all. We had a room on the top floor and took the elevator up and you could see no rooms were being used and were gutted out on the other floors as the elevator had windows. Our room had large windows from floor to ceiling which were very dirty and let in all street light when it was dark out and looked like day when trying to sleep. We put new paper on the windows and took it down when our stay was over. We had also brought water washable markers and used them on the washable surfaces which should have been washed in the first place for our stay and they were not. We had asked the chambermaid to please wash our sink 2 times and it was grungy and never did come clean and also had no plug in it. Windows were not cleaned and the rug was torn in a few spots. We had to use a suitcase to keep the burrow opened so we could watch TV. We got a bill that stated that we did property damage and it had taken the chambermaid 4 hours to clean this 1 room and said that we left paper on the windows and a drop of cranberry juice was on the little refrigerator and it had to be changed it out for a new one. The room was $305.10 for each night which was not worth it and then the owner added another $300 plus tax for damage of this little room and for what??? Everything the chambermaid needed to clean anyway? Our total ended up being $629.51 which she charged a month later! This is totally not right. We feel she was looking for some way to charge us to help pay her husband's hospital bills and the hardship of not having any business. read more

My wife and I did not stay here on our recent trip to Gold Belt country, but wished we had. After spending the night at the charming and quaint Bronco Billy's Hotel in nearby Cripple Creek, we drove to Victor in the morning to see what there was to see. We poked our heads in the door of this *really* gorgeous turn of the century hotel, and asked the lady at the reception desk if we could look around. She responded cheerfully and happily, telling us we were welcome to peek in to any guest room with an open door. The rooms we saw were sumptuously decorated, modern with televisions, clock radios and other amenities but maintaining period flair. Photographs of bygone days are sprinkled along the walls in the public hallways, and everything is kept "just so." You can tell with just a brief, casual stroll through that the ownership / management take great pride in maintaining this beautiful old gem. My wife was certain she felt the spirits that are said to inhabit this old Queen of the mining days. I didn't, but I'm far less attuned to such things than she is. I'd love to make it a point to stop overnight and spend a night in this old beauty. Perhaps when we go to see the changing aspens next fall. The room rate sheets on the doors indicate that this hotel is a bit pricy, especially for such an out-of-the-way location, at $185/night. But I think I may spring for it anyway, as I'm sure it is worth it. read more

The room they gave us was NOT what my husband booked online nor was it even close ti the pictures....not even in the right building!!! No service, no one at the front desk. My husband booked a room at the VICTOR. We went to check in and there is NO ONE at the desk. Just keys in an envelope hanging on a wall. We weren't even given a room at the Victor, it was a building down the block called the Olympia. You had to go up a flight plus of stairs, the whole place stunk of stale weed, the rooms were tiny and hot, with no window, no vents, no AC, nothing. (And no escape if it would have burned) The bathrooms were down the hall and were community bathrooms. This was NOT what my husband booked and paid for as a surprise for us on our Anniversary. Never ever again.....so disgusted and disappointed. Talk about false advertising!! read more

Buyer Beware I booked a room at the Victor Hotel on Booking.com. When I arrived I was informed that my room was up the street at the Olympia Hotel. I had expected a romantic weekend at a quaint historic hotel. What I experienced was a night in a twin bed at a hostel caliber establishment. The staff blamed the issue on Booking.com. I contacted Booking.com to complain, and they told me that they post the property based on the information provided by the proprietor. Make sure you contact the hotel to verify that you are actually staying at the Victor and not the Olympia! read more

Not service dog friendly I booked this historic hotel on the recommendation of my friends. The website said not pet friendly. I have a service dog for PTSD related anxiety. We never saw any staff during check in as they are doing remote check in. I did wonder why the lobby was covered in dog hair if they did not allow pets. The next morning as I'm leaving with my service dog on a leash and I saw a large pit mix near the front desk. I started to walk out and the dog at the desk immediately charged at my service dog and started biting him on the neck. It takes three people to remove the other dog She apologizes and we try to get on with our Fourth of July plans to find a large laceration from the attack in the dogs ear. Later she stated that the dog was her service dog. This animal belonged to the general manager of the hotel.... Don't stay here with a service animal it's not worth the risk. read more

After a day hike near Divide, we opted to stay at the Historic Victor Hotel. Bad choice and here's why. The rooms are small, wonderful time capsules that are true to the style and architecture of the building, however, they have absolutely no sound insulation. A little over two hours after we checked in - we checked out. We were put in a room next to a crying infant and a barking dog and could not even hear the television in our own room. The people in the rooms next to us literally sounded like they were in the room with us. Now, we find ourselves arguing with the proprietors over a partial credit. This place gets 2 stars and that's pushing it! read more

Staying at the Victor was definitely one for the books. My fiancé and I booked online knowing it was a historic hotel.... upon arrival we noticed they put the keys hanging in an envelope with your name. No need for ID, nothing. Just pick the envelope with your name and enjoy your stay. So we ventured off into the room, the elevator was beautiful something definitely from the 1800s! We got to room 406 with the vintage bathtub, vintage sink, beautiful rustic look with the brick walls. We decided we go on to do what we came for.... Gamble! We arrived back to the hotel late night and not a soul was in sight. Everything was pitch black and we went into the elevator which for some reason we felt like we were not alone.... we went into our room and let me tell you!!!! The night was the beginning of the weirdest nights we've ever encountered!!! We heard noises, our hearts racing, foot steps above us when we were on the last floor!!!! If you want to go to a haunted hotel this is it! Make sure you read on it's history about the dead bodies they used to store..... I'll leave it all here. read more

