Stopped in today after a long day touring the area. I ordered the Hilda Smash and my wife had the Ahi Berry Bliss salad. My burger was indescribably good, with just the right amount of heat with the jalapeños and ghost peppers. All the flavors complemented each other to make a most satisfying taste sensation. Same with my wife's salad entree. Extremely flavorful ahi paired with candied pecans, feta cheese and berries. When in the area again, we'll definitely be back! read more

Moved to the area recently. Not a ton of dining choices, but this place looked pretty good. We ordered 4 different apps for pick up and were thoroughly disappointed in all 4. Wings, Chix Bites, Chips n Valhalla "dip" and the Thor Beans. Not one was good. At all. Threw 90% of it away. Needless to say we won't be bothering with exploring the main menu. read more

Tried VBP for the first time on a Saturday evening. Busy place, but we got a window booth. Started with the Thor's Lightning Bolts (fried green beans lightly battered). The lingonberry dipping sauce was a perfect pairing. Also ordered a bowl of the Salmon Smoked Chowder. Was definitely a Norwegian twist to chowder, but pretty good. Son ordered a cheeseburger, extra patty, and cole slaw on the side. He's ketoing, so he removed the bun (though he did taste the bun and said "oh that's good"). Tina had the rueben and fries, was decent, not great. Randy took chance and ordered the Saturday special - Norwegian Meatballs served on mashed potatoes and gravy, side of slaw and a roll. It was fantastic! Four meatballs and delicious gravy. The roll was amazing by the way, and so was the cole slaw. Wait staff were great, albeit busy, they took care of us nicely. I've been in here a few times now, and I do really like it! Came in on a Friday once for fish. The place was PACKED! There was a long wait, but we found a spot at the bar so it wasn't a big deal. We were called up to our table much sooner than what they had estimated, so that was really nice! The food was really good. It seemed to take quite a while to come out, but when it did, it was worth the wait. The inside of the restaurant is really very cool. It's got a couple different levels, different seating areas, and of course the centerpiece being the Dragon bar. Really well put together. read more

My husband and I love VBP. The service is great, and so is the food. The food always comes out fast and the servers are attentive. They have your typical pub fare but also some unique menu items too. My favorite dish is their grilled chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich has a citrus remoulade that is nice and light. And they put a seasoning on their fries that makes them delish! If you like chocolate, try the chocolate lava cake. It's so good. read more

Stopped in this afternoon with a large party. I ordered the Oslo Burger, which was fantastic. It was accompanied by coleslaw, which was also exceptionally good. I stole a Potato Kegger from my friend - next time I need to get them. All in all, the meal was terrific, as was the service. The server was super accommodating. I will be back! read more

This brew pub was recommended to me from a friend that knew I would be in the area. I wish I had better news.... but, this place was such a huge letdown! The service was extremely slow and totally deserves 0 stars. I could see our server standing back in the server area chatting to other people casually while we were waiting for our first drinks, then our drink refills and also our food. There was a moderate amount of patrons in the place, but it was not busy. The first round of drinks took about 15 mins to arrive, the food was definitely over an hour wait. I had to walk back to the server area to pry our server away from a personal conversation to beg for our bill. She didn't check on us once after the food arrived. The food was good once it arrived. I ordered the fish tacos (3 stars) and they were heavily breaded. I got a small hint of fish in there. All in all, it took us close to 2 hours to have a 'quick bite' here. Not sure what happened... Arrived at the Viking Brew Pub and was told there would be a 30 minute wait for a table on a busy Saturday night. We were seated about 30 minutes later as expected. The evening special was Norwegian style meatballs, and several of us tried to order them, but our server told us that they had run out. We were disappointed and surprised, since it was only 7pm. We switched our order to a regular menu item, the Scandinavian cod, only to be told that there were only 2 left. So 2 of us chose alternative menu items and were set. After about 40 minutes, we had not received our food, and asked the server if we would be served soon since by this point we were starving. She came back from the kitchen and apologized and acknowledged that it has been over 40 minutes since we ordered. She said that the kitchen was busy and they thought that it would likely be another 40 minutes until we would get our food! We were stunned, and the server basically indicated that she wouldn't blame us if we decided to leave because it would probably be better if we just went somewhere else. We obliged and headed to Angelo's in McFarland, which was wonderful as always. We will never go back to the Viking Brew Pub and would recommend that others avoid if their objective is to be served food. read more

