TJ was my artist, and I could not have been happier. He was referred to me by someone who had just gotten her first tattoo, and she had nothing but praise. I drove from Northern Michigan to Livonia (where I grew up) to have my tattoo done. I have had dozens and TJ is probably the lightest touch I have ever experienced. He is personable, drew my tattoo himself, and did not rely on pre-drawn flash. I will be back. Oh, the appointment process was simple, and the shop is very clean and welcoming. It is not like I have been to too many tattoo shops. My younger brother owned one for years and I visited many times. I used one of the best in Ann Arbor for my 2 but they would not even talk to me except by email when I tried to even get an appointment to come in to talk about my idea. Told me their weekends were booked until November. So after looking at Yelp for a local place, I called here. Told I didn't have to have an appointment to talk and they are open on the weekends, I came in with my idea. Given an appointment for the next Sunday and left my ideas for the artist. But that artist had to cancel due to Covid so the shop worked to get me in as quick they could. I came in on a Tuesday after work. My artist, Andrew Heithecker, was excited and had the library card catalog drawer drawn out but wanted me there to get the cards and the dragon tail right. He hit it on the Head. He could even get the numbers on the cards with marks for the words. Andrew worked quickly and pulled the colors he knew would be the best. Less than 2 hours later he was done and the price was more than fair for the amount of work he put in. While I probably won't get another tattoo, I will recommend this place and artist to others who want a great tattoo. Since I posted pictures of my tattoo on a weird librarian Facebook page and it is a big hit, if any of those who live locally might want to come here also. this was the worst tattoo experience I've had. I have 14 tattoos and I've never been sent home with dry paper towel and told to put lotion on a fresh open wound. 2 days later I inherited an infection on my tattoos i had to get put on antibiotic. not only that the guy was heavy handed and went to deep it's left scarring and discoloration on my nipple tats. they used to have good artist but the white guy with the beard in the left room is horrible!!!!!!! Was super disappointed with how this turned out last year (April 2023) . I went back and tried to have her fix it but it didn't turn out again. It was worse after going over the whole thing with a thicker needle. Thickness of the lines was just not consistent. I wish she would have said she wasn't able to do fine line work tattoos. I've been here a few times for small tattoos without issue... That was until today. I emailed and communicated with a (con)"artist" named Cheryl. We confirmed and set an appointment for 12pm on a Wednesday. They even called to CONFIRM the appointment the day prior. I arrived as scheduled, filled out the forms and waited...and waited...and was eventually told by the receptionist "I'm not sure why she isn't where yet" So I waited longer and was then told "oh, she isn't coming in today because she isn't feeling well" I can understand people get sick, and things come up....BUT WHY NOT TELL ME BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT. Instead I wasted HOURS of my time waiting for someone who was never even going to show up! Complete joke and waste of time. (Con)-Artist Cheryl is a hack! And Eternal isn't much better. I was nervous come the day of my appointment and let me tell you how absolutely wonderful, welcoming, and professional Cheryl was from my first email, throughout my appointment and right up until I walked out the door. I'm very very happy with the beautiful art she gave me! She worked at a steady pace with little to no pain (I have a high tolerance) and often checked on me to make sure I was comfortable. This shop is very unprofessional. Came in here about 2 months ago to get 3 very simple tattoos.. 2 Kirby tattoos one for me and my best friend & a yin yang... thinking those would be simple enough designs anyone could do them right? WELL I MADE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE ASSUMING THAT! first off the women at the front desk told me was rude from the very start, told me In a very rude tone I couldn't talk on the phone while I was in the waiting room? What sense does that make I'm in a waiting room? Then told me I seemed like I was messed up because I dropped items out of my purse trying to get her my ID to prove my age. In my opinion a front desk employee of a tattoo shop should be polite and greet the customers to make them feel comfortable. Now to move on to the tattoo artist DENNIS. He failed to tell me the price of my tattoos until I was already halfway done with my 2nd PEICE WHILE I WAS IN THE CHAIR !!! if I would have known he was going to charge me $100 for a simple Kirby tattoo & another $100 for a yin yang? And $80 for the 3rd Kirby tattoo on my friend ???? I would have Walked out that shop instantly ... you would think after purchasing 3 tattoos in one session you could get a much better deal than that. Plus a better tip for you as an artist. maybe If it was out of this world quality I wouldn't be so upset because like they say ... you get what you pay for Especially with tattoos! So I decided to give this artist a chance . BUT NOT IN THIS CASE !!! boy did I let this go on for too long. During my session I felt the most uncomfortable pain I've ever felt getting these tattoos. Keep in mind I have about 10 tattoos and my friend has too many to count. We both have never had to look at eachother and say "damn this shit fucking hurts man". It felt like he was going insanely deep. I came back in the shop the 2nd day after getting the artwork done because I was so appalled on how they were healing. I was in excruciating pain, the tattoos would dry our instantly after putting aquafor on. IT WAS ONLY THE SECOND DAY AND LOOK AT HOW THESE TATTOS TURNED OUT. When I came in to express I was not happy with how the artwork that has been put on my body FOR THE REAT OF MY LIFE and I wanted some kind of refund of my money back because these were not worth what I paid for. I could have done a better job doing these tattoos myself. (I've used machines before) the artist Dennis instantly told me no, wouldn't even look at me in the eyes or even at what kind of damage he had done to my body. Not to mention the very rude front desk lady from before came back screaming at us trying to kick me out saying I was stupid for touching my tattoos and that's why they look like crap, when All I was doing was trying to point to her the flaws. I refused to leave until someone professional enough in this shop coils understand if someone is not happy with how a tattoo is on their body something needs to be done. Sorry hunny but you are a front desk lady, not a tattoo artist. You should be fired. Anyway, the only somewhat professional person finally came out to diffuse the situation. basically just told me to come back when they're healed and he will fix them for me since I refuse to go back under the needle by Dennis. But for some reason every time I would ask any of these people " do you honestly think these are well done tattoos worth what I payed for" they wouldn't answer a simple yes or no question. They said it just seemed like I didn't know how to take care of a tattoo. But little do they know I'm a tattoo apprentice and months before I even put my hands on a machine my mentor taught for for months making me me read books on how important the healing process of tattoos are etc. To conclude. I came back about 2 months after my tattoos have healed. They still look like shit. I'm un happy and want them covered up honestly but since there is a chance of them being fixed I decided I'll give another artist a chance like they told me my only option was. Well I wasted my time once again to be told they still look like they need to be healed ????? What in the world it's been about 2 months. This shop fucking sucks read more

