My husband and I have been running to go here for a while, but we don't usually like to go downtown, plus it's closed on my day's off .But we finally made the trip. Idalis was our server and she was amazing, very helpful with our questions and knowledgeable, and she said she was new, so she was definitely doing her job well. Loved the welcoming drink, non alcohol, but very nice touch. We both ordered a cocktail off the list. It was the 2 bourbon, ones, can't remember their names. Mine was the whiskey sour rendition, and I loved it. I usually don't like sour drinks, but I think the egg white really mellowed out the sourness. Then my husband got the one that was kind of like an old-fashioned with absinthe, he loved it as well. Then my husband wanted to try the mead. He's never had it before so he wasn't sure, so Idalis brought a couple samples and we liked them both, so he ordered one and I ordered Mike's white ale. I thought I liked it at first but then it got to be too hoppy. Now on to the food that we ordered. We started Out with the cheese soup and the assorted pickles. Super delicious. The soup was light and not heavy.Just like our server had mentioned , so totally recommend. Then I ordered one of the sausages that had garlic in it. I knew it was gonna be good, but not as good as it actually really was. I would probably get that every time I go there. We went out on a double date night with some to Viking Mike's Alpine Yurt Bar. I had been studying the menu prior, so I knew what I was going to get before. It is located in the Downtown area, which has come a long way over the last few years. Food They have a nice small plates meant. Between our group, we ordered the bratwurst, chicken schnitzel, and has brown. The schnitzel was the star and a must order. For drinks, I started with the highly recommended Valkyrie, which was excellent. Very easy to drink. I went with the R & R Daiquiri, which had a great rhubarb taste. 5/5 Service We were greeted right away and server was really knowledgeable and helpful. His recommendations helped make it an even better experience. 5/5 Ambiance Viking Mike's leans in hard to their theme and they nail it. The bars are both designed for the theme and use. My wife and I came here on a Saturday night in June. We were seated at the bar because that was the only seats available if we didn't want to wait. It worked out perfectly because our bartender, Kaylee, was super attentive. We were given 2 small welcome samples of their iced tea. My wife enjoyed it and ordered the regular size for herself. I had my usual diet coke. More bonus points for coca cola products! Even though the bar was busy, Kaylee took the time to explain all the items on the menu and answer all of our questions. We came in for some small bites so we ordered a pickle sampler and some steak on a stick (skewers). Now let me tell you about these pieces of meat on these sticks. Holy smokes are they good! Very tender, extremely flavorful and juicy. Perfectly cooked, absolutely phenomenal. After one bite from each of us, we knew we were getting more. Absolutely worth the $12 price tag. The pickle sampler was also very good. Each pickle explained, 3 pickle flavors. Small pieces of pickle, just enough to give you a taste. Not bad for $6. We realized we forgot to take pictures of the food and I apologize. I will be returning and I'll update this review with photos. The bar is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful woodwork and decor. We felt like we were almost on a movie set. Even the bartender looked like a Viking. There are non-alcoholic options. As soon as you walk in you get a hint of what you're in for... it's definitely more of a calm laid back vibe. The lighting is dim, which adds to the Yurt experience. Love that a bar of this caliber is in local Vegas (Arts District). The front area differs from the back yurt bar area, where we were placed as walk-ins. Great for small parties of 2-4 (standing around the yurt bar isn't a thing, everyone seems to need a seat). Very dim, excellent service, RSVP recommended but not necessary, with walk-in still require the host to seat/place you. Prices aren't extremely overwhelming which means some locals could still enjoy it. This place is polished, not commercialized and tacky like many local places, with the space designed well to be cozy, and semi-vibrant. Maybe a certain music genre is needed to make it upbeat. Not a bar lounge for dancing. Definitely a more intimate type place to catch up over drinks and snacks. For local Vegas, this place is A+ and considered a destination bar (where locals would be willing to travel a distance for). For LA LA or big city folks, this place would be a normal popular and local everyday spot like wurskucte in LA arts district; nothing crazy, just simple and comfortable in vibes, decent quality drinks and food. This bar is probably the 1st bar I could say I actually fully overall like in local Vegas right now!!! Rebar comes pretty close but it's different. This is coming from a bar snob who was living in LA LA, and whose work use to include exploring bars to lounges in LA LA. Service and Experience -- We were each given one of their drinks without alcohol as a palatte cleaner. Everyone was offered water and they actually did come around the refill the water. Everyone in our party seems to have enjoyed their cocktail, and beer. The end bill came with 1 swedish fish snack for each person. Service was excellent. The beginning welcome and goodbye by all staff around and then hostesses was a nice charming touch. Tip -- If you're trying to find the viking poop, go to the yurt 1 restroom located in the back, small hallway. It's almost impossible to find which door out of the 3 is the restroom haha In the past year, there seems to be a new bar lounge popping up in the arts district. Great for the neighborhood! But sadly, many of us know what the deal is.....many of them are for tourists, not locals. The turnover rate of businesses is pretty high. Vegas also isn't densely populated, so most locals end up crowding very particular places over and over again. Looking forward to what this venue becomes over time. They seem to have gotten it down!! I have been trying to go to this beautiful yurt for the past