I've been here twice; hands down, one of the best speakeasies I've ever been to in my life. The vibe is very much 1920s prohibition era, with ornate decor and dark, mood lighting. They have couches and lounge chairs to sit in, as well as a traditional bar. The bartenders are pretty much magicians. They have a couple of different variations on an Old Fashioned, and my favorite is the Butter Pecan Old Fashioned; it's smooth and velvety on the tongue, with an incredible flavor. When visiting Las Vegas in the past, I have always had a fascination with hidden speakeasys. I have visited several along the Strip, though my buddy recognized the entrance to this one as another one. We were simply walking from Mandalay Bay to Luxor (or perhaps it was the other way around). We passed a number of restaurants and stores along the way in the Shoppes area. Then, we see a sign for the 1923 Prohibition Bar with two barrels, a curtain, and a shelf with a sign saying "Prohibition has ended. Push to enter." I guess it really wasn't too hidden but most people wouldn't have taken the time to explore the sign like my friend and I did. We pushed and entered. We immediately entered into a rather dark but festive area that felt right out of the 1920s. There were plenty of tables, most already with people occupying them. There was a bar and several servers walking around. We found a space at a table right next to where the entertainment was only minutes away from performing. A server quickly asked us if we wanted anything though being already late in the evening, we were just taking in the experience and weren't ready to order yet. We sat the bar and Jose was our bartender. Round 1 was off the menu and were very delicious. It felt upscale yet comfortable, and the décor did a great job transporting you back in time without feeling overdone. The drink menu leaned heavily toward bourbon-based cocktails. I opted for a rum-based drink instead, while my friends tried different options from the menu. Unfortunately, we all had the same takeaway: the drinks were very sweet. The sweetness overpowered the spirits, and in my case, I couldn't really enjoy the flavor of the rum because it was masked by sugar. While the cocktails were well-presented, I would've preferred a better balance that let the alcohol and other flavors shine through. Walking through the bookcase to enter in to this space truly transitions you in to an upscale old timey speakeasy. So many details in the environment you can stay for hours just enjoying the surroundings. We did go for the ghost stories, so we were led out of the main bar on to a back room with even more beautiful decor. Cocktails are available and I would suggest the temptress. Good spot to chill with speakeasy vibes, good drinks, and live music. This location is easy to find in the Mandalay Bay shops, right next to the minus5 ice bar. I had read online that on Friday and Saturday nights 9:45 pm to 1am, they have live entertainment and a burlesque show, so I made a point to come by then. It was busy but not too crowded Friday night around 10 pm when we arrived. We got seated immediately. As far as the live entertainment goes, there was a guy playing the piano and singing, plus a female singer who went up to sing a couple songs as well. There was also a dancer who danced her way around the whole bar while slowly stripping. I enjoyed the whole vibe and all the music and performances. For drinks, they specialize in bourbon cocktails and old fashioneds, but they have other cocktails and some zero proof drinks as well. My friend got the pineapple chipotle mule ($20) and I had the mocktail Summer On the Wagon ($12). My friend's drink was okay, and I found my drink a little too sweet. Went to see Ghost Stories at 1923 Prohibition Bar. Show was AMAZING and that is what my 5 stars is based on. When we arrived, the host outside seemed complete uninterested and we had no idea where to go or what to do for our show reservation. So we just walked in and tried to find someone to help us. She brought us back out to the hostess stand who then got us checked in. They took us to the back room and gave us our drink while we waited to be moved to the showroom. The drink was fine...the drink I ordered for intermission was much better. While we waited, we had overpriced (typical for Vegas) chips and snackboxes. It would be great if they had more selections to choose from. But forget all of that because what really mattered was how good the show was. He performed his magic in such a cool way and totally went with the vibe. And the venue is super small, so no bad seat in the house. If you enjoy magic shows, this one is a must! 1923 Prohibition Bar is cool and nice on the inside - probably worth checking out, but I definitely recommend seeing the show. read more

Loved the ambience of the 1923 Prohibition Bar. My wife got a Barrel Aged Old Fashioned and I got the Butter Pecan Old Fashioned. Both were great - hers was a standard Old Fashioned with all the standard flavors and nose that make this drink a classic. Mine however was exceptional. It wasn't typical and the blend of the butter pecan syrup, Elijah Craig, and Agostura bitters and the proper measurements just came together perfectly. I will definitely try to replicate this drink at home. So damn good!! read more

We visited this speakeasy behind the bookcase entrance to see the Ghost Stories Seance Show starring magician Kent Axell in the back room. The bar itself is an intricate maze with plenty of intimate spaces to relax, drink and talk. The decor fit the theme and the staff and service were great. The show was an amazing performance reminiscent of the travelling seance shows of the early 1900s. Kent's flawless close-up magic and immersive acting takes you back to the time of the "dark seance" with a modern twist. His interactions with the small group made you believe he may just be "psychic" but it is just a show, or is it? I have been to many magic shows in Vegas and I was shocked to learn we were there two hours when it felt like one.
