I enjoyed the free De La Soul show here, which had good sound quality and a pleasant setup where you could opt for a close-up viewing of Eye Know and Me Myself and I or just roam around and still hear it. I wish I remembered who had the Yelp reviews that mostly focused on bathrooms, but park regulars know about the bathroom sort of near the LIRR train. It's not as glamorous or as clean as Bryant Park but it's mostly ok and open later than one might expect. The park isn't offering a wilderness facsimile like parts of Prospect Park but you can see birds and there are nice plants. The Unisphere is legendary.

Bayside, originally inhabited by the Matinecock tribe, was granted to William Lawrence by King Charles I in 1644, spurring European settlement. It became part of Queens County in 1683. Most early records were lost in an 1780s fire linked to arson. During the Revolutionary War, Bayside supported the British and faced two failed Patriot raids. The arrival of the North Shore Railroad in 1866 brought rapid growth, attracting wealthy New Yorkers and actors. After the film industry moved to California in the 1920s, Bayside's economy relied on the Little Neck shellfish beds.

I particularly enjoy running through the waterfront to soak up the beautiful views. The scenery makes the run a little easier. You will also catch amazing sunsets. There is plenty to do here as well: playground, a soccer field, a running track, a skate park, and courts for tennis and basketball. Come by in the evening and the park is alive. Runners, rollerbladers, bikers, skaters all sharing the paths. It's a vibrant scene!

The Hell Gate, with its big red steel arch, actually looks damn impressive, especially when the light hits it right around sunset. This park just kind of sits there letting the water run by and wether walking by or just sitting down, its an impressive and calming place with the right person on a midsummer night. ​You walk along the concrete promenade by the railing and you see all kinds of people. Couples taking pictures, kids yelling, guys sitting on benches thinking about whatever. It's got these giant green lawns where people just lay around. I hear that there's this massive outdoor pool that gets completely jammed in the summer, but I've never been nor do i intend to. ​It's just grass, trees, a breeze off the water, and trains occasionally rumbling over the bridge high above your head. It kills me how peaceful it can get right under all that heavy machinery. If you have to be around people in Queens, this is probably one of the least depressing places to do it. It really is.

I had a BBQ here once I had to get here early and they is information on when you need to reserve a spot. I see that they installed EV charging units with solar panels. This is an upgrade because Electric Vehicles weren't able to get a charge before. Believe it or not, this place provides opportunities for kite flyers, if I'm not mistaken, I may have flew one here once. The bathroom were decent but people over packed the trash cans around the track which is very unattractive but hey, it takes Every Kinda People, to make this world go around, Robert Palmer said that, I didn't. There is a right way to talk to…read morepeople, and then there is a hostile, nasty way--which is the default style here. ​The rules make no sense, either. The signs say "shower before getting into the pool," yet I was yelled at to shower just for walking to a lounge chair with my towel. If you have to shower the moment you step onto the deck, change the signs to reflect that. ​Dealing with the public is hard, but the staff here are completely miserable and looking for a fight. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere.

Nice medium sized park in Middle Village. Easy to get to from the nearby neighborhoods in central…read moreQueens. The park is divided into two sections by 80th Street. The much larger western side has all of the sports fields, courts, playgrounds, facilities, and plenty of seating areas. It's always busy no matter the weather or time of day, with everything from afterschool sports to dog meet-ups to people jogging. The main seating area (above the baseball fields) includes a 9/11 memorial, and on a clear day, you can get a view of the Empire State Building. The smaller eastern section is the quieter, "no active sports" area. It has more trees and a few benches, making it a peaceful spot to sit and relax. There is a walking path that circles and winds through the entirety of Juniper Valley. The outer path on the perimeter is about a mile and a half and makes for a great place to walk or run without having to dodge cars. It's also pretty scenic, with many beautiful brick homes lining the park.

And the trails were lined with beautiful tall trees providing gorgeous shade. For parking, there's a huge lot behind the carousel on the other side of Woodhaven Boulevard, and it's a quick, easy walk to the park entrance down a gentle slope. The trails are not wheelchair accessible but Forest Park Drive is. I'm grateful for the maintenance of this green space.

One of my favorite things is simply watching the community enjoy the space. It's such a beautiful reminder of how multicultural Queens really is.
