OMG this by far exceeded our expectations. I actually saw this on social media and when I came to visit family in Arizona, we decided to make a day out in the east Valley and this is one of our stops. I have been to this downtown location many times before for other restaurants and honestly, I did not notice this coffee shop/bookshop. There's parking directly out front, but there's also a covered parking structure adjacent to the location. Inside, there is counter seating right against the barista/ordering area and it is surrounded by books of various genres, etc. and there's also some gifts to buy. Great tunes. Very helpful staff. The bathroom is fantastic. We ordered the iced date latte and the iced banana cream latte as well as the iced tea of the month. We prefer the iced tea over the latte to be honest. It was a pomegranate, vanilla iced tea. Although popular the iced latte in the iced banana cream latte were a bit underwhelming. I don't know if it lacked sweetness or flavor overall. They both were OK but if they did not stand out as extraordinary. I did purchase a few gift items as well. I would definitely come back if I was in the area lots of comfortable seating as well in a work area for people that have computers. I can see why it's all over social media. Great overall aesthetics, great selection of beverages and pastries, comfortable workspace.
I have been to many coffee shops in my time reviewing on yelp and this is definitely a Hidden Gem in Arizona! The Bookish Shop is an amazing place to study, grab coffee, or even just to browse around for books. Their specialty Cookie butter coffee with cold foam and a sweet topping is as delicious as the atmosphere is inviting. Staff is friendly inviting and fast with orders. 100% deserves 5 stars.
Absolutely obsessed with this bookstore café. It has everything I'm looking for in a study spot! There's plenty of space to study both inside and outdoors on the patio, which makes it super easy to settle in for a productive session (or stay way longer than planned). The second you walk in, you're surrounded by a romance book-lover's dream. The ambiance feels like stepping into a cozy Hogwarts library. It's warm, magical, and the perfect place to get lost in a book. There is also a vintage-style Photo Booth that will print out two photo strips for $5! I also love the story behind this place starting online and growing into a physical bookstore that now carries such a fun variety of books, plus the cutest hip and trendy merch (hats, book pins, shirts, and more). The coffee is good, and their menu is surprisingly extensive. I ordered the cookie butter latte and was genuinely impressed by both the size and the taste. On top of all that, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Whether you're looking to study, find community, or just yap with fellow book lovers, this is such a fun and inviting space!
I'm not a big reader, so I'm sure this place will absolutely kill it for any book worms. The vibe felt mainly for the booktok girls though obviously not restricted to that. They sell books, nicknacks, coffee, and even have a photo booth which was cool. It prints out 2 sets of three pictures for $5. The coffee I tried was the banana pudding coffee with banana milk. It sorta tasted like banana, mostly just a milk forward coffee. Just based on personal preference, it was a bit too sugary sweet for me, not as much of that coffee flavor coming through. The cashier was sweet though and even talked about a TV show with me that she noticed on my shirt, which is always nice and welcoming. Worth checking out.

