It's time for a much needed *updated* review. Villa Meola truly just keeps getting better. The toy rotation keeps my kids occupied when we are there and excited to swing in for an amazing coffee (IN A REAL MUG) and my favorite (the one and only) breakfast pizza. Villa Meola has become the safe haven of my mom friends and mine. A refuge of sorts where our kids can be kids and we can breath easy as we are reminded they have not just a right to be in the public, but are wanted there. The toys are so creatively organized with wall hangings and baskets. Recently, we have been invited to a birthday celebration and even had a small one of our own and Villa Meola hung a simple banner that really made us feel so welcome. They are getting so inventive with both the food and drink while sticking to their strict clean and simple/ minimal ingredient food standards with their authentic Italian tastes. Midnight Taco has moved in which creates a very unique and fun curation of cultures and families but it's fun! Still just so grateful for a not so hidden gem to enjoy. read more

We stopped by Villa Meola Coffee in Gilbert and enjoyed our visit. The shop has a fun, colorful atmosphere with lots of character. The coffee was just okay for me, but the baristas were super friendly and welcoming, which definitely made the experience better. Stopped by Villa Meola Coffee for a quick breakfast while running errands in downtown Gilbert. The wonderful husband and wife owners, Michael and Callen, greeted me and took my order. They took the time to go over the items with me and answer some of my questions. Villa Meola Coffee shares a space with another biz and the other biz was doing some construction at the time of my visit. Regardless, the space is welcoming and family friendly. They even have a play area for kids. Callen mentioned that "The Hot Italian" is one of her favorite drinks. It comes with espresso, hazelnut cocoa syrup, calabrian chili, and cocoa. I love spicy drinks, so it was easy to convince me especially since they make their own syrups. I opted for iced with almond milk. I also ordered a vegetarian breakfast pizza. The drink was good and the flavor was subtle. The vegetarian breakfast pizza came with eggs and cheese on sourdough bread. It was tasty and filling. Before heading out, I spotted a little shelf with locally made crafts and products for sale, which added even more charm to the café. I will be back! read more

This might be my favorite coffee shop and I've been to so many, I wouldn' be able to count. There are several things going for this shop. 1) You're welcomed like they really value your patronage. From the helpful info provided to the welcoming and friendly service 2) They make all of the food and syrups there, and no inflammatory oils 3) Unique and delicious drinks, my wife and I both agreed some of the best tasting drinks we've had. She had the cannoli latte and I had the orangecello cold brew.. I'm a sucker for coffee and orange flavor, my favorite combo. This will be my new stop when I'm up in the area. read more

My girlfriends and I checked this place out this weekend and were so impressed! It has the cutest vibe, an amazing variety of gelatos and what we came to try....the cannoli latte! Served with a lil bite size biscotti it was delightful. I got an iced short, with a little less milk bc I really enjoy the taste of espresso and it was perfect. It wasn't overly sweet and the service was friendly and efficient. The outside patio is adorable and we will definitely be back to enjoy it in cooler temperatures. read more

My daughter and I stopped by this morning and absolutely fell in love with this little spot. We always order iced espresso when we check out a new place, because it's a good indicator of the quality of the coffee without being masked by sugary flavors. It did not disappoint! We also ordered a margherita pizza and a slice of lemon olive oil cake (made in-house) and both were divine. To top it off, the owner, Michael offered top-notch customer service. He brought our food and drinks out to the cute/comfortable patio which is very family-friendly, and made sure we were happy with our order. My only suggestion would be to improve their signage. We've driven by this place a dozen times and never even knew it was there, but now that we've found it we'll definitely be back! read more

First time trying today!! It was super cute upon walking in and it's a shared space with Midnight Taco! I ordered the iced cannoli latte and it was super yummy!! Tried the cannoli latte hot. It was amazing my son had the affogato also great but man the last sip of the cannoli latte was the best. We also had the ham and cheese biscuit and the breakfast pizza both really good. Service was awesome and they have a great seating area both inside and outside. read more

I couldn't recommend this coffee shop more! The owners were so nice and took the time to explain the different drinks. I gave them an idea on what I typically drink and what I like and they were able to provide mod suggestions to tailor the drink to my liking. I decided to stop by this little coffee shop while running errands and wanted to step outside of my comfort zone by trying one of their summer drink specials. I ordered the Arancello Latte, which features orange, vanilla, and orange zest. It was definitely unique, and I'm glad I gave it a try. While it wasn't bad at all, it's probably not something I would order again. I tend to prefer strong, bold coffee flavors, and the citrus notes in this drink softened the coffee taste more than I typically enjoy. That said, if you're a fan of lighter, sweeter specialty lattes with a refreshing twist, the Arancello may be right up your alley. read more

