Yesterday was Touch-A-Truck day! I participated in helping McDonald's with their booth for 2 years,…read moreI helped with the boxes, stuffed the toys in the little boxes. Let me just tell you how much of a memory of this place brought for: Touch-A-Truck Day: They have bounce houses, booths, candy, and more! The people who run each booth explain what the booth is about, they offer candy, pens, magazines, coloring books, and more! There are more than 20 booths in the event area, sponsoring McDonald's, Lamar University, Raising Canes, other schools, Home Depot, H-E-B, and much more! Outside, they bring vehicles to show kids to learn about trucks and cars and do some little activities and some stuff to give them! Food is great, IDC about prices unless if the food is bad, the food they bring is bussing as heck! Tables to sit down and hangout by. McDonald's always bring the best stuff, you have to agree! They bring out the OG Grimace, Bird, and Hamburgular! Offer toys, color books, funny jokes to the parents, family pictures, meet and greets, and soo much more! Every other booth is pretty good, I got a beach ball, LOADS OF STUFF. Some free drinks from the Eastex Medical booth (fruit juice) and from Raising Canes (lemonade)! They got those foam blocks for kids to play with, me and my friend were making towers and knocking them to the floor, it was funny. I was playing with my inflated beach ball, also fun. The museum: The prices are very cheap for enter, like Robert K. said "$24 for 2 adults and 2 children", and the fun you get, is ALOT. Dinosaur sand pit with shovels for children to feel like they are discovering ancient dinosaur bones, my favorite. A playhouse beside it with like tons of people and kids, had lots of stuff to play with. This is ONE OF MY MOST IMPORTANT MERMORIES OF ALL TIME IN MY LIFE. The service is very nice, welcomes us in and being grateful with our payments. There's a cow when you walk in, the utters are squeezable and water comes out into a bucket, funny. Overall, this is a GREAT PLACE, this deserves a 5, like this place makes your mom crying in happiness for kids to have fun in. Legendary place to be in.

Very little happens in downtown Beaumont after the office workers leave. The city tried to change…read morethat by opening a nightlife district on Crockett Street; that was such a bust that it was a joke. No, one of the few places you can go at night in downtown is the Jefferson Theatre. Opened in 1927, the Jefferson is a grand old dame. It's similar to other old theaters I've been to. And thankfully, it did not suffer the same fate as most of them: being torn down for an office tower with no character or - worse yet - a parking lot. It's well taken care of. I put it at three stars because it's not used much. There are VERY occasional concerts and movies that appear here. Not enough to make the Jefferson a destination. This may be because the Beaumont-Port Arthur area has very little nightlife to begin with. With so many people moving to Texas lately, including some to the southeast corner, this may bring in people who may want to see more classic movies or nationally-ranked concerts. The Jefferson has a far better local reputation than the Ford Arena & Pavilion several miles to the southwest, so why not? If you like old theaters, then you'll love the Jefferson Theatre. Hopefully there's an event there when you're ready to see it.

Maybe it's because of the occasional hurricanes, I don't know. Riverfront Park tries to rectify this situation, and does so splendidly. This is a typical city park, with a large lawn area, many picnic tables, playground, lots of oak trees. Many houses close by, so I'm sure that it's used quite a bit by residents who walk there to relax. The hunny and I visited during the annual Riverfest. Most of the large lawn area was taken up by food booths and carnival rides. At the eastern edge was a portable stage where several hundred sat to hear Tauren Wells sing. And now for the five-star rating: It's on the river. Yes, this is a true waterfront park. There is a large parking lot with boat ramp, and a classic Southern riverfront restaurant on the other side of that parking lot. It was a treat to see the barges go by during the Tauren Wells concert. Riverfront Park took advantage of its setting with a boat show on Sunday. I'm going to go back there. One of my favorite dates with the Hunny was when we drove into the California Delta south of Sacramento, stopped at a choke-and-puke deli and got some food, then crossed over the levee road to sit on a dock and eat. No improvisation is necessary here, although if you don't go to the nearby restaurant, you'll need to bring your own grub. She'll love the setting. And you will too. Parting thought: it's not an easy drive from the freeway, and FM 365 does not lead directly to the park.

The Julie Rogers Theatre was built in 1928, back when life in Beaumont centered around downtown…read more When people dressed up to go see a concert in a gorgeous auditorium. Times have changed a lot, and downtown is nearly dead. But people do still go to see the shows at the Julie Rogers Theatre. They go to the Jefferson Theatre too, but for shows that need a big stage and expect bigger crowds, then Julie Rogers it is. And it is classy. Going up the stairs between the Greek columns into the building is like entering the world of The Great Gatsby. It has the nicest carpet, the nicest wallpaper, the nicest couches, the nicest restrooms, the nicest chandeliers. And then you enter the auditorium, and it has the nicest acoustics. The Southeast Texas Symphony is the main tenant, but they also hosted a praise & worship event with Michael W. Smith last year, along with many others. One Yelper posted about seeing the dinosaur-rock band Foreigner here. The Symphony, that's why we went. We got two tickets, the Hunny put on a nice dress, I put on my slacks and Rush Limbaugh No Boundaries tie, and in we went. Parking was an issue, but that's because there were two other big events downtown that night. We were pretty far back, but you go for the music, not to see someone's facial expressions. Really, putting a big screen up in this hall would simply ruin it. They didn't need microphones. Seats were comfortable. It's not intimate, but it's also not an arena where you get lost in the crowd. The past lives on at the Julie Rogers. And this is the place to see a good show and enjoy the atmosphere.

You can imagine the feeling when I found out that they were literally gonna perform in the neck of my woods. We drove to Beaumont to attend the concert. It was a decent sized theatre and was packed inside. We got good seats towards the stage. The theatre had a nice sized stage, plenty of seating, great lighting and sound features. The concert was a hit. Too bad Lou Gramm doesn't sing for them, but nonetheless, all the remaining crew members were the same. The concert lasted for a couple of hours, and they played all the original hits. The crowd was all into it (including myself), and I was just rock n rolling throughout the night. I don't believe I sat down for even a minute. The theatre has all sorts of performances. I look forward to attending more plays/concerts at this facility.
