On a rainy, chilly fall night, I found myself hankering for a comforting meal. I really didn't want soup. Just wasn't in the mood. When Pad Thai popped in my brain, I began my hunt for a restaurant to appease my craving. I have heard great things about Vietnamese Noodle House. I haven't been there since I was a child, and we went to the North Syracuse location. My sister and I headed over to the Camillus location for dinner. From the outside, the restaurant is kind of unassuming. You cannot see in from outside, and to my surprise, it was bustling in the dining room! There is a beautiful mural on the wall and I really loved the cozy, well-decorated feel of the restaurant. I wanted Pad Thai, of course, but I also wanted to have something else! I've had Bahn Mi before and was excited to introduce it to my sister. The sandwich was a really good size for the price. The chicken was nicely flavored, as were the pickled veggies, and the cucumber and carrots added a perfect balance to the French bread. The Pad Thai was exactly what I needed - great amount of crushed peanuts, large pieces of chicken, and a sweet and savory sauce. We also ordered dumplings. They had options for steamed/fried and pork/veggie. We had steamed pork dumplings. It was a joy to add the chili crunch and dip them in the delicious accompanying sauce. Our server was attentive but not overbearing. The total, including sodas, came out to around $40 which I found to be reasonable for how much everything costs right now! Ordered the Special Combination Noodle Bowl (Bún Đặc Biệt) for pickup on a Friday afternoon to take home. Massive portion and so tasty! While I often get takeout from here, the in-person dining experience is also very good. The staff are friendly and accommodating, with the ability to make many of the items gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, or to make other changes. The Camillus location has a better feel to the dining area than the North Syracuse location, but each one is nicer inside than one would expect from outside. read more

Overall, delicious. Fresh ingredients and wonderful flavor in the food. We stopped by for lunch on a rainy day and it was definitely the day for a hot bowl of pho. We were seated quickly which was a plus. Our server was very helpful with answering food ingredient questions but overall service was very slow and it wasn't easy to get her attention. When we finally could order we chose stir fried chow fun and pho. The stir fried chow fun was perfect. The pho had one of the most flavorful broths I've ever had. Unfortunately, due to ingredients used in their noodles I couldn't have them. So I asked for extra bean spouts instead. The pho came out as a bowl with a few sprouts thrown in. There was no extra plate of bean sprouts, jalapeños and Thai basil, which is standard with pho. It took a long time to flag down the server and then there was another long wait for the bean sprouts and Thai basil, by then the broth was cold, annoying. In the end she charged us extra for the bean sprouts and Thai basil, which were the standard amount you would get with your soup anywhere else. I placed a to go order but I was able to see the inside and it was clean and nothing too fancy. I was greeted and my food was ready on time. These dumplings are some of the best I have ever had. I loved the sauces to dip them in as well. I love pad thai and saw it on the menu so decided to give it a try. So happy to stumble on this great little Vietnamese place while in town! We got there just before the dinner rush which worked out great. We were able to get our orders in before everyone started streaming in after work. I ordered the veg pho which was delicious! Packed with noodles & veggies. Would have loved some fresh herbs on top- which are usually one of the hallmarks of good pho. Plus a lime on the side. Again, wasn't served with either of those which would have really elevated the dish. We felt a bit rushed because our server came over several times while we were still eating to drop the check off, see if we paid, ask if we needed anything, etc etc. Prices were decent for the amount of food served. Stopped in about 4:30 on a Wednesday. Was quickly greeted by the friendly waitress. I was allowed to pick any spot to sit in the mostly empty restaurant. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls, the pork steam buns, and a house special banh mi. The rolls and buns were out and to my table in under 5 minutes. The rolls were nice and fresh, but lacking flavor (which is to be expected considering the Ingredients). Dipping in the provided sauce is suggested. These do make a nice light appetizer though. The buns were only okay. The pork was plentiful and pretty tasty. The cucumber was nice and crisp and it came with a mildly sweet sauce on the bun. The buns themselves weren't the greatest though. Definitely on the firm side for a steam bun. The banh mi came out MAYBE 10 minutes after ordering. The first thing you notice is the earth-shatteringly crisp crust of the bread. Holy moly I've never had such crunch from bread that wasn't a crouton. It was delicious though and you could tell it was fresh. I also hope you like cilantro because that's doing a lot of work on this one. All three of the meats (pate, Vietnamese ham, and roast pork) all had very mild flavors and this were a bit overpowered by the cilantro. The other ingredients (cucumber, shredded carrot, and mayo) didn't help much either. I like cilantro so it was totally cool for me, but ymmv. I also had a sparkling lemonade which was a delicious combination of sweet and salty with a tang. I assume this is made in house, because it was room temperature with ice in it. So I assume they mix it then serve. Anyhow, the damage was 32 and change for two appetizers, a banh mi, and a sparkling lemonade. About what you'd expect. Honestly I should've brought a date because all three things I had came in 2's. The sizes were generous enough that this would've made a nice light lunch for 2. I'll be back. It was alright. I had high expectations based on word of mouth reviews, but left disappointed. I did order take-out though, so perhaps that affected it. I had the beef pho. It was just bland. The beef was also extremely dry. Outside of that, the portion was appropriate. The summer rolls with shrimp were good. I enjoyed the peanut sauce. The steamed buns with pork were not great at all. I could not have had a drier cut of chashu. I was really disappointed. I was impressed with the organization for take out and not was packed. For a Tuesday afternoon, there were quite a few customers and the single waitress did a great job managing everything! Since