few months and I finally was able to make it in without an insane waitlist or showing up when they are closed! And it was worth the wait!!! First of all, in my 32 years of living in Las Vegas I have never experienced such warm hospitality in the way that Viking Mike's does it!! Like I was blown away! The staff there are so incredibly nice!! The way that they all work together so well, especially in like a tight circular bar... like they must've gone through some kind of teambuilding exercises, I don't know what but they can all just understand how each other work and their body languages and I was just watching this throughout the night like everyone there knows how to work together very well like a well oiled machine. And there's all of these little touches that really make this bar so unique in the experience not just the aesthetic (I'll get to that! lol) But from the minute you walk in the hostess is just so on top of it like immediately you are being walked to the yurt... and BAM! Welcome shot (nonalcoholic) and water immediately put in front of you, no questions asked. That welcome shot absolutely phenomenal, incredibly refreshing, and guess what you can get it as a drink! *gasp* It's on their non-alcoholic menu labeled as "pick your poison" my friend got it and she absolutely loved it! Our server was so sweet, quick with our drinks and had our food put in immediately! When I tell you that food arrived within a couple minutes! Like I turned, and all of a sudden there was food in front of me! We decided to just get a little late night nosh, so we did the pickle sampler and the cheese platter! Absolutely delicious! That Gouda cheese... I miss it already! And there are so many more things on the menu that I really wanna try! For my drink, I got their Nordic lemonade (mocktail) and it was amazing, not too lemonade just the right amount, and then just this little hint of dill... which you think would be weird, but it actually works really well. And when you get your check, you get a little sweet treat surprise! Now let's get into the aesthetic... when you first walk in, you are in a freezing refrigerator plastered in antlers... you walk through that door and immediately you feel the warm rush the hostess is right there immediately has your seats ready for you. We sat at the yurt bar, but they do have a northern lights style bar when you first walk in as well as table seating. When you walk into the yurt, it is this massive circular structure, with stunning, colorful stained glass windows, all the way around bench seating with tiny little drink tables, there is fur everywhere, including on the speakers, they even have a tiny little hidden door with little windows (you have to find it, probably for the gnomes or whatever Nordic equivalent lol) I highly recommend checking out the bathrooms, especially the bathroom located at the end of the yurt, (if you are confused, there are three bathrooms, two in the front area, one in the back, they're kind of hard to notice at first, so people end up, thinking there's only one bathroom and all waiting in line in the back of the yurt) but you should definitely check out the bathrooms. They definitely go with the theme. LOL and you will learn something very educational in the bathroom at the end of the Yurt! I sure did!! I absolutely loved Viking Mike's and I will definitely be back. There are so many things on that menu. I still need to try! But when I tell you, you need to check out this Bar in the arts district, YOU NEED TOO!!! Not just for the amazing aesthetic, but for the amazing service and hospitality! And depending when you go, they do have a waitlist sometimes that is incredibly long, so plan ahead!! And also know that they are not open on Mondays and Tuesdays so don't show up there thinking that they're open when they are not... you will be sad and disappointed. but I promise you if you show up on a night that they are open you will be so happy and you will have such a good time!! We loved this new additon to the arts district. I'm from the Midwest so I was digging the winter alpine vibes. As soon as you walk in the temperature is cold to bring you into an immersive state. Then we walk into the bar area and the northern lights catch my attention immediately. We ended up just sitting at the bar on a Sunday night. It's more of a lounge vibe it's not a loud party vibe so it's not great for groups. They had a welcome cocktail in a frosty glass. The menu had some unique drinks and I need to go back for more. I tried the lunch box not which tasted like a boozy peppermint mocha and loved it. It is only of those dangerous drinks you can't taste the alcohol (as long as you stir the alcohol correctly). The Yert in the back is so beautiful and I would love to sit there next time! The staff was super friendly and my friend and I loved our experience here. The cheese plate we split was a little sad for two people. Usually I would assume more substance for a cheese plate but we weren't super hungry so it was not a huge deal. From wooden benches to antlers and furs on the walls this was expertly thought out to oooze coolness! Step to the bar and be greeted with a Frozen Welcome Shot, some delicious herbal tea! Then look at the Cocktail menu and find some well curated libations! A must try is the Lunchbox Nog! It's a Yoo-hoo spiked with Peppermint Schnapps! KILLER!! Something I wasn't expecting.. we walked out of Able Baker and headed back to our car. As we walked to the corner the door woman at the front exchanged greetings with us and next thing we know she taking us on a tour through the entrance way of Antlers down past the "Northern Lights and we sat at the bar under the Yurt. The menu is not like anything you've seen around town with lots of meads and strange drink combinations. I kind of felt a bit sad for our waiter for all he did from person to person was give long lengthy explanations of everything on the menu non stop. The inside is quite something to see with all the wood to the pelts and things on the walls. To be honest after spending a good amount of time at able baker we just didn't get a good feel for our offerings but all in all I would try them again when I'm more level headed and have more time to examine the menu better.
