The way my mom was treated was racist. It was our first time visiting, so obviously we don't know about the menu or what there is to offer. It took over 10 minutes for her to be even acknowledged. Then when she was and she expressed that she didn't know the menu she was immediately dismissed and the bartender never came back. My mom gave up trying to get a drink and came back to us. Stopped in for a late afternoon lunch while passing through town. The parking lot had plenty of spaces, which is much more accommodating than on a weekend. We walked in a waited a few minutes to be seated. The music through our stay wa late 80's early 90's rock so that was nice. We were seated at a booth near the bar. The booth was comfortable but smelled vaguely of musty mop. Our server was quick to see us and take our orders. I had the Balboa, which is advertised as a Philly cheese steak. I have had this in the past, years ago, and today it seemed different. It was not really a Philly, it was more a cross between a French dip and an Italian beer. The meet rather than being fries seemed more like a roast beef that was in an au jus. It had a cheese sauce on it and it was all on a substantial roll. The flavor was ok. The fries could have cooked a couple more minutes and tasted of oil. Megan had a patty melt. It looked like it was on Texas toast, but no, that is just an inside out bun. This was unique! Megan liked it fine. There is plenty of dining in Helen. Many people like Big Daddy's for the live music on the weekends and the good beer selection. read more

Will have to say we certainly enjoyed the food and the bartender Brooke was awesome!! She was so pleasant as she was getting bombed with orders....thank you Brooke! The food was good, we tried tacos, tendies, a hamburger and a Philly sandwich. Yup, multiple visits. Tendies and tots were unique..two fried/sauced tendies on a bed of tots with melted cheese. Good stuff. The hamburger was cooked a perfect juicy medium while the Philly was very meaty and on a perfect crisp soft pillowy bread. We have always loved Bigg Daddys in Helen however recently I don't know if they've changed management or if they've just gotten so cheap they want to overcharge for everything. The Specials on Wednesdays they're now charging $.50 for dressing when you're salad doesn't even have dressing on it and they charge three dollars for a to go box. We had the opportunity to visit Bigg Daddy's recently and quite enjoyed the time we spent there. We had checked into the hotel next door, and looking around at various places decided that was going to be the place to go for dinner... everything else had long lines and we were not in the mood for that sort of thing, and having the hotel right next door meant we could eat and just walk back to the hotel. It was a Tuesday night, which turned out to be wing night with wings that were a reasonable price. I also went for the fish and chips, which were fair. The wings were quite tasty, and they have a decent variety of sauce flavors to choose from which is a good thing. I also went for the street corn, which was excellent. My son loves going to Helen for something to do and we went on Fathers Day. Just an hour from Lawrenceville right up 985 with little traffic. Arrives at noon and seated immediately with our server Jayla as we looked through the menu. Iced Teas delivered after we made our selections. When asked how my son wanted his burger, he answered "Big". Our food came out exactly how we ordered it. I had the Pedro with a huge mushroom subbed for the beef Pattie. My son had the Daddy Cheese with bacon, and I had my bacon on the side so he got to power up his burger with that! I finished my plate and my son got a Togo container for half his burger. Very unfortunate that this is the first time I've ever had to leave a bad review. I came with a rather large group, we came in very excited for this dinner I was planning to reveal a big announcement to the family. We waited almost a hour for a table which makes sense because of the size of our group. After getting a table we ordered drinks and appetizers. My beer and my brother in law beer got mixed which was an odd start this ended up giving me a 32 oz ipa instead of the Dos I ordered. After waiting for 30 minutes for our server to come out since our initial drink order he finally took our order for the food, at that time he also took down another round of drinks for us. Our drinks showed up immediately which was awesome! Until our server James accidentally brought us another round. He had stated that they were double made and one of the drinks didn't even match what we had originally ordered. James stated that the drinks needed to go and we said we would take them. WHICH HE THEN CHARGED US FOR! After that we started getting our food 1 by 1 in 10 minute intervals. After a host stepping up to server us and bring us our food because our server James couldn't face us we finnaly heard that the kitchen was backed up and in a panic. Then the manager came out after 40 minutes of people not having there food and made a promise that we would all have our food in a few minutes. Another 10 minutes went by and we finnaly had received all of our food. So by the time we had waited a hour for our table a miss order with beer, a double drink mishap that we were charged for 30 minute wait to order food, a server scared to face us three people taking our order we finally got our cold food and to go boxes. After all that the manager took off 2 meals and 10% off the top which covered the drink charge at least. Very disappointed in this restaurant but especially our server! read more

