My experience at the BM Hotel, and the hotel owner this past weekend was hands down the worst guest experience I've had in my life. Me and my husband stayed at BM Hotel for our first date night out from the kids in 3 years and we were very excited to stay there. When we got there we were wary of the lack in security. I won't go into specifics, but if anyone knows how to get inside the buliding (which is simple), there is no way to prevent them from taking a room key and pretending to be a guest. The front door doesn't auto lock and the other guests kept forgetting to lock the door when they left. Anyone could have walked in. Guests in the adjacent room checked in very late (after 10) and for a few hours everything was fine other than hearing everything going on in there if you know what I mean. But then a very loud argument broke out, things were thrown and what sounded like bodies slamming up against our shared wall from 1:30-6am when we finally decided to leave. When the fighting started, I called and messaged the host to let him know this was happening. Whenever things like this have come up in the 50+ hotels I've stayed at, management would come by and knock or call and tell them to knock it off to avoid unnecessary police intervention. Not at BM. Adam was completely unresponsive even though it says in the house rules to call him if anything happens or if you feel unsafe. Adam never reached out to me. I had to contact him the next morning, and when I did get hold of him he made it clear he had zero sympathy for the situation and offered nothing to make it right. He was so flippant and full of excuses Im still shocked by that call. In fact, he proceeded to laugh at my grievance, mocked me for crying when I got upset about the situation and then told me he didn't know what he could do. I'll tell you what you could do - your job. Pick up the phone or respond to messages when you have paying guests. On top of it all, the only thing nice about the hotel is the room and thats questionable. The entrance and halls look like a sad warehouse. The furniture in the Tesla room is ripped and the keylock to our door barely worked. The walls are so thin you can hear everything. The communal bathroom only has one toilet with no air freshener and the hot water lasted only 5 minutes in the tiny shower. Amenities were bare minimum. Even the coffee cups are riddled with chips. I could excuse all of that if the owner had responded to me like his guest who had a bad experience instead of with disdain because I had a legitimate grievance over a serious issue that happened in his establishment. This guy does not follow through on his own house rules and will then blame you for holding him to account. Airbnb fully investigated and issued me a refund based on my safety complaint. I wouldn't even bring my dog here let alone someone I loved. Don't bring your children here unless you want them to learn about the birds and the bees in the grossest way imaginable. I will never go there again and I'll probably never go to Victor again. We dropped hundreds of dollars in the town that guy is supposed to be revitalizing only to be treated like this. 0/10 recommend read more

My wife and I stayed here last January. She enjoyed it. The novelty and creativity of the themed rooms was cool and interesting. There isn't much to do in the town - a little country store and restaurant/bar. It was a beautiful and easy drive from Fort Carson. If I could recommend anything, it would be that they do a better job dusting. Under the swinging bed was a desert. My wife thought the room and vibe were so cool that she drove up for a day to show two friends that were visiting. They're passing through and do so often and were interested in possible stays. The AirBnB site says a bunch of stuff like "female guests will not be made to feel uncomfortable in any way...this may include talking to them or looking at them...the safety of our female guests is of the utmost importance..." While we stayed the "front" door to get in the place was open the entire time. Except for when I closed and ensured it was locked from the outside. While my wife and her two female friends visited the second time, a man came out of a room and was incredibly rude. He definitely made them feel uncomfortable. They were in what we assumed was some type of common room with a large table. The man immediately verbally attacked my wife and her friends after he found out she didn't have a reservation. My wife says it was one of the most bizarrely rude experiences she's had with someone. The guy followed them out the door and slammed it behind them. He was condescending the whole time. Not an ounce of kindness, customer service, or decency. He told them they were trespassing. I guess he wasn't stoked on new customers? If security is the issue, they could do a better job at locking the door and checking it periodically. It is not unreasonable for one to think a hotel has a space for potential customers to view and ask questions. It also very much seems like this gentleman either enjoys or doesn't mind treating women like children. After he told my wife to leave, and they immediately complied and said nothing but "I'm sorry" - he opted to be aggressively rude. Enough to shock and scare them. My wife made a deliberate effort to advertise word-of-mouth for this place, and drove people to see it. It appears Adam Z's respect and concern for women extends only to those paying to stay. Take a look at the multitude of negative reviews for this place - and the owner's responses. A business that treats customers with this level of contempt and takes feedback the way a petulant child would appears to be incapable of catering to or caring for customers' needs. As someone mentioned on a previous review, The rooms were cool, but the trouble started after my stay. I called to reserve 3 rooms for my family because I couldn't get the site to work. The owner stated that he would charge me for the 3 rooms but give me the side with the 4 rooms for the price of 3 at a flat rate of $400.00. I believe he had mentioned the normal rate was $134.00 a room. I thought that was cool of him. The issue was the owner charged my card 500.00 for the rooms. When I called back to get it corrected, he told me that I must have misheard him. He said that's why he doesn't do reservations on the phone. I said I didn't hear him wrong and why would I pay $500.00 for 3 rooms, way over the normal price? He told me that he is a small business owner and he would not have offered me a discount(basically calling me a liar). I told him I can't believe he doesn't remember this conversation and he told me he would put in notes for his staff. He told me he deals with hundreds of reservations. I said not over the phone though as you previously stated you don't do (I felt I caught him in a lie). I told him the only reason I called is because the site wasn't working. He quickly said that the site was working( second time he called me a liar). After getting on the site, the rate for weekdays is $102.00 a night. So I should have paid $306.00 for the rooms. I actually did pay for the 4th room I didn't ask for but was offered for free. If that wasn't enough for him, he charged an extra $100.00 on top of the already over charge. To say the owner is a thief may be an understatement. There are better and more honest options for "haunted Houses" I am seeing lots of reviews of double bookings and glitches in the system but there is no way that his site wasn't working the night I tried to book according to him. Lots of cases where he double books, cancels the reservations, then only gives half of the money back. Buyer Beware! The BBB will be contacted after I"m repaid at least my $100.00 back. I will be getting my $100.00 back by choice of the owner or by judgement of the courts. I promise Adam that. I have no life and live close by. read more

