This store had a little bit of everything. From groceries, to fishing gear, to emergency supplies,…read moreto souvenirs. We were in the mood for something cold and bought some big fat ice cream sandwiches- which we thoroughly enjoyed after our lunch next door at Takoda's Restaurant.

Getting gas here is a chore now…read more OK, so now you can pump your own gas in Oregon. I don't have a problem with that. But I DO have a problem with pumps that can take cards, but don't, with no attendants, forcing you to walk quite a ways across a lot into another building out of view of your car and wait in line. When you go to insert your card you're met with a little screen that says "Machine not currently taking cards. Please pay inside" or something like that. Even though the machine has a card reader, and I've used it before in the past under previous ownership. So OK, cool no problem. My legs aren't broken. I'll just walk inside. Now I have to wait in line at least 10 minutes behind people humming and hawing at what they want out of the deli case. Or to stare blankly at the menu as if they've never seen or heard of chicken on a stick before. I do finally get up there. I hand the kid my card. "How's it going? I'd like some gas. Fill on pump three please" He asks me how much? I say "a fill, I want to fill it up please" Then he asked me, well do you know like what dollar amount that's gonna be?. Really man? No, that's kind of what you're supposed to tell me after the car has been filled up. So they don't have the technology to put an authorization on my card, and then charge me what the total is when I'm done pumping the gas? Am I the only person that ever comes in and asks them to fill it up? Really? I say "Just give me $10" Only $10? "Yes please, thanks." (Just give me enough to get up the road to someplace that knows how gas stations are supposed to work.)

I can deal with the high prices. Heck, it's effectively a large ski-village mini market. If you…read morewant normal prices, go to Bend or La Pine. I can deal with the limited selection and am routinely surprised in both directions about what you can find here and what you can't (e.g., fresh pesto sauce). I'd like it better if the deli section the store was built to hold still existed (as opposed to odd lift-up glass covered sections for prepared deli type food). I can deal with the mixed quality of the produce -- some is great, some not so much, so just pay attention when you're shopping produce. What I can't deal with is the meat case that seemingly doesn't keep the meat cold enough. On multiple occasions I have bought meat from that case (e.g., fresh whole chicken or more recently hot Italian pork sausage) that, upon opening at home, I discovered had gone bad, presumably because it got too warm in that case. And that's after picking product from the very back in order to hopefully maximize refrigeration. Net: come here if you have to, but if you're in Sunriver, I'd recommend trips to Market of Choice or Whole Foods in Bend. Nothing screws up a dinner plan like opening the meat and saying, "oh no, I can't use this."
