What's a pleasant surprise to find in Gainesville, Texas. We were in town for a racing event at Eagles Canyon raceway about 15 miles away. We decided to go to Gainesville instead of Decatur. So glad we did. This was a delightful Mexican restaurant. Loved the guacamole made tableside to our specifications as well as our entrées. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with cheese. Highly recommend it alongside my dish was also beans and rice. My husband did the sour cream, chicken enchiladas, and cleaned his plate. Fresh tortilla chips and a delightfully yummy salsa. Staff was attentive and efficient. The restaurant itself was decorated in a lovely contemporary mode and was clean. There is also outdoor patio dining available. Looking forward to visiting this location every time we come to the Eagles Canyon Raceway. read more

Villa Grande never disappoints. I had the Steak con Hongos, which tenderloin steak cooked medium rare and topped with mushrooms, poblano peppers and Monterrey Jack cheese. Along for the ride were rice, charro beans, quac and fresh pico. The steak was cooked perfectly and all the flavors worked really well together. Our server was prompt and attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant. Not too much noise. I'll give 5 stars, but the salsa seemed more salty than usual. Still great though. read more

We tried the brisket tacos, they were excellent. We also tried the Platillo Norte, which was very good. The salsa is homemade and they have a second one that is darker, the chiles are roasted in that one. Absolutely delicious. Also, try the mango frozen margarita with salt rim, oh so yummy! Fish tacos seemed like frozen fish sticks. Poblano Grande Burrito had all ingredients unevenly distributed. Charro beans had no flavor. Regular salsa was bland but the spicy salsa was great. Took a while to get seated even though they weren't very busy. Waiter not very attentive. The ambiance is very nice and it is clean. We'll start off at the first thing, was not greeted at the front by the hostess. It was Valentine's evening at 6:30 I still expected to be greeted, this place was not very full still had multiple empty tables. We're excited to eat at this place I have been told by others it was okay. The server we had (Luke) did fine. He took our order, items for a starter of Mexican shrimp cocktail, this should have been listed in the entrees, as it was served in a 20 oz schooner Beer Glass, and brisket tacos, and my fiance ordered some combination platter. They arrived at our table in under 5 minutes, not long enough for them to be freshly made. So when I ordered the shrimp cocktail, my server asked me if I had ever had that before I said yes not here, I should have pursued it further. When I received this shrimp cocktail and tried it it was not as expected it seems it was made with canned ketchup and some vegetables and shrimp. It was the worst thing that I had ever tasted. I returned it my server told me at that time that it gets returned very often. This was removed from my bill. I will say the brisket tacos we're pretty good not very hot like everything else on the table My fiance's plate and food was not hot it was warm. We finished dinner and was asked if we would like dessert. I never had fried ice cream before, so I thought I would try that. My server suggested I try something else as the ice cream was old and stale and rolled in stale cereal and then fried. He said it was not very good not recommended. So he got me a bowl of ice cream which I probably was the best thing that I ate last night. I hope my server finds a new restaurant to work for, because he did a good job with what he was given. My recommendation is to find a different Mexican restaurant to eat at. read more

Everything was very nice, and the food was delicious. We had a variety of enchiladas, a burrito, and chicken quesadilla. Rice and beans were tasty. Fresh was salsa yummy! Chips needed salt. I really liked the cheese enchiladas. Churros dough isn't made in house, but they stuff them with caramel and it was very good. Our waitress was super nice and prompt. Come hungry - the portions are huge! And, I might add, very tasty. The fajitas come sizzling on a hot skillet. My favorite way for fajitas to be served. The Chile relleno is one of the best I have had - stuffed full of meat and cheese and deep fried in a yummy batter, then smothered in a light sauce that doesn't overpower it. My favorite thing here is the beans. Thin (not chunky) and full of flavor. So good! The service was very good as well and everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our order was brought out fast and 100% correct with all the extras we asked for. My only complaint - they serve Pepsi instead of Coke. Blech. Lol We had a very good experience here, left stuffed and happy, and brought home enough leftovers for two days. Will definitely be return customers! Good is always good and service is usually spot on and attentive. Their sweet tea is great. We usually get the fajitas. They are always great. The salsa is good, I would love a more homemade chip. They are sort of dry but the rest of the meal and staff make up for the lack of amazing tortilla chips. The margaritas are good also. This is a go to place for us. read more

Grabbed a bite here as were were passing through G'ville. The restaurant itself is very nice and probably one of the nicer ones that I have been in around Gainesville. Food was good, but not great. It certainly didn't match the expectations that the decor set. Service was not that good overall. It seemed our server was preoccupied with things other than work. It wasn't busy when we were there, but our table and the table next to us, who had the same server, both seemed to have to flag her down for everything. Maybe that was why the food wasn't up to the quality that the other reviews mentioned. Food sitting under a heat lamp in the kitchen is just never going to make a good impression. Would I try them again? Sure. Perhaps this was a one-off and next time around we get a more attentive server and that could make the difference. read more

This is definitely the nicest looking space in town now. The open-air seating and beautiful decor and awesome bar put it up like ten notches above everything else in Gainesville. The food was good, but not life-changing. The chips and salsa were way better than I expected, but the queso isn't worth it. I had brisket tacos that I will absolutely go back and get again, and the service was good. My only complaint is the seating. It seems like a quarter of the tables and booths were in awful locations behind pillars and well out of view of the main area. Feels a little crammed in. Me and my mom absolutely love this place. We try to go every other week. I absolutely love their in-house made tortillas. Everything is always fresh and they have always been accommodating for us. We often order the Tableside Guacamole and Fajitas, which is always delicious, makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The staff their is so kind and funny. We feel like we are with a great family every time we are there. If you've never been, you need to stop what your doing and go get you some of their amazing food! read more

I have been there multiple times and usually order the taquitos. They are crispy and tasty and the beef ones are better than the chicken. Today I thought I'd try something new. I decided on the chicken enchiladas suiza. I should have gone with the usual. The chicken was dry, some shredded as it should be but some were big chunks. There was no sauce in the chicken or over the enchiladas unless you count that white blob on top of them. Whatever it was, the blob wasn't tasty. It's as if they made them and forgot them in the oven. As far as taste, they were bitter, maybe it was the dry green sauce? I've had these at other restaurants and they are usually delicious. My advice, stick with the taquitos. read more

I ordered the Carne asada with a cheese enchilada. The meat was so tough I couldn't chew it. I requested cheese as a topper on my enchilada instead of chili con carne. They added so much greasy cheese that i couldn't see the enchilada. By the shape of it looked like half of an enchilada. So disappointed in my dish. The salsa and queso were great however. That is if you want to pay $67 for salsa and queso. And that was for food only, no drinks. Threw my dinner away. read more

This was a better than average Mexican restaurant. The ambiance was good, the service was prompt and friendly, and the food was delicious. I started with a made to order margarita that was very tasty -- I had an order of guacamole that was delicious, it was more like a fresh salad with two scoops of guac on top. The chips were good, but the salsa was too liquidy for my taste. I had the tamales as my entre and they were very good, as were the rice and beans. I will definitely go back for more. read more

Waited far too long for everything from being seated to our drinks (tea & soda), asked twice for ice since the iced tea had none, requested more salsa 4 times, seriously, & finally got more when we were 90% done with our meal. We were never checked on our asked if we needed refills. Requested the check twice & then asked for a manager who never came to our table. It was a Tuesday night & not that busy. We witnessed other tables getting multiple refills on drinks & salsa.