We booked this hotel to experience the macabre, goth and serial killer theme it provided and were able to make it coincide with the Steampunk festival. I booked online, got a door code for a key I never needed because vendors were using the same door to set up downstairs. Our room, #7 Jack the Ripper, like all rooms had keys on the wall by the doors and we let ourselves in. We loved our room, so much history and info. The common areas like the dining room, bathrooms (only 1 pictured) and the amazing kitchen were decorated in the same aesthetic. Everything was clean and well stocked. Victor doesn't offer much in the way of dining (2 cafes and 2 bars) so we walked over to the general store and were able to make food on the kitchen. Beds were SO comfortable. Only downside was thin walls (expected in a historic building) and our door would not stay shut unless slammed or locked. Still, we plan on retuning and staying in another themed room. read more

I'm shaking my head at some of these reviews, but I'll keep my opinion of the low quality efforts of these people to myself. I booked The Black Monarch for two nights during April, 2022. My friends booked two other rooms as well, though one dropped out last minute (and as far as I know, was cool with the refund policy). I stayed in the Black Annis room which was delightfully well done with plenty of lighting and awesome oddities and curiosities throughout the room, though I will admit the kitten was un-nerving, but I just placed a shirt over it and went on with my life. The bed was comfortable, with faux animal pelts and plenty of pillows, I felt right at home. I loved the idea of a shared kitchen and wish I had further researched the accommodation's and brought supplies and groceries. The two shared bathrooms were great, no complaints, plenty of room to move around and I very rarely ran into another guest using the facilities. My friends who stayed in the Tesla room were equally impressed with the design and spaciousness of the room (seriously it was huuuuuge). It had plenty of natural light and at night had other forms of lighting so it was bright and easy to read before bed. It was well stocked with books including a very cute pop up book that I may have immediately ordered for myself. The beds were just as comfortable in the Tesla room as they were in my own. Adam greeted me when I arrived, he was knowledgeable, friendly, and definitely not stand-off-ish at all. He gave me all the info I needed from parking to where to eat, to history of the town and provided a map that was incredibly useful. I'm really excited to see what he, his wife, and comrades do with the original parlor space on the first floor. I'm already working on convincing my spouse to visit this summer. Pros: - Safe, with chain locks on bedroom doors for extra security - Fast Internet for us remote workers - Knowledgeable staff - Comfortable accommodations - Provided travel necessities such as hair dryers, lotion, shampoo/conditioner - Affordable boutique experience worthy of a larger city in a unique, small town - In room mini-fridges - Didn't get annoyed with all my questions and conversations - Apparently werewolf proof during full moons Cons - I had to leave - If you're not from a high elevation area locally, the town is at just under 10k elevation, acute mountain sickness is very real so make sure you're prepared. I wasn't. (Not a hotel dig, but a warning to other travelers) - Locals at the Side Car warned me about it being a full moon and making sure I went to the hotel and locked up and not wander around. This is my type of hotel! The room was so beautifully decorated. Dark and mysterious. The beds were comfortable and there is a communal kitchen and bathroom. We stayed in the H.H.Helmes room, I'd like to stay in each room at least once. Phantom coffee just downstairs is great and a little oddity gift show as well. Leaving a 3 star review as I personally haven't stayed here, but not for a lack of trying. But after a recent incident with their booking staff and a rude interaction with their Facebook group admins AND seeing them beg for positive reviews after some "unhinged trolls" left some negative reviews I thought I'd add myself to those "trolls". At the beginning of October me and my wife made a reservation by call in for a date next week so me and her and some family could go on vacation. We had this planned for a while. After making the reservation we didn't see a charge on our card so we called them back and told them about it. Their staff said they weren't sure what happened and would take care of it and call us back. They never did. So my wife called them EVERY WEEK and asked them about our reservation and why we weren't charged, they said they would call us back about it, we never received a call back or had any missed calls from them. We learned today that our card had been declined, our reservation was never made and that the date wasn't held even though