I went into this tattoo shop not really having a preference on who did my tattoo. I had received all my tattoos back in college and this was my first time getting one outside of silly college tattoos. I had an image in mind but wasn't 100% sure of what it would look like. Cheryl was assigned to me and I am SO THANKFUL. she took a pixilated photo and turned it into perfection. it made me tear up before she even put it on me. I went for my 1st tattoo with TJ at Howell, he also works at Livonia. He was awesome, super gentle and made me feel like I have had 20 tattoos before. I will def be going back to him. The tattoo was special to me, I had to put my soul mate of a dog down and the cremation people made me a print of her nose and upper lip. He knew this was important to me and it turned out exactly like the pic! Now she will be with me forever and I can book her nose whenever I want. read more

This review is specifically for TJ! Back in August, TJ acknowledged me waiting outside and asked how I was doing and if he could help with anything. I did not have an appointment that day and was not sure what their Covid protocols were, so I hadn't checked in yet. When he approached me I told him I was looking to get a small, three-word phrase, and he said come on in. I wrote down my information and within ten minutes, he was all set up to give me my tattoo in which he was very attentive to my preference for lettering and font size. The tattoo was done quickly, and I knew how experienced TJ was by his reassurance to me that the one layer of the piece would be best for staying solid and not getting blurry over time. He compared the new piece with other body art I have on my body to give more insight as to why the single layer was best. I chose this tattoo place because they seemed to have good reviews, especially Dennis. I learned that reviews don't necessarily mean much, because my experience with Dennis was terrible. I paid for my appt to be at a certain time, they tried to cancel bc apparently he needed to leave early. I tell them there's no other night for me, and I'd have to cancel if my appt didn't work out. They told me they'd move things around. I get there, and Dennis didn't even come into the building until 15/20 mins past my appt time. He then tells me why everything I want can't work. My sister was with me for support, and she said we could walk if we didn't like this place. Dennis heard and proceeded to say: "well I thought tonight had to be the night." I've never been treated this rudely at a tattoo shop, this is my 3rd tattoo. I finally concede to the design he said would work best, and he then spends a good hour to set up. Finally I tell him beforehand that I'm not great with pain, and he tells me "you made this appointment." Jesus. I almost passed out from pain from my second tattoo and the women there were incredibly supportive. He continues to be rude and show attitude until he is done. When he finishes, he doesn't even put a bandage on me or tell me I need one. Also, I haven't had a tattoo done in years and never one on my leg so I didn't think about it, but he didn't even shave the spot on my leg before he started. It's been 2 days, and I know it's still healing, but it looks like shit. Spotty and he dug into me very hard. Interestingly enough, he trashed the tattoo my sister just got, and did an even worse job on mine. He was so rude and unprofessional that now I find myself torn on whether or not to even go fix it, I don't want to deal with his attitude. read more