On our first visit, we got two specialty drinks: Banana Pudding ($7, Banana bread base with vanilla cold foam and topped with vanilla pudding swirl): Maybe it was because I had the oat milk substitute but it didn't taste too strongly of banana. Blueberry Pancakes ($7, Blueberry milk with blueberry purée and topped with maple cold foam): I knew this drink was going to be amazing because how can it not? If you love blueberries, you can't go wrong here. It's a great space. The vibes are 100 with plenty of seating. It's in a great spot in DT GIlbert so shop, have lunch, and then end your day with a nice beverage.
Met up with a friend at Bookish Shop today and it was such a cute spot! I've been wanting to check it out for a while after seeing a few videos about it on Instagram, and I loved the vibes. It's a combination bookstore and coffee shop, which makes it a really fun place to hang out and browse for a bit. The space itself is adorable with plenty of seating, so it's easy to sit, chat, read, or get some work done. The menu has a lot of options including espresso drinks, matcha, energy drinks and teas. I ordered the banana bread latte and it was absolutely delicious... I'm still thinking about it. They even had a photo booth, which was such a fun touch. Overall it's a cute and unique spot and I'd definitely come back!
The coffee was delish and the atmosphere, although not my style, was definitely super creative. Kind of gothic, Harry Potter-ish maybe? It doubles as a book shop, so you can shop while you sip. I wasn't a fan of the service, though. They were pretty standoffish and rude.
Was in the area and figured I'd check this place out! Parking is limited right out front but they do have a parking garage next door, as well as street parking. Super pretty interior, tables of books and cute merchandise! So many things to look at and buy for yourself or someone else. Originally was hoping to try one of their espresso drinks, but they were unable to do any espresso drinks due to their machine not working. Pretty bummed out but decided to try their Banana Pudding Chai with oat milk. It was pretty sweet but had great flavor. I believe if it was the espresso, it would have cut the sweetness which would have made it more my kind of coffee drink. Lots of seating to do work or just relax. Pretty quiet inside as well. Plan on coming back if I'm in the area to try more of their drinks!
On April 4, 2025, a corner retail space in Downtown Gilbert welcomed a new tenant. Formerly Arcade One, this L shaped suite is now a charming gift/ bookstore. Justine Woods, a retailer who started a subscription book only business has expanded into a brick-and-motar location. Books, unique gifts, book themed coffee beverages and food are tastefully displayed. A stroll through the store will show you the detailed designing that went into creating this inviting space. Offering mainly fantasy and romance books, I see why females make up most of the clientele. Cute outdoor tables and chairs welcome patrons as well as a long coffee bar with seating. I enjoyed the iced death incarnate ube drink. ($7) Made with pistachio syrup and ube cold foam it created a unique flavor! I'll be back.
A great cafe for those interested in reading books while sipping on your drink. This shop has a book theme with plenty of options/genres. As far as the drinks, we ordered the banana pudding matcha and strawberry matcha. Both were sweet and you can really taste the banana and strawberry. As for the matcha it's not great, I couldn't taste the matcha at all. The drinks were overpowered by milk and the strawberry/banana. If you're looking for high quality matcha drinks, this shop wouldn't be the spot. Aside from matcha they have coffee and teas. Maybe their other drinks are better? But this rating is based on what I ordered and my matcha expectations.
We came in for The Bride event and special drink. They had vegan options but no vegan cold foam. Its was only dairy. I would be a bigger fan with more vegan options including pastries! It was a well organized and clean space. An employee frequented the bathroom to make sure it was clean. This is always appreciated! It can get quite busy. The space was organized the best it could for people to get drinks and browse books. I hope they do more events! I would love to see this business thrive. even Stevens was in this space prior and they did not do well, sadly. This space is cute. Support local. Owners- I will frequent more with more vegan options!

It has everything in one place from the creative coffee menu, bakeries, books until small gifting It's relaxing, quiet, and feels so comfortable at the same time. The drinks absolutely well balanced, not too sweet and strong coffee taste. The service is excellent and they know what's good in-house (ask the service for recommendations if you are unsure what to order) This place is a MUST to stop by and check it out. And you are the book lovers -- thai is your best choice!
Yes, I'm back again! How adorable are their updated themes!? Just so fun to see the valentines theme plus the offered merch! I finally tried their pastries that are from the great gadsby bakery. I got the brown sugar poptart. It was pretty sweet & i'm not sure if there's an option to have it warmed up because I wasn't given one, but it definitely needs to be warmed up. I got the death incarnate again and this time it didn't hit like before so that was a bit disappointing. Not sure if it's dependent on the person that makes it. Friday at noon place is pretty packed inside, outside seating is plentiful and the ambiance is wonderful (just the current construction bringing down the mood lol) The have shades that come down outside to protect from the sun and I love that thoughtfulness! Guys I'm not sponsored here, I genuinely enjoy just come sitting here

Went to an author book signing and this place was amazing. The store is decorated antique style. Great selection of books. It has a drink/coffee/pastry counter. Long bar area with stools to enjoy your drink/food. They also have a cute selection of items like necklaces, rings, shirts, book related items. I bought a cute necklace that said READER on it. The author event was organized and ran seamlessly. Such a great experience. Staff so nice. I will definitely be returning. read more
The Bookish Shop is a newer concept where a bookstore and cafe co-exist together in the same space! This spot is located in a plaza with a solid amount of parking spots. When you walk in, you can either get in line to order some drinks and pastries or you can start browsing their book selection. Definitely a really cool concept with a nice book selection for all readers as well! read more
I've been here a couple times but never got the drinks. I think the setting is amazing. So fun to come with friends or on your own and sit at the bar area or inside/outside. Lots of seating. I ordered a chai and they use a spiced mix. It's good not the normal Maya chai you see at most coffee shops. They also have energy drinks so I'd say this is a typical "quick" coffee shop style where you shouldn't expect in house flavors being made or anything and very sweet drinks (which I love). I got an almond croissant which was delicious. They get their pastries from the Gadsby Bakery I believe. They're so good. The service was so friendly and we got our drinks so quick! read more

The shop has been open 9 months now So I figured it was time to visit. I always wait until the newness and crowd die down. Wow, it is so much cuter than I even thought. I thought it would be more coffee so and sparse on books but it is the total opposite. We visited around 10 on a Saturday morning. It was buzzing, but the line was short and quick for a treat. There are so many books to peruse. It's all romance and fantasy, not my genres, but this is the place that would make you become a romantasy girlie! The decor alone is gothic and gorgeous, from the tiled floor to the dark corners, there is whimsy everywhere. There are a few tables, some plush chairs, and lots of bar height seats. Besides books to purchase, there are bookish sweatshirts, stickers, candles, bookmarks, jewelry, and charms. This is a magical shop that you can return to again and again. read more