we had never been there, we asked her what she would recommend and took her up on her suggestions. I went with the Beef Pho and my husband had the Spicy Pho with pork. Food comes out well flavored but not spicy hot, so if you are craving some hotness, I would ask them to kick it up a notch. My mom and I came in on a Wednesday noonish and there were several people seated but by the time we left it was packed! We were seated right away and ordered a pot of jasmine tea which was great. Dined at the Camillus Noodle House when we were here for the Thanksgiving holiday. Surprised to see how busy it was. Food and service were good. The only issue was the wait once our order was taken. Appears that the restaurant prioritizes take-out orders versus in-house dinners. We waited for an hour to get our dinners; several other groups were served and finished well before we even ate. Take-out appeared to be very busy. My only suggestion is to serve the in-house diners first then focus on take-out. Just let the take-out orders know that it may take awhile as "we are busy". (The wait staff did try to make things better for us once we mentioned that it was taking a long time for our order). Hopefully things will improve when we stop here again in the future. read more

Had seen yummy reviews for this establishment and decided to try it out for the Camillus dining deals week. Started off with their pork/shrimp egg rolls and they were delicious! I'm sort of a stickler for good Vietnamese egg rolls (grew up loving them and having very tasty ones) and these fit the bill! For the two entrees we could pick, we ordered the chicken chow fun and chicken pad Thai. Both of the descriptions sounded more in-line with Thai food and I'm usually not a fan of ordering traditionally Thai food at a Vietnamese restaurant because in past experiences it was just not as good. I had read some of the other reviews raving about there dishes and I was very happy I ordered them! These were both to-go orders and both had extra sauce packed on the side which was an excellent touch. Food was delicious even hearted up for the next few days. I never did get to check out the other Vietnamese places in the area, but that's mostly because I've always been fine coming here. I came here for the first time after a rotten morning following a long night of sweet shots and greasy food. I thought I'd never eat again without crying, but thankfully my friend already had this place in the hopper for days like this. I ordered extra spicy pho, and received the components in three containers. (Now I know this is standard, but at the time I thought they gave me someone else's order.) We took the food back home and I managed to combine everything into one very wholesome and delicious container. When you ask, they'll make it plenty spicy which I always appreciate. There's a bunch of items I still haven't had a chance to try. My journey into Vietnamese cuisine is still at the very beginning. We've been back for lo mein, pad thai, beef stew, curry, banh mi, and of course more pho. Extra spicy delivered every time, where applicable. I've been hoping to come back and try so many more things, but life is short. The Vietnamese Curry is comparable to Thai curry. The meat doesn't seem like it's cooked in it, and it makes it a weird fit. The curry itself is thin and sweet, but the flavor doesn't hit like it would from a Thai or Indian place. If you've gotta have curry, you'll like it - but I feel like it was a waste of an opportunity to try something they do better. I don't have any other places to compare it to, but everything in the pho always feels fresh, hot, flavorful and delicious. Definitely hits the spot better than good ramen does. I got the Beef Stew on a recommendation, and it was incredible. Just slow cooked beef and veggies in a creamy broth. I was afraid I'd be giving up on another shot at trying something authentic, but it's a unique and incredible experience with the same familiar tastes I'm already starting to anticipate. Also highly recommend the Banh Mi. It felt like making it House Special for an extra dollar was a no brainer. I'm not well versed in Vietnamese cooking... in fact, everything I do know is from eating here. But it's been a great place to experience it and learn the lay of the land. We've been wanting to try Vietnamese Noodle House for some time now. My wife was just getting over a small cold and wanted to something hot light and soothing. So we decided that this was a perfect time to come and check the Camillus location (other location in North Syracuse) out. This review would be I. The 3 1/2 to 4 star range. I am looking forward to my next visit because I am confident I will definitely lift the rating up to a full 4 or even possible 5 range. The young gentleman was welcoming and helpful in the question we had pertaining to the menu options. I was impressed that you use an iPad of some sort to take down our orders. The server did forget to ask us our drink order. I did have to turn to get his attention to get a couple sodas and waters. The sodas came out in cans with a glass of ice. Ok, not to worried but thought it was strange. Normally when I go out to a restaurant sodas come out from fountains. Again, not to worried, this is how they do it so I'll respect that. We place are order for appetizers and our entrees. Our apps did come out. We had an order each of grilled chicken steamed buns, roasted pork steamed buns and fried eggrolls. All the items tasted fresh and hot. The fried eggrolls were crispy and came with a sweet chili sauce that complimented them very well. The steamed buns were very good. Yes I have had better and some other local establishments but they were still enjoyable. I did add some extra hoisin sauce (squeeze bottled on table) to each bun for some extra flavor. I do feel that the main entrees came way to fast. We were still enjoying are appetizers (and by no means are we slow eaters, at least not my oldest and I!). Also, the server did come by to check on us. Again, fantastic young man. I can see he works very hard but when he left he did not take any empty appetizer dishes from the table. This made the table a bit crowed. The Pho was FANTASTIC!!! First off, you get a HUGE portion and they don't slack with the amount of proteins they add in it! So many amazing flavors when that soup hit my mouth! The beef was cold to my order of medium rare and I also added brisket to the Pho. The brisket saw so tender and flavorful as well! I was never upset or frustrated at some of the negative points that were made above. I do appreciate the hard work that our food servers are going through in this day and age.