we had been calling about it every week. We then were told we were supposed to go through airbnb to make the reservation in the first place. NO ONE told us this until today after calling multiple times beforehand. I messaged them in what I thought was a professional and calm manner but received a "something must be wrong with the phones, we didn't get any missed calls either" as well as them saying "she says she called 20 times earlier, but have no missed calls from that number. I'll call the phone company and see if some thing's wrong". Keep in mind she got an answer all but one time she called and proceeded to call back afterwards and got an answer. They didn't ask for any information from me, or any dates or anything but knew what I was talking about, so they clearly have information on me. But then proceeded to say they didn't have a reservation for that name (I didn't give one) or credit card charge. And I was told again that their preferred booking method was airbnb. Which was never mentioned to us until today. I've included screenshots of the conversation I had with their Facebook people, as well as their comment chain requesting positive reviews for a $20 discount on a person's next stay. read more

This place is so cool! We got the HH Holmes room & it was huge! It's more of a hostel than a hotel (not a criticism, just a fact & setting expectations). I've never stayed at a hostel but this place was far nicer than most hotels I've been to. The entry on the main floor is historic & a bit unfinished. We love historical, so not a problem. Once you get upstairs everything is so unique & beautiful. You'll be amazed & so glad you picked it. The dining room is gorgeous. We made use of it & their ouija board & a few games with our kid. There is a small kitchen in a different wing from the dining area that would work for cooking meals. It's not an eat-in kitchen, but you can eat the food the in the lovely dining room. The hotel is a self check-in, but the staff is super-responsive. Just email them if you have a question. The town & scenery are adorable. The room was amazing. The history & building were so cool! We'd definitely stay again. Something to keep in mind: this place would be awesome for a group, family reunion, etc. The HH Holmes & Tesla rooms are on one side with the corresponding attached smaller rooms, so you could just rent the one side, if you don't need the entire place. read more

So amazing! These rooms are gorgeously and thoughtfully decorated. We stayed in the Nicola Tesla room which was beautiful. The other room were open so I peeked in. Very very amazing. One bathroom, so be aware of that, however they do provide bathrobes in each room so you can shower quickly and go to your personal room. There is a shared kitchen as well. Very reminiscent of college dorm rooms... if your college dorm was serial killer themed. The town is basically a ghost town but everyone is very friendly. Lots of old architecture and memorabilia around. Really love this place and I hear they have a second place in Denver that is hippie themed... I will have to check it out! read more

However that wasn't an issue they have 2 bathrooms and the shower is separate from toilet. The manager was available when needed for questions or ideas of what's around to check out. Great history. The room we stayed in was clean, and larger than what we expected based on the photos online. Decorated tastefully within its theme. Our room had a great view of the historic downtown streets below. Located near fun shops and restaurants, the hotel itself is 10/10. So why the 1 star review? It comes down to one word: management. Upon reserving the room, we were informed we would receive an email with instructions for check in. The email never arrived, even after calling the establishment to confirm reservations and ask about the email. We were told the email would arrive, though it never did. We called Adam when we first arrived at the hotel and he told us where to find our room key and the front door lock box. The front door was unlocked, and our room key was hanging outside the bedroom door. Our door would not remain closed unless it was locked and there was only one key for the room that 2 people had to share. The front door remained unlocked most of our stay even after hours and there was no visible security which made me feel uncomfortable, especially being 2 women traveling alone. On our last day, as we were preparing to check out, we received a knock on our door and were served for damages that we were not responsible for. When we attempted to calmly explain where we were when the damages occurred (and thus how it couldn't have been us) Adam spoke louder, over the top of us, and refused to hear us out. He was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and not in any position to be running a business for customers. I would give the hotel 0 stars for the management but the room was cool. read more

