The size of this charming spot does limit its collection somewhat, but it's still rather well curated. Optimal for a quick browse and find a summer read or nice gift for a friend or to kill a bit of time on a cloudy lake day. I found quality gifts for family in my two visits here--both in the popular or literary book vein as well as local interest books. The charm of shopping for books in a log cabin or perusing a sale rack on the deck is just off the charts. The selection is good but a bit limited by the spot's real estate. I personally kind of wish so much of the store wasn't dedicated to kid's books/gifts--the setting feels more appropriate to the mature literature--but I can understand the choice. Owner is very friendly and happy to chat about book recs or the region. Only weekend hours during the off season, and will be closing for the winter but opening again for the spring.

They have a section of used books for a lower price along with a cafe. They even sell records. There's a full section of greeting cards, stationary, planners, notebooks etc. Plus a small section with Vermont touristy/souvenirs. What's not to love?! They also have a cafe. I did not get a chance to visit it since I was happily overwhelmed by all the books. The third floor has the children's section which has colorful decorations, as well as cards, trinkets, journals, and vinyls for sale. Northshire has friendly employees who were very helpful. I am pleased to report they have a large used book section on the second floor. I will definitely be visiting this charming place more often!

I was amazed by the large layout and selection while browsing. The display areas are engaging and have you stopping to look every few feet. I found books for myself, as well as a Father's Day gift for my husband thanks to a specific display they had with Father's Day ideas. I loved the vinyl section, the horror selection, and the large graphic novel area. They also had some unique art books on display that I had not seen anywhere else. At one point I was looking for a specific title and the employee was able to help me find it. When checking out I learned they had been here for 13 years and the first shop is located in Manchester, Vermont. I was given a 10% off coupon and told about their online shop. I love supporting indie bookstores and spent a good 30 minutes shopping around. Very happy with my purchase. This is a bookstore you won't want to miss!

They had a lot of different style books. They also carried vinyl which I thought was great. I would've actually purchased a few of them, but the drive from Saratoga to Connecticut would've worried me with vinyl in the car. The folks at the bookstore were very helpful and very friendly. I've gone more towards digital and audible books in my older age but can still appreciate a good…read moreold locally run used book store. My wife is more old school and took me by here on a friends recommendation and as I entered the space I was transported to my childhood when I didn't have an iPad and Amazon wasn't around. I remembered how my love of reading was nurtured in places like this where I discovered Zelazny and Tolkien and Moorcock for the first time. Where I discovered a love for all things science fiction in books like Lucifers Hammer and the Uplift Trilogy. Where I read about any subject I wanted from the history of the black death to the Occult writings of Crowley, Lavey, and Starhawk. The used book stores of my day were the fertilizers of my imagination as a kid and I had in many ways forgotten, or at least allowed them to slumber like Rip Van Winkle until awoken anew by the musty smell and creaking floor boards of this new reminder. I remembered how so many of these books have been taken and then returned to in turn be passed on to future generations. It warmed my heart to know there are still places like this around that manage to make the business model work. I had largely assumed that they were all gone to be honest. The owner, Dan, was knowledgeable and able to assist my wife with some recommendations for new reads. If you go here be sure to ask about the purple bucks which are basically a a paper rewards program in the form of purple paper money you can spend at the store. Also, be sure to call ahead before going to pay a visit. Dan is semi retired and so the store could be closed. Especially on a Monday.
