Worst part of my week in Helen. I should preface this by stating that I was with my family and that's what we were looking for. If you're looking for beer:30 and bikers, ignore the rest of this review. The food was horrible. Bacon burger was clearly pre-cooked, bacon was thin and right out of a Sysco box. Reuben was DISGUSTING. My young twins shared a chicken fingers meal and the bite I had was really good. Sodas were in cans and were $2 each! For that little slice o' heaven meal I had the privilege of thumping down nearly $40. Smokers are everywhere. Nice view of the river, however. After sitting down and getting to the business of choking down the food, two locals in the early 30s sat next to us, beers in hand, smoking cigarettes, and sporting crappy homemade jailhouse ink then proceeded to drop every F-bomb variation you can think of at the passing tubers. I'm no shrinking violet having been in the Navy, but my kids were clearly right next to me and it was obnoxious. I went to ask them to knock it off but the cook (who was on a smoke break himself) beat me to it. These gents were clearly known quantities. Overall, if you want a lil' mini-Sturgis, this might be the spot for you. If you are looking for a meal, take a pass. If you have kids or appreciate a non-smoking section, take a pass. read more

Great place to sit down and watch a football game, have some beer, and eat some bar-food. I was hoping for something with a more "Helen" and "old-world-german' feel, but the fact that you could sit outside and enjoy the weather made it a great experience. Those idiots that worked the door kinda sucked, although I'm sure they were just 'doing their job'. we were at the bar all day (giving them PLENTY of money) and decided we wanted a funnel-cake. We went out, grabbed one, and they wouldn't let us bring them inside. So we started eating them outside and they whined that we were too close to the building. Seriously? 4 stars if they made it a little less like a standard bar, didn't charge a cover to get in and were 'cooler' to their patrons. read more

It is in an excellent location as it oversees the river but everything else was ok. First...They are completely understaffed. We came at 1:30pm on a Thursday, and it took us 30 minutes to get through the line to order. They had one person taking the food order, and the same person taking the drink orders in the separate window. The owner Needs to put some of his profits into hiring someone else during peak hours. Second...it is silly you can't get a cup of water for your kid(s), but you have to buy bottled water instead. Also, I think a$ 3 up-charge for fries is too much in my opinion. Great place. This is a relaxed cool place. I had a cheeseburger and onion rings. My Uncle got a beer. In a large mug, refills were 5.00, great price. You can watch the people tubing or any sporting event you can think of. Great place. read more

Okay, I'll admit it, I gave one star just for the view. Otherwise, it's one star at best. I got a burger, my wife got chicken tenders. Chicken tenders were boring, previously frozen tenders devoid of any taste. Burger was cooked too long, and chewy, also boring and devoid of taste. French fries were ok, probably best part of meal. Other than that, add in tourist priced drinks and entrees and you have a pass to skip this. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. I really have no complaints about the service and the location on the river is great. It's also perfectly set up to watch any kind of sporting event. And they have cheap beer and kraut! These are all highly positive things in my world. However, when I've been there I feel like I'm at a Buckhead sports bar. It's kind of like being at the "American" bar in (insert country of choice here). There are definitely other bars with a vibe better suited to the Bavarian style. This is one of the cooler places in Helen. It's so nice to enjoy a huge beer in the sun out on the deck by the river. They also have a covered area with several TVs which was showing the Falcons game when I was there. Pretty diverse crowd, too. And a full bar. Me like this place. read more

Went here with my mother, father and wife one weekend. I am in my late twenties and my parents are in their 50's/60's. If you want to come here with your kids, dont. If you want to come to a BAR and listen to loud music while enjoying the weather, come on. They have refillable cups - Buy a 32 ounce cup of beer for $13, and refills are $7. This is the perfect place for a hot dog, bag of chips and COLD BEER. Ignore the cranky housewives and their reviews. This is a bar after-all...... read more

the beer was cold, but very overpriced. The food was not good and again very expensive, everywhere in this town they soak the tourist! beer $5 per bottle and a burger is like $8-$20 depending on the toppings and if you get fries. So many people smoking and dressed trashy. read more

It's a cool atmosphere and great drinks. The food is par but the view is great.

It was very pricey for what you get but that is what happens when you eat in downtown Helen. We got 2 cheeseburgers w/fries (FRIES WERE WAY OVERCOOKED), 2 orders of nachos, 3 sodas and one draft beer for almost $60. The burgers were tasty but not really $12 worth but the experience of my entire family facing the river on bar stools was a lot of fun! We sat and watched the tubers and really enjoyed it. read more

Terrible cashiers, awful service -- they were both rude and sarcastic. The only thing these two blondes working the cash register wantef to do was to make sure they charged us as much as possible without explaining anything on the menu. I pointed to the frozen lemonade containers behind the cashier and ordered a lemonade for my MIL.... the cashier gave me a can of minute made lemonade. My MIL told me again in spanish she wanted a frozen lemonadee as they were taking our order and the cashier spoke very rudely and said it was lime and not lemon then said it will be $3.50 extra! BIG DIFFERENCE, just explain it as that is your job bimbo!...My husband spent $80 on four sandwiches and and order of Buffalo wings and three drinks and we couldn't even get decent treatment at the register....their prices are outrageous and they didn't even apologize when they gave me someone else's order by accident. They had terrible singers on stage and are only concerned about charging you as much as possible for a skimpy meal...do not go there if you are really hungry, or want a real drink. They do not have ANY mexican food and should not be using a spanish name for the restaurant . I honestly believe the treatment I got there was totally unacceptable and I would even go as far as saying they probably wouldn't even want Mexicans patronizing their restaurant. I saw the cashier telling another employee about the interaction we had and I guess they were talking about me while I waited for my food I did not appreciate that at all. Horrible: Disappointed by lack of Mexican food at "Viele Maragaritas"..menu is burgers and dogs. Overpriced burgers and dogs that were not as good as fast food Maragrita for $6 was 8 oz of mix. Don't think there was a bottle of tequila in the building. Wished I had gone to Wendy's across the street. read more

Margaritas on the rocks tooooo sweet, deck outside needs to be clean and tables wiped down.

We didn't eat here, but we enjoyed drinking here. You can buy a large mug for $9 and get $5 refills. It was our favorite place to drink because we could get pretty intoxicated for $20 after we bought the mugs. read more

My wife and I just spent three nights in Helen. This establishment advertised live music Friday and Saturday evenings starting at 7PM. Friday we got there around 6:45, ordered drinks (not cheap) at prepared to enjoy the band. Around 7:15 I asked about the band that had not started playing and was told they had called in sick. It would have been nice of them to let their partons know. As a result we went down the street to La Cabana Mexican Restaurant which had a wonderful young lady performing. We also enjoyed a totally excellent meal while there. Back to Margaritas. On Saturday we again showed up for the band. The band played about 15 minutes and took a break, and boy was it a break. After more that an hour had passed I asked what I thought was an employee when the band was going to play again. I was told the band had been performing all day. They abvertised live music starting at 7 PM. Very soon after my enquiry the band started playing again. We left and went back to La Cabana for more live music and another great meal. To sum it up, if you want live entertainment go someplace else. read more