For a price like this, good luck finding a swinging bed, weird ass taxidermy, full kitchen and macabre themed rooms in the mountain region of Victor... esp good drive for late summer when the aspens turn gold... hosts are a hoot too, if you get to hang out with them. I mean, you can just stay there relatively cheaply but if you want an experience, this is it. This is a fine place for libertines with ethics. A wild island of education and humanism that plays with the ego awareness of the occult, this isn't somewhere to send you alt-right or evangelical relatives who want sterility, a book of mormon and the "free" pour your own motel-8 waffles. This place has montreal steak spice and a big honking kitchen and fridge. And murals of Bela Lugosi. And axes on the wall. The whole thing is about shadow material -- get it? If you do, get in there. If you DON'T, you may not get the sophisticated decor and irony. Regarding the politicized reviews: The hotel also has a firm inclusivity policy and is (ironically) a much safer space for women, GLBTQ+, POC etc, than pretty well anywhere else in the region, so... when it asserts its place in the modern era, of course it gets blowback in social media or what have you. As time will show, the current regime under the persistent cheater at golf name Donald, has brought out the shadow of the default christian american white suburban-to-rural mind: endlessly racist, misogynist (and willing to look the other way or even applaud a president's sexual assualts and constant verbal derogatory slurs against women, physically challenged people, refugees and workers from south of the US border, african americans, Prisoners of War and Veterans... you know, the people on whose backs this country exists). I attempted to book a room here for June 6-7, 2021 (literally in the last 10 minutes). Originally, I found the booking on Airbnb and was going to book through them for $140/night. When I went to check out, Airbnb added almost $100 in fees, bumping the booking to $226/night. I decided to check the hotel's website and book through them- they had the room for $110/night for same night we sought on Airbnb. When booking online, they didn't take any payment info, but sent me an email stating the room was pending. I called to try and pay over the phone to confirm the room, but the "gentleman" at the desk was very non helpful. He tried to direct me to book through Airbnb, but when I told him I've the price difference, he cut me off with "that's not true." I explained to him that it was, and he stated that he doesn't have time to take my booking over the phone, so call back some other time. My children recently gave me certificates to stay a night in the Black Monarch. They knew I loved old buildings and hotels of which all of them have stories of paranormal activity. However, I do not have a desire to sleep in rooms which cater to the occult or invite creepiness. Adam found a perfect solution for me. Across the street from the Monarch is a building called The Battle Mountain Inn, which Adam has been hard at work providing more rooms for availability. The second floor room, which he called "the Western Room", is very spacious , very clean, with kitchenette and even a loft. The wood interior and mounted animal heads all contributed to a comfy feeling for anyone who loves the Old West. The weirdest thing in the room was an old, wooden Buffalo Bill Cody chair which begged to be sat upon. The building is probably as old as the Monarch itself and shares a wall with the old Fortune Club which was also a casino, saloon and brothel in its days. From its recent construction and old history, this building has every right to show paranormal activity when it wants. read more

This hotel is so dang cool! It's a themed, unique, quirky, original AF, boutique hotel so if you're looking for a LaQuinta type stay, this probably isn't for you. Also, the bathrooms are shared, but plenty private where it counts, and the fully stocked (meaning utensils, most cookware, even some spices) kitchen, is just bonus since local dining options are limited. Each room is so unique but the swinging bed in the Black Annis room is by far the best nights sleep I've ever had in my life and I'm trying to duplicate it at home now. The big double room is pretty amazing too, but honestly, this hotel is just so incredibly unique that we never stopped finding interesting things in our room to look at. There's a great coffee shop/gift shop downstairs, and while some reviews mentioned issues with the owners, we found that to be completely NOT the case at all and had a wonderful experience all around, including interacting with the owners. Very clean and quiet little town that has slot only casinos and friendly residents. It was a great way to end my visit to Denver and get away from the buzz of the city.