Just moved to stoughton 2 weeks ago and already been here twice, I got the spicy burger the first time and the pesto chicken the second. The Viking Brew Pub lives up to its name! Let's start with the reason you go to a brew pub in the first place, the beer! First, we were pleased by the large selection of beers they were brewing themselves. We tried two separate flights and still did not sample all their offerings which, given the size of the venue, is surprising. Second, while every palate is different, we did not find one of the eight we sampled that we flat-out did not like. Third, when we ordered a beer with the meal, they came out in a full 16 oz pint, no mere 12 oz pours for this pub! And last, but not least, they had an impressive selection of beers from local and regional brewers as well as the standard industrial breweries on offer. Now as to the Viking portion of the pub, the town of Stoughton is very proud of its Norwegian heritage and thus the bar is in the shape of a Viking longboat including a dragon-headed bow spirit. While it may sound kitchsy to some, it seemed more of a fun nod to the town's heritage and something that kids would love. Yes, forgot to mention, this is a family-friendly venue. Our server was very friendly, prompt and even took the time to chat with us about the local area and other places we may enjoy while in town. We can highly recommend the Viking Brew Pub, for a great beer, good meal and fun atmosphere. read more

My family and I were looking for a new place to add to our list of regular restaurant about eight months ago. Viking Brewpub looked like it was worth a shot. The first trip made us very pleased. Great decor throughout from the ship bar, the slab tables and best of all, a wonderful space in the back with sofas and chairs - perfect for a family. The food was good, servers were wonderful, price fine. Good enough to make us want to make it a regular. Since then, we have had some... off nights. Slow service, errors in the orders. Nothing that can't be written off to a "bad night". However, the last several outings have pushed us over the top, enough that I have taken the time to write this and sign my name to it. Tonight was torture! Its trivia night at The Viking Brewpub, the theme tonight, Harry Potter. We all like Harry Potter, and we like trivia enough to have this factoid be a potential benefit. Not the case. The sound system is a complete mess. The "Trivia Master" or whatever he would like to call himself seemed unable to work the mic / PA system in any way. Most of the time it was simply an unintelligible voice SCREAMING at the patrons. It didn't help that his delivery was poor. Between the muddled Harry Potter questions was blaring music that, because of a blown speaker I learned, was distorted. My family might have been able to deal with the terrible audio assault for a reasonable amount of time, but that was where things got bad. After a little more than an hour wait for simple burgers and fries, my family was becoming impatient. My seven-year-old son was binging to slump into his seat, while my thirteen year-old nephew was starving in the way that any thirteen year-old gets when he hasn't had food for more than three hours. I went looking for our server. She said they were "plating our food right now". OK, that is something to take back to the table. A half-hour passed from that point to when the food arrived! After the wait, some food was cold. All of us were unhappy and not enjoying our meals hot or not. The excuses offered by the server, owner, and trivia person were all not much of a recovery. They came off as defensive rather than understanding that what happened was I just paid money to have my family be tormented with audio assault and rewarded for their wait with some OK food. They offered to "take something off the bill". Nice try, but not enough to recover from that mess. The rant could be longer, there were more problems, but why bother. What I wish I could be doing is writing something very nice, and here I am writing how little I ever want to go back. read more

I was excited to see this new brewpub open here in Stoughton, and checked it out last night with some friends. While it seems like they're stilling working out some of the kinks of being new, it's definitely a fun place to hang out and has some good beer. The "Viking" theme in their decor is striking--especially the bar shaped like the prow of a ship! The main bar area is spacious, with plenty of seating, including tables and booths. There are several big TVs throughout the space, which gives it a bit of a sports-bar feel. Not usually my favorite kind of place, but there was enough other stuff going on in the decor/atmosphere that it was pleasant even for this non-sports-loving gal. We also discovered a cozy little back area with some couches, which is where we spent the evening. We had a server offer to bring us our drinks, and she was very friendly and attentive. The beer menus they had were inaccurate--apparently, they were newly printed and the bar didn't have all the beers in stock yet. However, they did have their 3 in-house brews plus some other options, and our server was good at making recommendations. I tried the Midnite Sun, the house-brew cream ale, which was refreshing but a little bland for my taste (though I'm also not a big fan of Spotted Cow, everyone's favorite cream ale, so if you like that, you might love the Midnite Sun). My husband tried the Soot in My Eye, their black IPA, which was rich, complex, and a bit spicy. I didn't taste the Nordic Blonde, their other house brew, but perhaps next time! As far as food, they only serve pizza right now, but the server indicated that they will be offering more food some time soon. Great food great service and great beer !!!! I don't know what these other people are talking about but everything was delish !!! Our server was awesome !! She recommended the Scandinavian cod dinner and so do I!! The cabbage and potatoes and mustard sauce really make this dish come together !! My fiancé got the Oslo burger and also said it was fantastic!! For an app we ordered the Valhalla dip. yummy!!!!! The beers were good also !! I had a blueberry beer that wasn't even on the menu. Best food in Stoughton. Don't be afraid of lingonberries or other unfamiliar ingredients. It's delicious, no matter your heritage. My personal favorite is the Ole burger, but it's all wonderful. Staff is fun and very personable. read more

