As long as your expectations are in check, this place is ok. It's not gonna change your life but it's sushi in Gainesville. The quality of "sushi"has gone down hill but the beef udon is still good. Probably best to stick to rolls with deep fried fish or shrimp. The gyoza and mochi ice cream are nice treats. If you want real sushi, drive 30 mins to sushi motto in Denton. Food was pretty good. Service? Nope. I came with a cousin and a friend of mine. Friend ordered Chicken Hibachi and made it pretty clear to our server that he was allergic to shellfish. We didn't realize the Hibachi came with two pieces of shrimp. Hibachi came to the table and had shrimp on it. We asked politely for the dish to be re made, which was met with hostility. The manager and server tried to claim we did not tell them about the allergy, and then tried to claim that shrimp was not shellfish. They claimed shellfish and shrimp were different things, that shrimp is "seafood". They begrudgingly remade the dish, but from then on there was a passive aggressive tone towards us. Surprisingly good. We had Chicken katsu and it was very tender and tasty. Their Katsu sauce was more like a teriyaki sauce, but was also very good. We enjoyed 4 rolls, salmon, yellow tail, California and volcano. All were definitely on par. I was pleased with the volcano as the spiciness was not overpowering. Update since my last review... One of the things I mentioned was that the sushi was not traditional. They have Denice updated their menu to include a much greater variety of dishes to choose from. It was a Sunday evening and showing up to Fuku at 9pm was rolling the dice because the place was closing in 30 mins. Even though they told us they were closing they still let us stick around for a quick dinner after a long drive. They did seat us without hesitation and provided some hot miso soup with our meal which was a kind gesture. Since this was a quick dinner, we didn't get a chance to try the other items on the menu. We just ordered sushi (salmon and tuna rolls) and those turned out to be very fresh. Just browsing around I noticed they have a hibachi grill which is operational during lunch and dinner service. Looks like a fantastic place if you want to experience some grilling. Prices are really reasonable and the place is conveniently located by the highway. read more

Conclusion: a nice surprise to find really good sushi in Gainesville. Lunch is definitely the time to go as the prices are really good. Pros: fresh fish. No smell. Great clean taste to all the sushi we ordered. The staff were very friendly and accommodating as my wife has very particular wants to her maki rolls. Cons: interior is a little bit austere and industrial. Maki menu is not very extensive. Prices for the special rolls are much much higher than the standard rolls. read more

Fuku Japanese Grill never disappoints us. They have wonderful Japanese cuisine. Fuku is our go to date night for sure. Gainesville is very fortunate having this little gem in our town. When we go we get the works. Sushi, sashimi, nigiri, with steak and seafood habatchi. The sashimi is always fresh and cut thick. The salmon sashimi melts in your mouth like it should. The steaks are always cooked perfectly and my nigiri sushi rice is the perfect temperature. I even love how they plate their food. Very colorful and yummy looking. The chefs are great as well. I love the sushi chef. He does not skimp on his seafood while making your sushi. We always ask for Mia to be our server. She remembers our orders from previous visits and how we like to be served. One course at a time. Last night she was off but she still went the extra mile and waited on us. We make an evening of enjoying our food and adult drinks. Then the main meals were the any 2 rolls lunch special( spicy tuna and spicy crab ) and the other was the Filet Mignon with scallops. Let me tell you. Very nice people running the restaurant (at a first glance). For an expensive meal; Fuku might come in at half the price they charge ($14 vs $28) and that's giving them a leg up. The fillet was over cooked (I requested Medium Rare and got Medium Well). The Scalops were over cooked, broken up, and rubbery. The fried rice seemed like it was made that morning and they scooped it into the plate rather than make it fresh. The veggies were even undercooked! I can not choose to come back until their Hibachi Area is operational and that might be a stretch. read more

We actually follow a no/reduced salt, oil, and sugar regimen in addition to trying to eat whole foot, plant based food. The positive points first: 1) good hot tea **** (maybe it was oolong), both the 2) cucumber roll **** and the 3)veggie roll**** were good. 3)Veg. Yakisoba noodles *** were only so-so as was the 4) Pad Thai Veg. ***. Actually both seemed to be the same noodles to me. , but whatever. Both noodle dishes were swimming in oil which was unnecessary and distracted from the flavor. Also both dishes had egg in them which is a no-no. Shockingly excellent hibachi in this small town an hour and 15 minutes North of the Fort. This was a game changer for me when it comes to daily lunches.