I recently got my first tattoo over the past weekend at Eternal. I was referred to Trent, through my brother-in-law, and the whole experience was excellent !! Trent made himself completely accessible to my many "first timer" questions. He was willing to go through each individual item, and make sure all details were to my satisfaction. I love this place!! I have about 15 tattoos and a handful of different piercings (not talking just ear loves) and I have always had great experiences. The shops are clean, the piercers/artists, are friendly and they are not SUPER expensive. My 16 year old daughter just got a tattoo for her birthday and it turned out great. Cheryl explained everything to her and calmed her nerves; she was fantastic. Doug has been my artist for close to 10 years now and I have always been happy with his work. When asked, I recommend Eternal everytime. My one complaint is one many people have had, the front desk person. I have had some good experiences with them (friendly, etc), but more often than not, they are rude and act like you are being an imposition when you ask any sort of question. Since that has little to do with the quality of work being done or the cleanliness of wch artists space, I didn't deduct any stars. He worked so hard to get the song lyric quote I wanted just perfect enough for my small arm.... Small enough to fit.. But big enough letters so they won't blow out in the years to come.... I have received 5 different tattoos from Trent Thompson and he is AWESOME! I also had him fix two of my old tattoos that were messed up (my fault for going to a second rate tattoo shop when I was quite a bit younger) They are clean, friendly, and hilarious. It is a really good idea to make an appointment to make sure that you are able to get your tattoo on the day that you would like. Also, not all of the artists are available on all days. You may be able to walk in but it's a better idea to make an appointment. It may be on the pricey side but, you get what you pay for. I want awesome tattoos so I'm willing to save up for it and make sure that I'm always going to get a great tattoo. After getting two tattoos at other places, I have realized that quality is where it's at! read more

I have been tattooed three times by the lovely Cheryl Tash, and I have always been more than happy with her work. Cheryl is thoughtful about her designs and has a light hand which is great when you're getting tattooed in an uncomfortable spot! I have recommended her to several of my friends and family, and will continue to do so. The shop is clean and the rest of the staff is very talented as well, I would say you're in good hands with anyone you choose to tattoo you. The fact that they are open seven days a week is great if you work an odd schedule like I do. The price range is on par with good tattoo work these days. I never mind paying for good work as I don't think this is an area that you want to cut corners. You know what they say, you get what you pay for! They take cash or credit, but if you want to leave a tip on your credit card, you have to mention it before they run the card. there is no tip line on the credit card slip like at a restaurant. So we started browsing the regular selection with the intent on paying full price for a tattoo when we overheard an employee tell a different customer that they were in fact doing one.... not saying it was a black and white issue... it was just pretty peculiar the the answer changed so quickly. read more

Jay Wheeler is amazing! He does beautiful intricate work & makes it an almost pleasant experience because he is so laid back & just puts you at ease - its like hanging out with an old friend! All of the artists here are very talented and level-headed, personable people. All of my tattoos have been done by TJ, but I've seen seen work by every artist there and it's all very good. The place is very clean, and makes for a comfortable setting when getting a tattoo done. When it comes to price, you get what you pay for. Eternal may be known to be a bit "pricey", but the work will definitely reflect the price. Although, in my opinion, the prices are very reasonable. My only complaint is a small one, and it's that the girls who work the front desk are often rude and are too caught up in looking at their cell phones then actually doing their job. Though, this is a minor complaint, luckily you'll only have to deal with them for a few minutes. Overall a great tattoo shop, the only one I'll go to. Nice, clean facility. I've had multiple pieces done and overall have been satisfied My main gripe is the person who answers the phone. Rude, argumentative and poor people skills to be taking calls. I'm sure she deals with alot of flakes but to treat a long time, repeat customer the way I've been treated on more than one occasion is ridiculous. I've gotten thousands of dollars of work done here - two full sleeves, two large leg pieces, a sizable back piece and a huge chest piece - and drive all the way up from Chicago every time I get the hankering for more work. Kevin Lytle, my artist, does amazing original designs: I start with a concept and source art (mostly comic-book stuff) and he utterly transforms it into something better, different, and yet still true to the spirit of what I was looking for. I got my nose pierced a couple weeks ago (right before they had to stop doing under mask piercings again) and I wish I remember the names of the two girls that were in there. They were so incredibly nice and very helpful! The girl that did my piercing even suggested moving it forward so that my glasses didn't block it. Completely unprofessional shop. The lady at the front desk clearly doesn't know she's at work and doesn't know how to treat anyone that walks in with respect. The artist I got a tattoo done by, Dennis, gave me the patchiest color work I've ever received. Went over my outline with color, so it pretty much looks like he scribbled on my leg. Have to get it touched up for it to even look like it was done by a professional. I definitely will not be back to let anyone in that shop fix it that is for sure.
