    Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure

978th different cheesesteak in the last four years. It was morning so I got the JoJo, steak, egg and cheese on a long roll. This cheesesteak was easy to eat. The roll was fresh and had a nice glaze on it. The meat was juicy. The eggs and meat were mixed nicely together. I wish there was more cheese and a better melt. At $7.75 this was a pleasure to eat.

rolls are great, not too crunchy and not too soft! ingredients are fresh and proportions are solid! great hoagie! I get no meat in my hoagie so it's just veggies and cheese and they don't over do the cheese and keep it just right!

    the location of the restaurant

Yesterday I showed up a couple minutes after 7:00 in the morning and found the front door locked. Inside, one of the new staff pointed to her wrist and shouted through the glass "8:00 o'clock." Of course, as a man of leisure who is never hungry in the morning, I'd be happy to wait an hour for a bacon-egg-and-cheese. It didn't used to be like that. When we opened a new office in Jenkintown I was delighted to discover the Village Deli. So much better than a national chain with their anemic hoagies slapped together by a indifferent knuclehead who'll be gone in a month. The owner -- I think his name was Nick -- could take your order, cook the food, and ring you up (all while opining on the state of politics or what's wrong with tonight's starting line-up). A fresh breakfast sandwich (not a microwaved egg at some chain) usually took under two minutes. Nick used to get in early and you could pretty much count on a breakfast sandwich anytime after 5:00 a.m. At lunch they used to drop off sandwiches at our office about a mile away within minutes. Sadly, Nick retired. The new owner now has a staff of five to replace him. When they aren't standing around looking confused, they're stumbling over each other. Where Nick could make six sandwiches at a time, the new grill-person makes one. at. a. time. While you wait. And wait. I called in a lunch order last week and the voice on the phone told me "uh, yeah, um, I don't think we have anyone to deliver." Undaunted, I drove down the street. Waiting forever for a hoagie, another old regular made eye contact, shook his head, and mouthed "not the same." He's right. Nick's gone, and it's a damned shame.

Cheesesteak Hoagie- I've had better at a hospital cafeteria before.

Get sandwiches here frequently. The bread is great, the staff friendly and I've never once gotten bad food here.

There's a lot to share about this newly renovated space. It holds multiple pop-up style…read morerestaurants, a craft brewery, and eating space to enjoy your food or beverages. What really makes it unique is the fact that you can place your food order and then go grab a craft brew in a plastic cup and then walk back to get your food. Or, if you prefer to bring your food to the bar area, you can do that too. We had a hankering for burgers and wanted to give Lucky's a try. I'm glad we did and it was an enjoyable experience. We ordered a share basket of fries which were perfectly cooked crinkle fries. They had ketchup available as well. We each got a burger, one classic and one Oklahoma style which had two patties. The classic had more of a Kaiser roll whereas the Oklahoma had a potato bun. The meat was fresh, not frozen and cooked nicely on a flat top. The onions on the Oklahoma were sliced incredibly thin but for some reason were not soft enough to bite through (my only disappointment). It's easy to find as the doorway is right down from Rita's on Ridge Avenue. Give it a try!

Since they are not open for lunch during the week I made sure to stop in on a Saturday in November to grab a burger. Normally I'm a burger purist but on this trip I decided to go with their Oklahoma Onion Butter Burger and a side of fries. I paid via credit card when I ordered.(they were not accepting cash). After about 10mins or so my order was ready. The burger has (2) patties and onions. Flavor was on point but the overall size of the burger was small for me. I could have easily eaten two of them. The side order of crinkle cut fries was equally small and they were just warm. Overall the meal was good and I would eat here again. However if I'm craving a top notch burger I will probably choose one of the other options in the area.

On top of that, my pretzels were not ready. There were three males present who looked at me through the glass door and proceeded to engage in conversation. One of the males was counting the money from the draw and appeared to have some difficulty in doing so as it took him over 20 minutes to count what appeared to be a small amount of money. During this time, five more customers arrived to be let in the store which continued to be locked. After 25 minutes, the store was unlocked by one of the males who proceeded to talk rudely to the customers. When asked for his name and the managers name, he asked "why?" He then went on to gather trash around the store, push the trash down in the trash can, and then handle the trays that the pretzels are baked on without washing his hands or putting on gloves. When his unsanitary actions were brought to his attention, he stated "but you keep coming back for pretzels right?" and smirked. The management of this establishment needs to be more diligent with who they hire to represent their store as well as revisit the health and safety regulations set in place by the department of health and food administration. If you really want a Philly pretzel, drive the extra 10 minutes and go to the next closest one in Abington where the staff knows how to treat their customers and are sanitary!