Terrible service. We had an emergency and our car BROKE DOWN with no cell phone signal hours before our reservation. When we finally got signal, we called and called the hotel to let them know we had to make changes to the reservation. They didn't answer for an hour, and when they finally did, they REFUSED to help in ANY WAY. Absolutely NO service or help. Don't go them, they charged our card anyway and didn't care about our emergency or our situation. AWFUL!!!!! read more

Extremely charming 19th century building with an antique cage elevator and antique furniture in the lobby which looks like the parlor in an old western movie. You don't see the staff much which is OK with me. When checking in my room keys were in an envelope with a copy of my bill hanging in the antique bank vault in the lobby. No air conditioning and steam heat. Lots of mining history in the area. Great location for a fall history tour with a little gambling thrown in. Short drive to the casinos in Cripple Creek. read more

Stayed here because I like historic properties. the Victor is beautifully restored plus modern amenities like plenty of hot water. It is comfortable, clean, and the staff are welcoming. Hotel restaurant not much in evidence(early May) but there are places to eat in town. Classic elevator that works perfectly. Price was right also and there are some spectacular mountain views from the rooms. Would definitely return read more

This hotel is so cozy, old-fashioned, and historic. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. We had an absolute blast. I couldn't believe all the stories everyone had about different time periods in history about this building. Our room was so comfortable and clean. The view outside was gorgeous. The exposed brick and 100 plus year old sink gave the room such character feel. We felt like traveling politicians or business people from the golden ages. The food in the restaurant was fantastic, we had prime rib, veggies and mashed potatoes cooked to perfection. The bar was an excellent touch as well with beautiful craftsmanship. 5-star experiences, no doubt. This hotel gives me the impression that Victor is making a comeback as a great Colorado tourist location. We met a really cool fishing guide at the hotel. We'll be back in June. read more

This isn't really a review of the hotel itself but merely a suggestion to those thinking about staying here. I was planning on going to visit the area but due to medical circumstances, was unable to go. After days of trying to get in contact to cancel I did finally get through but was informed it was a non refundable cancellation. The lady was polite but completely dispassionate to my situation. Any hotel can decide on a case by case basis if they want to give a refund or not and I thought this was pretty cold hearted given my situation. Even a partial refund would have been appreciated. With that, I would advise caution to anyone considering booking at this establishment. read more

I made reservations at the Victor and they put us next door in the Olympia. We stayed in the Gold/Coin Room. I paid for two nights through Hotwire that were non-refundable. The bathrooms were shared and co-ed like college dorms and the sinks and tub were far from clean. When we turned down our sheets to go to bed, we discovered two mouse droppings . It is extremely noisy and feels as though there is little privacy. I was extremely disappointed and opted out on staying the second night and just ate my $80. I do not recommend staying here. read more

Walking into this hotel - and town - is like taking a step back in time to 1899 when the entire town was rebuilt after a fire. The hotel and the town are unsophisticated, but in a very charming way, and the people are friendly and happy to tell you tales. Don't expect a ritzy hotel experience. If no stars were possible! This hotel has BUGS!!! My family and I stayed in May 2017, yes last month & we're all bit up. It was awful, even my grandson 4yrs old had bites from sleeping here. We visit Victor often and fish close by. Save you and your family time & money! Called them and new manager said she wasn't sure how to rectify the problem, said owner Patrick would call. Fun, quirky, historical hotel. The room was fantastic with 15 foot ceilings and windows overlooking downtown Victor and while updated it feels like an old western hotel. The place is a must visit if for no other reason than than to ride the 19th century birdcage elevator, so neat! The room was clean and well kept and they have a very enthusiastic staff (we were there on Steampunk weekend and the staff was dressed accordingly). The bathroom was wonderful with an old claw foot tub that was perfect for a long bath. My partner and I had concerns about potential noise from other guests but heard nothing throughout the night. The only negative with the room was one of our windows didn't have blinds so the sun woke us up at 7 am. But besides that, wonderful experience, great hotel, really fun staff. We'll make this our go to hotel for Cripple Creek and Victor trips from here on out. read more

My fiancee and I decided to take a trip to cripple creek so we may experience the towns historic views and do a bit of gambling. After doing so, we came back to the Victor Hotel which i will say is very , very historical and holds it's vintage look. During the day everything seemed normal, the way they present the room key is pretty cool and the staff were nice and welcoming. At night when we arrived to the hotel everything was quiet, not a soul insight, no hotel staff present what so ever, and dead silent. From the moment i got into the elevator , till the moment i got into my 4th floor room , both my fiancee and I felt a presence on the 4th floor. This was not a normal presence, our hearts were at our throats, and we felt some disturbance within. This kind of thing normally does not phase me, and I've never felt this way, I was laying down on the bed and felt a weight on my chest, I continued to hear noises above us when the 4th floor is the last floor of this hotel. The elevator was working all hours of the night and it will always stop at the 4th floor. At night it would get cold then extremely hot, when we woke up in the morning we realized the furnace was on when we never touched it. This place obviously has it's spirits and energies lingering. I'm not knocking the place, i just believe , based on this hotels history and past they should consider a cleansing of the building...Seriously... I hope this helps. read more
