BAD BILLING PRACTICE!!! There is only one side to this story. Let me begin. I went to see Dr…read more Jelinek for TMJ pain, which is covered by my insurance BCBS, and it was verified that he is in network. It was understood by the office that my treatment would be covered by insurance when using the proper codes for claims. Imagine my surprise when I received a massive bill because the claim was DENIED. To get to the bottom of this, I had BCBS do a 3 way call with Patricia from billing to ensure their office adhered to proper protocol (using proper coding and timely submission). The wonderful BCBS insurance rep walked her through on what codes to use. Despite this, Patricia still submitted the wrong codes (not even TMJ codes, but instead for snoring- a problem I do not have). This obviously resulted in the claims getting denied, leaving me responsible for the full balance. This is best case careless and worst case, fraudulent. She didn't have the decency to inform me that the claims were denied and instead sent the bill straight to a collections agency. Imagine my surprise when I received a notice from COLLECTIONS!! Of course the letter from collections is when I learned something was clearly going wrong. I reached out to BCBS and I called Patricia immediately and she claimed she sent a bill 7 times to my confirmed home address, but I never received any bills. I spent hours on the phone with BCBS trying to figure out what went wrong only to learn that ALL the fault was on the office's end. If Patricia had filed the codes correctly like she was told, I wouldn't be hung with a full bill. Collections was actually lovely, and gave me time to figure things out. In the midst of this, I had one appointment with Dr. Jelinek and during that appointment, he rudely tried to get me to pay the bill in full, complaining he hasn't gotten paid in months and he has to pay his rent and staff. I told him the new corrected claims haven't finished processing and he needs to wait for that to go through. He has a contract with BCBS in which he has to respect the agreed rate and write off the rest, but instead he balance billed me (charging a patient more than the allowed amount) hoping to get paid in full, which is illegal in the state of VA. Balance billing is unethical. He eventually got paid by insurance and I was ready to move forward with treatment. At my next appointment, he told me he will no longer deal with insurance and I would be responsible for paying each visit in full. He said dealing with insurance is a waste of his time, even though I was the one doing all the work. He told me he is not a bank and cannot wait months to get paid as he has to pay his staff. I had to remind him that the reason was Patricia and her negligence with the codes. He said he did not want to talk about it. I wish someone had told me of his new payment policy before the appointment because I would have canceled. He waited for me to arrive to tell me this, wasting both his time and mine. He has zero regards for his patients, scamming them hoping to get maximum payment. Patricia is a nightmare to work with, an absolute royal pain- so rude even the insurance rep was shocked the way she spoke to her and Dr. Jelinek is just outright unprofessional. Lastly, the office could use an update as the decor is stuck in the 1970's.

They insisted I had to call my insurance to make sure they got paid before releasing the x-rays and said they wouldn't call my insurance because they are "short-staffed." I wouldn't recommend this dentist's office. It seems like they are just trying to get your money and waste a lot of your time.

"Start at the beginning, go to the end, and then stop," says Alice of Wonderland. Go through the door and look at the foyer - it's like a beautiful looking glass. This dental office experience starts with a sparkling clean, high-end beautiful waiting room. Phone chargers. Super smart and friendly office staff who know me & joke with me and everyone. They are also efficient, professional and kind. While I wait, I usually charge my phone because the darn battery dies because I use it. I never wait long. Maybe 2 minutes? Then I am greeted by the super kind and smart dental hygienist. She is so friendly and warm! Ushered into a clean, modern dental room. Updated appliances. Clean dental practices. You know those spit cup stations that used to be by dental chairs in the 80s? They are nasty germy messes. If any dental office has these, RUN. Seriously. You won't find anything like that here. Everything is clean and new and pristine and it's clear they maintain and upgrade as needed. Ok. Time for dental work. Lay back. "Here are sunglasses to protect your eyes from the bright light overhead." "Here is a remote; you can watch Netflix or Hulu channel flip to your hearts' content." "Oh, your jaw is getting tired of holding your mouth open, because it's not something you do all day every day? Have a bite square. Bite down on it, and enjoy your show while we work in your mouth." I am in the process of 2 months of my 3 Month Invisalign process. I have wanted Invisalign for YEARS. This office evaluated me. They evaluated my teenage son. Turns out, Invisalign is great for us! They showed me a computer animation of how our teeth would be fixed as many times as I wanted to see it. It was COOL! I am 45 years old. My teeth are set in their ways. But they are being GENTLY aggressive about fixing my teeth and it is working!! I can see my teeth are getting aligned quite rapidly. Wow. They put those things that are little squares on the front of my teeth. To help the Invisalign grab my teeth. They do have to shave (yes, shave) parts of sides of 1 tooth every now and then to give me room for my other teeth to move into alignment. (This would NOT happen at a cheap walk-in mall place.) I am sensitive to medical procedures. And was apprehensive about getting part of my tooth shaved. But I don't even feel it when they do it, they are so gentle. It's amazing. Wow. I tell you, the entire staff is full of smart, amazing, qualified, fun, kind, talented people who are EXTRAORDINARY at their job. My husband has teeth issues and they are so good with him and his issues. And my two boys didn't want to change from our last dentist but I had a bad experience and needed a new one. I went to a horrible one right after that. I had no idea archaic practices and rough procedures were still a thing! It was horrible! Then I found this place because my dermatologist and psychiatrist are in the same building. And, the cafe downstairs, I have nearly become friends with the cafe lady. I am at this building a LOT, and found this dental practice. This is a great place. My two boys love it too. And my son's teeth are getting straighter with his own Invisalign too! We are doing it together! I am we aware of appointment cancellations and that it is time and possibly taking away from someone else. What you wont do is close the door and scold me for unforeseen circumstances that arose that were uncontrollable. Because at that moment, my anger was through the roof so much, o didn't feel one needle. It was very insulting and demeaning. If there were an issue, you should have called me on the phone prior. And in the email I would be more than willing to pay a missed appointment, should you guys needed to feel that time. And when I snickered, it was better for me to do that, than to walk out and cause a scene. Also I offered to pay for services not even rendered upon my yet until August, but I guess she felt that wasn't good enough. Prior to that hygienist walking I scolding me I had already spoken with the other young ladies(who were very polite and courteous). If I could rate her it would be zero. Because trust me, I don't have to travel from Maryland to Fairfax for dental work, waste my gas, use my leave, and hard earned income. I chose to because of how kind Dr. Le is and her enthusiasm in the field, education, and accreditations.