OH MY GOD! We are visiting from Carmel CA to see our family in AZ for the holidays. This coffee shop is awesome!!! Everyone is so kind and engaging, there's plenty of space inside and out, and the kids can run and play freely. But my favorite part is the coffee and food. Being Italian, this was a must. I tried sooo many lattes (I had to!!) and they were all excellent. Everything is made from scratch using amazing, high quality ingredients. The coffee flavors are complex, but not overpowering so you can actually enjoy the espresso. The food is the same- home made and beautiful quality. I love this place so much and wish we had one in California!! Will be back, for sure. read more

Super cute and amazing service! They explained their flavors and made syrups, offered up favorites based on what we liked and delivered on the coffee! While we were there we noticed a big group of moms and toddlers come in and enjoy the space with a cute play area for toddlers. Somewhere in the parenting handbook there is a missing chapter titled "where to go when your child has feelings and you have a caffeine deficit." Michael and Callen Meola read that missing chapter, sighed deeply, and just built the place themselves. Villa Meola is a coffee shop that feels less like a transaction and more like being waved inside someone's actual home, because that is essentially what it is. They named the spot after the nickname for their own house, and you can tell. The kids drink menu (yes, a real one, with a "Kiddy Winnie the Pooh" that my child now demands by name) means small humans get treated like guests instead of obstacles. Big humans get traditional Italian espresso pulled on a manual lever Astoria machine, which sounds like a flex because it is, there are roughly seven of these in the entire state and the result is a crema so silky it should be illegal before 10am. A few things to know going in: * Order the Cannoli or the Caprese latte. They make their syrups and milks in house and you can taste it. * Get gelato from Gelato Cimmino next door, same room. Mario Cimmino is the real deal, and the affogato situation here is the most efficient delivery system for joy in the East Valley. * Focaccia pizza is sneakily excellent. Treat it as lunch, not a snack. * Bring the kids. They will not be the loudest sound in the room and nobody will side-eye you. This is the entire point of the place. The ambiance of the place is amazing. Nice family owned little shop, brand new in a prime location! The gorgeous weather in the morning makes for a perfect little place for coffee. Got a delicious cherry cold brew with mocha, as well as a delicious scone. The coffee was perfect! Not bitter, not too sweet at all, nice coffee flavor. The scone? Fresh and practically melted when I took a bite. The customer service was great! They brought out the drink to the patio and everything! We've been here twice. The first time, the play area was inside which was nice. I forgot what flavored coffee we ordered, which usually indicates that we weren't necessarily blown away. We are coffee snobs, so we have pretty high standards. We returned a second time. The play area is now outside since there's a new taco shop setting up inside. My wife and I both ordered the Cannoli coffee concoction. We weren't impressed at all, especially given that we were told that it was their best seller. I got the hot version, and all it tasted like was warm, lightly sweetened milk. I couldn't taste the coffee, cinnamon, or any other ingredients supposedly in it. It wasn't until I got to the bottom that there was some unmelted chocolate syrup of some sort. My wife got the iced version. She wasn't impressed either, but noticed that the chocolate was solid too. If it wouldn't melt in a hot drink, then obviously it'd be worse in a cold one. The main complaint is really just about the weakness of the coffee. For me, $7 for a 10oz coffee drink that tastes like warm milk is enough for us to not try it again. I also think that they should use a less solid syrup for flavoring so that it mixes well hot or cold. The service is awesome, so no complaints there. The environment is nice and welcoming too, especially since they have the play area for the littles. read more

Met a friend at Villa Meola for a coffee break from work and selected this location by chance because it was a midway meeting point for us. I was a little apprehensive with it being inside a gelato shop but we decided to give it a go anyway! We met the owners Michael and his wife Callen and had wonderful conversation learning about the beginnings of the coffee shop and some of the origins and thought behind flavors and menu offerings. I love the HOUSEMADE flavors and Italian theme of Villa Meola - the unique, and seemingly odd, flavor combinations totally work! I tried the Panettone latte because I love panettone and missed out on having some of this holiday season and my friend decided to try the Caprese - I definitely smelled/tasted a little bit of tomato soup on the front end and a delicious, slightly acidic but balanced latte on the back end. They have an amazing and versatile outdoor space that welcomes families and customers of all ages. Perfect location with an amazing setting and such fun flavors. I really wanted to like this place. Great location, cutest little play area in the back for kids, smelled delicious walking in but the woman working the counter was insanely rude today. I understand being a business owner and feeling upset that I brought in a coffee from a competing shop, completely valid, but I ordered a pastry before sitting down to play with our friends. Minutes later said woman comes over with a snarky comment about not bringing other coffee in. It could have been handled in a much nicer way but her emotions about the other coffee shop took charge of the conversation. Maybe change your sign in the front to say no outside food or beverage rather than for patrons only because at that point I was a patron.
