I won a bid in the amount of $2,500 in a charity event for a 4-night stay in one of Vidanta Properties in Mexico. As indicated on the document for this bid, I must call Advantage Service to arrange for my stay. The $2,500 is the minimum value of this 4-night stay.
Sometime in June 2026, I called Advantage Service and worked with Lisa, one of their agents. Lisa insisted that to fully enjoy my stay, I must upgrade my room, which I agreed to. So, I paid an extra $2,505 for the upgraded room for the Vidanta Grand Luxxe Resort in Puerto Vallarta. My total cost for 4-night stay is $5,005 or about $1,250 a night. By the way, this is only for the room charge, this is not an all-inclusive resort. There was never any mention of any required attendance of any sort.
The moment we arrived in the resort, we were met by a team of salespersons, who insisted that we need to attend one of their property membership presentations, where we would be pressured to buy in their property membership. These memberships usually cost somewhere between ten to hundreds of thousands of dollars. We have been to these property membership presentations before in Mexico, so we refused to attend these presentations. One of the salespeople sternly warn us that we will not be happy of our assigned room unless we agree to attend one of these property membership presentations and receive an upgrade to our room. We did not take her warning seriously, since we already paid for an upgraded room. We thought it was just a sale tactic.
Unfortunately, the salesperson's warning was true. We were assigned a downgraded room in the most remote area of the entire property. There are 6 buildings in this Grand Luxxe resort, we were assigned the room in the building # 6, room # 8290 where room # 8292 is the last room on the floor. There were rarely any guests in this building, the hallway of the building was not lighted nor air-conditioned. It feels more like an abandoned building rather than a Diamond 6 Star Resort as claimed on their website.
The condition of the room assigned to us was best fitted for a motel in the USA. The room has not been occupied for a while; the towels smell funny. There was water leak in of the sink, so there are molds right below the under sink where they store the clean towels. the thermometer was broken, there was a dead bug in the bathroom, the floor has not been mopped nor vacuumed for ages since there was a thick layer of dust everywhere, coffee stains were everywhere, the base of the toilets were full of molds, there is unfinished ceiling right outside our room. I can go on and on on the horrible condition of the room.
During our stays, we would put dirty towels on the bathroom floor, so that the housekeeping person would know these were dirty towels. However, every day, the housekeeping person just simple pick up those dirty towels, fold them up and put them right back on the selves as they are new towels. Most of the time, the housekeeper would put the towels right on top of the wet and mold ridden selves under the leaking sink.
I immediately communicated my issues with the resort's staff and my agent Lisa. I forwarded the photos of the room to Lisa, she indicated that she would communicate with her management as well as the resort management. Nothing happened on this end.
I met several times with the Resort's staff, he confirmed with me that I was not assigned to the type of room that I have paid for. He promised that he would communicate the issue with his manager. So for the next three days, I would wait and meet with him two times a day, one in the morning and one in the evening for an update of my issues. Again and again, he asked me to wait for his manager's decision on whether I could change to the room I paid for. I wished he could be more honest with me, that he or his manger won't do anything, so I did not have to waste my time for three days. On the fourth day, the last day of my stay, I gave up.
The entire time we were there, we have been marked as unwelcome guest, no one would meet with us to show us around. The resort is quite large, so we did not know where to go, where to eat, what to do.
At checkout, there was zero help with our luggage. No one offers to help with transportation to the airport, we were on our own figuring out all these. We had to carry and hold on to our luggage on their passenger golf car.
At the end, my entire trip was completed ruined. We were obviously being punished for refusing to attend those high-pressured sale presentations. Since we did not receive what we paid for, we requested a full refund of our payment.
So unless you are one of those newly minted millionaires by Space X, and are willing to spend few hundred thousand dollars on a Vidanta Membership, let stay away from them. read more
