We loved the ambience on the upstairs balcony--romantic, quiet, and private with wonderful lighting--5 stars for atmosphere. I suggest making a reservation because seating is limited. The amberjack appetizer may have been good, but we found it too fishy and strong. The meat and cheese appetizer was delicious. We all enjoyed the tuna, the lobster, the brand the seafood but found each dish overcooked. The lobster and steak were dried out. That's sad. The tiramisu didn't fare much better--too much dry chocolate covering the top of the dessert made for a messy, chalky affair. The cappuccinos were wonderful and the service was warm, professional and attentive. There's much to like here, and I'm willing to try again in the future. MANAGER PICKED FIGHT WITH US OUTSIDE RESTAURANT Originally going off of the positive TripAdvisor reviews, my boyfriend and I went to VII Coorte for a nice meal. Gaitan, our waiter, first sat us at a four person table, so we just sat in the two seats right next to each other. There were 3 other couples dining and ~10 empty tables. We ate around 10pm on a Sunday, so no one else was coming in to eat. We made our reservations through TripAdvisor, and I had accidentally made my reservations for the following day. When we asked if we could change our reservation to the day we actually came to honor the 20% off discount, the manager refused to and said he would only if we came the next day. This would be understandable if the manager was not hostile in his explanation. We were also caught off guard by the misleading prices listed for the entrees than what was listed on TripAdvisor. The menu had raised prices. Nonetheless, we ordered the grilled octopus and octopus pasta to start, knowing we would be paying more for dessert and drinks later. Gaitan, who was surprised we didn't order any appetizers, kept pushing us to order more even though we were just content with our entrees for the time being. He would not go away even when I asked for a minute to look at the menu. So we just asked for bread to get him to stop pressuring us. He said we should order appetizers because it would take 20 minutes to prepare our meals, when it took a lot less time. Throughout our meal, the waiters and manager kept laughing at us, making us even more uncomfortable and our meal not enjoyable. We also ordered water, and typically glass bottled water should come unopened. However, the bottle came to the table already opened. Upon further inspection, as you can see by my photos, the bottle looks used, which led us to believe they refill their bottles. At this point, our interactions with Gaitan and the manager were uncomfortable and unfriendly. We obviously did not want to stay any longer for desserts or an espresso because of our interactions with them. Upon paying for the bill, Gaitan took a photo of us. Clearly even more uncomfortable, we took a photo of the restaurant and their staff. As we were leaving the restaurant, the manager follows us outside and starts yelling "you act like a King and you're not a King by only ordering pasta and octopus and taking up two tables." This was also confusing since we were sat at the four person table to begin with and the restaurant was practically empty. It was highly unprofessional. I'm surprised this restaurant is rated so highly when it comes off as them wanting to squeeze money out of customers and treating them poorly if they don't want to. Obviously going into the restaurant after reading reviews, we expected to spend a decent amount. But after our hostile and uncomfortable interactions, we didn't want to spend any more time than we had to there. read more

We loved this place. Great service, spectacular food. Not typically someone who photographs food, but the plating is impressive and the taste matches. My wife got the pasta with octopus, and it's easily the best octopus any of us have had - not chewy, just meaty and wonderful. Yum. read more

Both the manager and waiter were racist. The food was not good, overall this was a bad experience. Avoid eating here if you're not Italian.

We were part of a group of twelve on a weeknight. We shared a family-style dinner of sesame tuna steak, octopus, grilled calamari, bruschetta, a cheese plate and a salad. They were great about my allergies, pointing out which dishes I could have and making several just for me. There is an upper-level balcony, but the heater wasn't working so we ate inside. The plastic chairs are out of place with the surroundings and should be replaced. I didn't pay the bill, but the prices were reasonable. read more

The service was the main concern at VII Coorte. The staff was unfriendly and inattentive. We would've liked more wine after our first glass; but alas, we never saw our waiter after he took our order. After that, our only interaction was with...no one. The wait staff was very good with the Italian diners, however. We ended up striking up a conversation with the well-traveled, American gentleman at the table next to ours and he told us of even worse and insulting service problems that he experienced that night. As for the food...We took a chance on the warm octopus salad (we're accustomed to fried calamari with aoli on the side) and we were not disappointed. Absolutely delicious. Sold on non fried calamari! As for the much-touted crab pasta: yes and no. The homemade pasta was in a slightly biting tomato sauce and was wonderful. The crab? Not so much. Literally. Much to our surprise, the dish arrived with a whole crab, in shell, on the side. It was ~impossible~ to shell the crab without the effort of Hercules. Even my husband had trouble. I finally gave him mine to crack (well after I had devoured the pasta). Eventually he succeeded, and managed to pull out about a tablespoon of crabmeat from the entire crab. He got about 1/2 tablespoon out of his own. So--although this restaurant has based its reputation on the crab pasta, I give it a solid thumbs down. Being from the upper left coast of the continental US, we know good crab when we see it, and regrettably we didn't see it here. read more

Great ambiance, great friendly staff, somewhat subpar meal. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing - but I had heard that spaghetti carbonara was a Rome specialty, and I was disappointed with my version here. It was very very very salty - and I like salt; but this was too much for me. The view on the terrace was amazing though!!!! And the prices were reasonable. Good dinner, good service, and not expensive. Group of four ate hear together and we all enjoyed our meal. The tables and chairs look like you're eating at a fast food place, but the food and setting are great for a long, relaxed dinner - don't be put off by first impressions. read more