Like the Yelp description says, it is a cozy bookstore and coffee bar with whimsical decor focusing on romance (not like Danielle steel Fabio romance, think dark. lols) and fantasy. So if this is your jam, def a must for you! I like that there is free parking out front and in the garage next door. If you don't like dark romance and fantasy genres you will prob be disappointed if you are looking for say a thriller or self help book. Lols I walked in not knowing this and I'm soooo not into romance and fantasy. Well I liked Harry Potter but this stuff looked different. I saw fantasy, dark fantasy, dark romance and a queer genre section. But it's ok, it was fun to look around and enjoyed my drink. There is a good variety of coffee, tea and specialty drinks on their menu. They also had some baked good in a case next to where you place your order. They also have a lot of book related accessories like totes, pins, shirts, stickers, candles, book marks, etc. Check out their website to place orders too and make a ressie for your next book club inside the shop. The shop was full when we came on a Friday around 11:30. A lot of people just plugging away on their laptops or chatting with friends. I only saw maybe two people actually reading. I feel like it would be too loud for me to read. We managed to snag a lil table on the patio though! I had the Death Incarnate - iced ube latte with a pistachio syrup and cold ube foam. It was good! My friend had the Bloody latte - white mocha with blackberry and dragon fruit cold foam. I really liked this combo and the fruity worked with it! read more

This spot is so freaking cute, I can't even begin to explain it. I wandered over after visiting Maeva across the street (also beautiful), and I'm so glad I did. I've been seeing it all over TikTok, so I at least wanted to take a peek inside, but I ended up ordering a super delicious gingerbread chai latte from their December specialty menu, and it did not disappoint. You do need to place an order to access their Wi-Fi, so I grabbed a drink and settled in to work for a few hours before heading to another meeting. It was the perfect little setup for getting things done. They don't have a big food menu, mostly pastries and I don't believe they offer any alcoholic beverages. It's mainly coffee and tea, but the vibes more than make up for the limited menu. It's also a bookshop, and a very cute one at that. I probably wouldn't come here to sit and read a book, but it's a great spot to meet a friend, enjoy a drink, or open your laptop and work for a while in a cozy environment. read more
This is a store that I never knew I needed - a coffee + book shop all in one. I love that they are open late too for a coffee shop. The vibes are everrrrythinggg! It's the perfect hang out spot - whether you just want a cozy place to drink some caffeine, browse books, look at cute merch and/or hang out with friends! I am not a big reader, but this place inspired me to read more. They have a ton of fantasy and contemporary books and really cool special editions. I was in awe at some of the book covers. First thing I did when I got home after my first visit to this place was to find my kindle. I'll definitely be back for the drinks and the ambiance. read more

Great concept. Slightly offbeat bookstore and coffee bar in Gilbert Heritage District. Great coffee and pastries in a comfy environment perfect for a meeting between friends or a date. Lots of tables inside and out and a nice long countertop with stools facing the coffee bar. Only nit I had was largest hot coffee was 12 ounces. Not sure why some coffee shops do this? Pastries are amazing. Had a huge chocolate croissant and there were a number of really good looking "pop tarts" I'll have to try. read more

I met up with a friend at Bookish just after 11am on a Saturday to check out the place for the first time and get some caffeine. The line was backed up to the door! It took about 10 minutes to get to the counter to order. I didn't see anywhere else to check out, so I assume it'd be the same line if you wanted to buy any books or merch. Also, it is cashless only payment. Their Fall menu has: Pumpkin Spice $7 Spiced Apple Butter $7 Salted Maple Pear $7 Caramel Apple Energy $6.75 The first 3 can be made as a Latte, Chai, Cold Brew, or Matcha. They do offer alternative milks - oat and almond. The cashier gave us a heads up that it'd take 10-15 mins to make our drinks since they were so busy - there were so many printed order slips on the counter. My Spiced Apple Butter Matcha and my friend's Pumpkin Spice Latte ended up taking over 20 minutes. In the meantime, we watched the Casper movie that was playing on the wall behind the counter via a projector. Our drinks looked great and tasted pretty good, though a bit too sweet for me. I was able to taste both the spiced apple butter and matcha, but the combination didn't really work for me. I liked the chill vibes and aesthetic throughout. Not sure that I'll be back, but it was a good place to sit and catch up with my friend over coffee & matcha. NOTE: There is bar seating, but you have to order your drinks at the register. read more

I live in Scottsdale and travel all around Maricopa and Pinal Counties for coffee with my friends. This coffee shop is in my top three favorites. You can't beat the environment. It's like a library that you're allowed to talk and laugh in! And the coffee.... omg the coffee. It's truly to die for. They have a very small collection of things to nibble on, so don't go hungry. They have a fun picture booth and a lot of wonderful spaces to sit alone or with friends. I will definitely go back even though it's a long drive for me. read more