Biggest disappointment for my family who started our first vacation in a decade off by visiting Bigg Daddy's. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The lights were too bright for our server James and the staff from start to finish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Just disaster. I'm at loss for words We had a large party and several kids. No reservations which is fine we just went and then waited about 40 minutes for a table. No issue that happens on a busy Saturday. We all got drinks with some waters, soft drinks, and couple alcoholic drinks. We got the drinks in normal time and then we didn't see out waiter James for half an hour. He comes out and we are ready to order. We get a few apps and everyone gets their meals ordered at 7:00 At 7:30 they bring 2 of the dozen meals out and leave, our waiter also brings 2 alcoholic drinks that we didn't order and sets them on the table. When we correct him he says "well do you want them they gotta go now?" We say yeah sure sounds good we'll take them. (He then charged us for both of those drinks which was kind of wild.) At 8:00 about an hour after and ordering we have 5 meals. Still missing 3 orders of chicken tenders, a kids pizza, a chicken sandwich, a plate of ribs, and a Cobb salad and we haven't seen our server since the drinks. At 8:05 James comes out and asks what food is missing as the kitchen is having a fiasco and he gets all the orders he is missing. After 75 minutes. The salad and chicken tenders come out. The Cobb salad no bacon took over an hour. And is delivered by servers and hostess they had grabbed to help run food. They ask if there's anything still being waited on and we told them yes, reminding again that it's been 90 minutes for a kids pizza for our 2 year old and chicken sandwich for my sister. They left and said they will get the manager. The manager came out and was professional apologizing, and saying the pizza is coming out of the oven right now and the chicken will be out in 2 minutes. And that we will receive a discount. She was fine handling a messy situation. 10 minutes later the pizza and chicken sandwich are delivered and we get a quick to go box as we are ready to leave. We get the check and the sandwich and pizza were taken off in addition to a 10% discount. Figured we would get more than 10% but that's fine and the bill was about $250. In just under 2 hours, we had finally gotten our meals sporadically delivered. Several sides and items were cold. Other than that the meals were fine, nothing special but fine. Worst service I've had in years as we just weren't attended to and it felt like our server was hiding from us the whole time. It ruined the start of our first vacation in over a decade. We still tipped 25% on a $260 bill as we realize everyone has those days. But we couldn't be more disappointed in what was supposed to be a great kickoff! My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. read more

Went here on wings Wednesday. The place was busy but the service was fantastic. Our server Tanner was friendly and attentive. My wife got chicken tenders in peach bbq sauce. I got wings 1/2 cajunyaki and 1/2 hot lemon pepper. Both the wings and tenders were cooked exquisitely. The sauce on everything was generous and great. Cool place to eat in Helen, perfect for a quick bite, nothing fancy. Food is okay, service once you're seated is quick but usually a big wait to be seated. Hostess is super rude tho! We've also tried their burgers, fish & chips and steak & cheese and all good but food sometimes came cold. Lots of parking and the restaurant itself is pretty spacious with plenty of patio sitting. Saturday evening dinner. The wait was typical and about 20 minutes. Once seated we were greeted by our server and our drink orders were taken. We ordered an appetizer of fried Portobello mushrooms that were the best part of the meal. My wife ordered wings and I ordered chicken tenders and a side of waffle fries. Honestly don't know what happened.... Checked Yelp rating before coming here but, guess they were having an OFF day. Hostess (teenager with an attitude) gave us grief for wanting to seat outside. She seemed to want to fill in some section first, and got visibly annoyed when one of her coworkers accommodated us. Just to see her seat another couple in the section we wanted 2 minutes later. Fine, no need to deal with her anymore.... Our server came, we placed our orders and food came out. I got the Chicken and Waffles. The plate looked really good. Huge pice of chicken, nice golden waffles, and it came with a side so I got the Mac n Cheese our server said was his favorite. I thought I was in for a treat.... Well, WRONG! I took a bite of the chicken and it felt wrong. When I look at it, the middle was completely raw. I had to flag down someone to get our server. I wish I had taken a picture of it but I was so chocked and disgusted I just wanted the plate off the table. He apologized, and took the plate away. Then he realized he should have asked if I wanted to something else, but at this point I just asked him to cancel it. The Mac N Cheese, was ok after I added salt and pepper, and had a couple of bites of my BF's sandwich (also ok). I could tell the server felt bad, but feel like he could have done more. Instead he just brought the check, without making eye contact and we had to check that the uncooked dish was taken off before paying. Honestly the only redeeming thing from this whole experience were the friend green tomatoes we ordered as appetizers. After a day of hiking, my friend and I decided to grab dinner in Helen. We were staying the evening in the area and based on some local recommendations, we decided on Bigg Daddys. We arrived at around 7pm on a Sunday evening on Labor Day weekend and the restaurant was packed! Slightly hidden off the main road, we drove past the restaurant initially and then had to circle back to find parking on the next street over. When we arrived, we were quoted a wait of 30-45 minutes but because there was a fryer malfunction halfway through our wait, we were told the wait would be longer. Ultimately, I think they passed our names on the waitlist as we waited for an hour before checking again with the hostess and everyone else who arrived at the same time as us were seated well in advance of us. I get that it's a busy night so I don't put much blame on the hosts in this situation. The huge waiting pavilion area with a TV helps make the wait times more bearable. For my meal, I ordered the following: - House Salad: Mixed greens, diced tomato, onion, cucumber, smoked bacon, boiled egg & shredded cheese - Honey Buffalo wings, dry with sauce on the side I just knew I had to try the wings based on the menu and all the good reviews. I like ordering my wings dry with the sauce on the side. The honey buffalo was a bit off at first but quickly grew on me and now I think about recreating this sauce at home. The house salad was a good portion and all the ingredients were fresh. I really liked their Vidalia onion dressing! When in Rome, right? Service was fantastic. Every staff member here is pretty young but my friend and I marveled at how they all seemed to work so diligently, a rarity nowadays. We had multiple servers come to our table just to address our needs and our own server never missed a beat. Helen is filled with decent restaurants and bars but this is one of the staples. Especially for the locals and those of us who grew up here. We stopped in here on Tuesday for lunch and were seated right away. We told our waiter we were on a time crunch to make our next adventure and asked for guidance on ordering.
