We're here for a week, and it's hard to actually rate this. We were upgraded to a nice room in the Luxx 1 building, and the room is fantastic. Even though we have a "studio", it's huge. Multiple rooms, super high ceilings, and two decks. The bed and pillows are very comfortable.
The grounds are beautiful. I love the wooden walkways that wind through the trees. The pools are very nice, but maybe a bit on the cold side. You get used to the water temperature quickly, though, and don't notice it once you've been in the water for a few minutes.
Staff have all been fantastic. Very friendly and helpful!
If I were just rating on the above, this would be a 5-star resort, but there are downsides, as well...
The restaurants are not at the same level as the resort. The food isn't bad, by any means (although I was less than impressed with the "The Burger Custom Made" restaurant). It's just that, when compared with other resorts we've been to, the food isn't amazing. It's better than average, but not 5-star.
Let's back up to the checkin process. It's not like a regular resort. You go to a counter and think you're checking in, BUT you don't get your room assignment. That happens after you sit at a couch and talk to a sales person who convinces you to sit in a sales presentation. They gave us two options. Option 1 is a 30-minute presentation without free breakfast, and Option 2 is a 60-minute with free breakfast.
In exchange for our room upgrade, we agreed to attend a sales presentation, and were told it would take 60 minutes after a complimentary breakfast. Looking back, we should have declined, and gotten our original room. Breakfast was very good, and we had a friendly chat with the sales guy during it. When we were finished, the hard sales activity began. They tried to convince us that this resort is different than a time-share, and is something called a Residence Club instead, which really just means you don't pay annual maintence each year in January, but instead pay a service charge each time you use the resort. If you have a time-share (we do), you'll quickly realize it's just a different way of charging the same fee with a different name. If you don't use your weeks, though, you don't have to pay each year.
They offered to purchase our time-share for a very nice price if we would buy into the residence club for an absolutely insane price ($840,000). When we told them "No", and were ready to leave, a new sales guy came in with a better offer. When we said "No" to that one, another sales guy came in with a different better offer. And so on, and so on...
5 sales people later, and 6 hours of our precious vacation time later, we finally were able to leave. And, of course, they just pointed at the door and let us find our own way back to our room from the building we were at, versus having a driver bring us there in the first place.
If you come here, please enjoy the resort, and stay far away from the presentation. This wasn't our first resort presentation, but it was BY FAR the worst. If I could give a rating on the sales activity, it would be a Negative 5.
So... I'm compromising and leaving a 2-star for the entire resort, which really isn't fair to the resort itself because it really is very nice, and the regular staff is amazing.
In the end, we were given a certificate for a free week here. I really think we'll just forget the certificate exists, and go elsewhere. read more
