This strip mall spot looks unassuming from the outside, but has some of the best pho in town. The service and decor are no nonsense, but the deep flavors of the beef broth make this some of the best pho you can find in the Twin Cities. We have been coming here for years. It's a great local place that has quality food at a good price. This place has easy parking as it's in a strip mall. It's a small place but it does appear many people just do take out. If you want to sit in side there are a few tables and a few booths. Service is quick and friendly. First time here. They were next door to Tii Cup and was in the area for an event at Tii Cup but the event was rescheduled and so we went to Vietnam House for a late lunch. Our group of 7 didn't have to wait very long for a table. We got our order in quickly and food came out as they were ready. The fried rice was ok. The chicken didn't have much flavor and the rice was not fully cooked so not much flavor. Everyone else thought their good was good. They were busy and took awhile to get our bill. read more

As you enter... you are greeted and seated right away. There is no music playing in the background. Menu is 6 pages. Since it is my first time here, I always try their pho dac biet and spring roll. Spring roll not the greatest as it is plain and simple. The peanut sauce is decent. The sauce does add some flavor to the dryness of the spring roll. Pho broth is good and does not need any extra sauce or condiments added. I add the basil leaves and I'm good! There are 3 size bowls... regular, large and extra large. Price varies for each size bowl... $10.95... $11.95... and $14.95. If you like pho and want a place that is good, this is a great place to try. You won't leave your taste wanting more. Service was blah. Walked in and told them how many people and the lady just put down the placemat and menu on the table in left, didn't even nicely layout the placemats. Service otherwise was just ok, got checked on once and had to walk up to the cashier to pay vs getting a bill. Walked passed the kitchen to use the restroom and all I could smell coming out of the kitchen was cigarette smell. Even my daughter smelled it at the table when someone came out from the kitchen. Egg roll has a weird filling in the middle, a bit mushy and not like others I'm used to. Pho broth is on the bland side and barely any beef (maybe 3/4 slices?). Stopped by due to rating and wanted Vietnamese food. Worker yelled a table for me to sit at, twice. Ordered egg rolls and shrimp stir fry. Egg rolls were dry wrap with noodles for filler, no flavor. Shrimp stir fry consisted of LARGE 1" - 1-1/2" chunks of green pepper, tomato, onion, and three pieces of canned pineapple. A bowl of rice. The sauce was orange and had some flavor. About half of the shrimp had the TAILS ON, making it sloppy to fix each piece out to a side plate to remove the tail the 'chef' was too damn lazy to remove. I'll never be back. read more

Very solid Vietnamese restaurant! I'll say that it wouldn't be my first choice but everything had flavor and the portions were good. The service was fairly prompt, although we were one of the only tables in the restaurant at an off-hour time. The vibe gave very classic Asian food style feels and the place was pretty clean. The service at this restaurant was the most memorable. That is the only reason why I am rating them two stars. You can tell this restaurant has loyal customers as they interact with many of them. I ordered the PH5, which was the pho that had beef brisket and rare beef. I counted probably 6-8 slices of beef total in my whole bowl. You can tell there's quite a bit of msg in the soup. The noodle quantity was alright, I ordered regular size so wasn't expecting too much. My husband ordered the seafood banh cuon and I enjoyed that one more than my pho. Looked on yelp for a Vietnamese restaurant near my hotel and this one had the best rating so we headed over. It's in a strip mall and not very big. We were seated right away and looked over the menu. I had my usual, the fresh spring rolls with shrimp and the pho with flank and brisket. The rolls were fresh and delicious. I judge my Vietnamese by 2 thing, the fresh rolls and the pho broth. Solid place for pho! Came on a Friday afternoon for lunch and ordered egg rolls, PH2 (rare beef), PH3 (rare beef and meatballs), and PH5 (rare beef and brisket). Try this place multiple times, but each time it doesnt get better. Today i try the bun bu hue with pho noodle and that did not taste good. The flavor is no where near bun bu hue. So glad I found this little gem on accident. The place was buzzing when we got there. Waited a few minutes so they can clear a table for us. Very friendly family owned business. Service was great. We got the Bun Bo Xao with an egg roll on the side and Beef with mixed vegetables. Egg rolls were on the smaller side but was perfect with the noodle salad I got and delicious. The noodle salad was delicious with the caramelized beef, cucumbers, lettuce, bean sprouts and mint leaves. The beef dish looked delish but I didn't try it. OK... I do not know what else to say, except that in this area west of the Mississippi in the Twin Cities, by far this is the best place to get Pho. The star anise, other spices, slow roasted beef bone broth, lean beef cooked in the steaming hot broth, portions and low prices are phenomenal. I'm giving this four stars not lightly. One of the worst places to get pho. My friend and I ordered takeout for two #1's ,one large with extra noodles and the other was a regular size. They give you the smallest portions I've ever seen and not everything you ordered. It makes no sense why a regular and a large with extra noodles come out with the same exact portions but one cost more just for the name. It was also supposed to come with sliced rare beef, beef flank, brisker, tendon and meatballs. For both pho noodles, we both got was 1 have slice of beef, beef flank fat, and 3 quarters of a single meatball. The meatball was cut into 3 thin slices to make it seem like there were a lot but neither of us didn't even get a full single meatball. The food didnt taste good to even justify the price I paid. I paid $28.67 for this and they didn't give me an itemized receipt so I didn't get so see how much they were. The worker walked away before I could ask how much each one cost. I should've avoided this place once the worker hung up on me after placing my order. I highly regret going here and regret wasting so my money here when I could've gone somewhere else for better pho. read more

There were good things and not-so-good things about our visit to Vietnam House. Overall, it is not the best place for Vietnamese. The good: They have different sizes of pho, which is rare and I always appreciate being able to get a smaller size along with an appetizer. Their prices are pretty good too! The Vietnamese iced coffee was tasty and served in the little metal filter with the cup of ice on the side. I only wish it was a slightly larger portion, but my husband loved it. They also offer an appetizer sampler which comes with an eggroll, wings, and cream cheese wontons, and I loved that because it's always so hard to decide what app to get. The front desk hostess was also friendly and funny, which is always nice! The not as good: The eggrolls were a letdown. Usually, Vietnamese eggrolls are the best of any eggroll out there, but these were small and looked and tasted like they came from the freezer aisle. The pho was decent, but not the best I've had or even in the top 5, as it was fairly bland. Overall, our food was fine, but nothing to write home about. As far as suburban pho goes, I prefer MT Noodles in Brooklyn Park, Gion in New Hope, and Pho 400 in St. Anthony (I have heard the wings at the latter are fantastic as well but have not gotten around to trying them yet). read more
