Reasonable -- not cheap. You get what you pay for. The first shop I visited was on the high end of "reasonable," so I kept looking. My search ended the moment I walked into The Branded Barby. The owner told me everyone in the shop had the skill to handle my design, but she highly recommended Mary, a young artist she was mentoring. Her pricing was right in my range, so my last question was simple: Can she handle the shading? I got an immediate, confident "Absolutely." I booked with Mary, and she reached out about a week before the appointment asking for the artwork. I sent it right over. When I arrived on tattoo day, she was ready for me -- professional, prepared, and clearly passionate about her craft. She walked me through all the technical details and then showed me the touch‑ups she made to my design. Let me tell you... I was blown away. Her improvements elevated the artwork beyond what I imagined. I even asked her to send me her version because it was that good. Four hours later -- and yes, it hurt -- Mary finished. I was already impressed, but she wasn't satisfied until every detail met her own high standards. That level of pride and precision is rare. Her shading was cold, clean, and absolutely on point. She didn't just meet my expectations; she crushed them. I was ready to book my next tattoo before I even left the chair. Do NOT sleep on Mary. Her skill, her eye for detail, and her dedication to the craft are top‑tier. If you're looking for an artist who can handle serious shading and deliver beyond what you imagined, she's the one.

The studio itself is very modern and professional, with wooden floors, comfortable seating and ample space. The walls are adorned with pieces of art by Zera Anderson (who owns the joint and tattoos). Also, it is a small business owned by a local resident of the community. Over the summer, Jodi (who owned Ink For Life, formerly down the strip) is in town doing work, which long-standing customers are happy to take advantage of, but the majority of the year Zera herself is the only acting artist. This means two things necessarily - first, there is generally a wait time between when you come in to make an appointment and when your appointment actually is; second, Zera is talented enough to warrant being the only artist working out of the studio. Of the six tattoos I have, she has done five and they are each elaborate, unique and incredible. On many occasions I have been asked to pass on "regards to my artist" on behalf of random bystanders who saw them and were impressed. If you want quality ink done, Brite Idea Tattoo is definitely worth checking out. If you don't live nearby, it would still be worthwhile to travel out to visit. I have no doubt that I will have many future inking adventures here.

Woman owned and doing incredible work, the artists here (Zera who owns it, along with Janet and Sarah) are absolutely phenomenal and do brilliant work. Their custom pieces are miles beyond anything you could have imagined, and their beautifully created flash pieces are stunning as well. Great for first timers and those covered in ink alike, I cannot recommend this place enough. I usually see Sarah, and she is particularly good with those who are brand new and/or those who have chronic pain (like me!) and may need accommodations, extra breaks, etc.

I used one of the best in Ann Arbor for my 2 but they would not even talk to me except by email when I tried to even get an appointment to come in to talk about my idea. Told me their weekends were booked until November. So after looking at Yelp for a local place, I called here. Told I didn't have to have an appointment to talk and they are open on the weekends, I came in with my idea. Given an appointment for the next Sunday and left my ideas for the artist. But that artist had to cancel due to Covid so the shop worked to get me in as quick they could. I came in on a Tuesday after work. My artist, Andrew Heithecker, was excited and had the library card catalog drawer drawn out but wanted me there to get the cards and the dragon tail right. He hit it on the Head. He could even get the numbers on the cards with marks for the words. Andrew worked quickly and pulled the colors he knew would be the best. Less than 2 hours later he was done and the price was more than fair for the amount of work he put in. While I probably won't get another tattoo, I will recommend this place and artist to others who want a great tattoo. Since I posted pictures of my tattoo on a weird librarian Facebook page and it is a big hit, if any of those who live locally might want to come here also. Clean shop, safe procedures, and many different artists.