It's hard to be in a Viking bar with the Packers about to kickoff, but the atmosphere here makes it worth while. The jalapeno poppers were so yummy! And the berry dipping sauce sounded strange at first but balanced the flavors oh so well. I had the Portobello sandwich and homemade fries with cheese sauce. We went here as a family while we were in town for our daughter's volleyball game. We sat almost 10 minutes before our server came to take our drink order. While we waited we looked at pretty limited food menu and a hand written beer list with things scratched off updating the beers they were out of. I think it would serve them better to type it up, way more professional. Our waitress mentioned they were still getting everything straightened out from just opening. Her comments made me think they had only been open a few weeks, but it looks like they have been open a while. We ordered our food and drink right away when the came. The food didn't take too long. Our meals were ok, my husband and I each got burgers that were ok. The kids split a chicken strip meal, again just ok. Loved this place! Such a fun ambiance and everyone was so friendly. We came for lunch and it was delicious. I got the chicken sandwiches and the chicken was cooked to perfection, the sandwich was full of flavor, and the fries were very well seasoned as well. The Mahi Mahi Reuben was really good. I also enjoyed both Weiss beer selections. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable but service was a little slow. I debated giving them a four star review, really. Here's my list of why I like the place: - Environment, super cute and I love the viking ship that does occasionally blow out a little steam and it's very spacious. - Beer, pretty good, my husband enjoys it. - Food, delicious it's made fresh and they offer things that aren't offered anywhere else in Stoughton. - Service, friendly and willing to help you with a couple of suggestions if you can't decide what beer or food you want. Now my list of why only 3-stars: - Bar, WAY WAY WAY under stocked. I know, I know I should be there for a beer but can't blame for me for just wanting a good rum or hard cider once in a while. - Food, it's just such a tiny menu and I feel that each time I go they either change the ingredients or get rid of something all together without taking it off their menus. - Prices, eh. I'm willing to pay them but eh. Service was so slow it was offensive. Waited forever just to get our drink orders in and again to get said drinks. When we first tried to order they said that they ran out of meatballs, and the cod so we needed more time to think. When our waitress came back and we ordered again we were told that they were out of the pork as well. Almost everyone ended up having to order a hamburger and they took forever to get them. The burgers were sub standard, frozen beef patties that were charred on the outside and rare in the middle. Heaven help you if you wanted a refill. Was told that this place has great service and food, and they are quick which we needed. Arriving on a Saturday (lunch hour), we had 1.5 hours before my kids next basketball game and so we went here. There was only ten other people in the bar and we had four. In short, the place was pretty dead. Decor was nice and clean. Staff were friendly. 5 minutes in - greeted by bartender 15 min - waitress brings menus and takes order 45 min - have not seen our waitress for quite some time, have to ask bartender if our food is ready as we had to leave soon, was told it was "almost" ready 55 min - told them to make the order a to go order as we had to leave, was told it will be right out 70min - we finally get the food and leave I realize 2 star is harsh for slow service, but the above seems unreasonably slow (apparently in Stoughton, 25 minutes is "almost ready"). And while the staff were nice and said sorry for the delay once, we saw at least one other person come in after us, place their order AND get their food before we did. On top of that, the food quality suffered after a short ride in To Go containers. And my son couldn't eat as he had no time. So all in all -- I feel I am being generous with a two. They are lucky I didn't give them a mouthful of what I wanted to serve up! Will not return... and will tell my friends and family to avoid this place. read more