I am not a fantasy or romance girl but holy cow is this place BEAUTIFUL. It's got a gorgeous coffee bar, amazing lattes and cold brew, and all the bookworm love affair items you could possibly ever want in life. I wish they had self help or thriller, but I understand their market. It is very quiet in here so I don't suggest you take a loud friend or date, but if you just want some peace and to not feel like you're in Arizona for the day, this is your place. A lot of people working on their laptops and it's nice and cool inside. They have instagram worthy accessories, too! Price is quite high but support your local dream! read more
Any kinda hybrid coffee shop/cute shop is right up my alley. Had wanted to try this place since it opened and wow what a cute addition to downtown Gilbert! Tons of books and cute little things like accessories to look through. Mostly romance books but they have YA books and fantasy, plenty to choose from. Love that they have a little Photo Booth here. Would be a fun place for a date or to hang with a friend! For my drink I ordered off the monthly specials menu, I got the cleopatra cold brew with oat milk. It had brown butter toffee, vanilla, and SPARKLES! Making it not only tasty but also pretty. I like minimal milk in my cold brew, I asked for only a little but next time I'd ask for even less. But still tasted really yummy. They were busy so there was a tiny bit of a wait but fun to look around while you wait. Clean bathrooms as well! Would totally come back here sometime! read more

I went to the Bookish Shop for the first time and look forward to going back. It is so fun to walk up to such a cute shop. It's very inviting. Once inside- seeing the shelves of books just immediately pulls you in to investigate them. They have beautiful displays- dresser like tables with little Knick knacks and book related accessories. The coffee/ drink bar is great- I tried a strawberry matcha and enjoyed it. Perfect flavor ratio- just right. The spot had great vibes, and it was so fun to see different groups of people gathering to read, discuss a book, meet up with a friend. They also have a shelf of books to sit and read while in the store and games to play. They also have a rewards program you can sign up for when you purchase a book! Definitely will be back! read more

We ordered ( to go) an iced cookie butter latte & WHET energy drink which is a kiwi & blue raspberry concoction. Both were excellent. The store sells a whole range of written genres. A friend of mine brought me here yesterday, and it was the best experience. The shop is located in downtown Gilbert, and because of that I was a bit worried about parking. In actuality, the shop is off the main strip and has a dedicated parking lot, so that was a nice surprise. This shop was everything I wanted and more. We're talking local books, popular books, booktok books. Hats, shirts, necklaces, broaches, stickers, enamel pins. I (sadly) didn't have a bajillion dollars so I couldn't get everything I wanted, but I will absolutely be back to continue growing my collection of weirdly themed spicy books and merch. Price wise everything was fairly typical, with speciality books costing a bit more (understandably). 10/10. You won't regret stopping in The Bookish Shop. read more

Came to check this spot out finally and it's sooo cute and pretty inside! I think this will be one of my new favorite spots to hang out at. The drink was delicious and vibes just perfect for someone who loves coffee or tea and be surrounded by books. The Photo Booth was a cute addition too. read more
I was so excited to finally get to come see this book store and coffee shop as I don't make it to the area often. I came in this last weekend and it was so busy for a Sunday, I was shocked! I hit the coffee spot first. I'm always timid with trying a new place since I don't really eat/drink sugar but shockingly the girl was so sweet (hehe) with helping me get a matcha latte with sugar free strawberry! This made my morning. I even told her sorry for being complicated and she was like it's really no problen, we have options for a reason. I would go broke if I lived here. They had books in YA, dark romance, fantasy, paranormal and nicknacks. They did offer special editions, which I'm guess are left overs from their book subscription books. Visited hot & new biz, The Bookish Shop back in April. As an avid reader and a coffee lover, I was very excited about this shop's opening and couldn't wait to check them out. The Bookish Shop took over the old Level One arcade space and totally revamped it to match their unique vibe. I love the decor; it's fun and whimsical. They have a coffee shop inside that serves coffee, tea, snacks, and more. There's ample seating indoor and outdoor. I started my experience at the coffee counter. The barista greeted me right away. I ordered my go-to an oat milk latte with honey and cinnamon as well as a pop tart pastry. The coffee was decent and I appreciate their options. Once I got my treats, I set off to explore the rest of the shop. In addition to books, The Bookish Shop sells book-themed accessories, home goods, jewelry, and more for book lovers. I believe the book shelves are organized by genres. I noticed there were a lot more fantasy books than there were any other genre. I suppose that's what's trending right now. I love psych thrillers and found their selection to be lacking. Their selection and options are definitely catered more to fantasy book lovers. I'm not into that, but I could see myself returning for unique book gifts! read more
