This is truly a hit & miss stop on my thrifting route. I stop here only when in the area.

The service, the quality, the prices (high for crap), the staff and even the smell are just of the reasons to stay away from this one.

This is what Lost Eras(in Rogers Park, and I eventually need to redo my review of that place) would…read moreprobably be like, if it had 2.5 times more space, plus an outdoor area(just off of a left side door past all the TVs) to sell even more stuff(though the most interesting stuff by far is inside). This store was seriously like combining the most interesting retro things you'd find in someone's basement(more like the most interesting items of all the basements you've visited), and displaying them all in a very huge space. All the previous reviews are right-on about this place being great. Looks deceptively small when you first enter, as you only see the main room, a 2nd room just behind that room, and a side room filled with LPs/music/books/etc. at first. But when you go to that second room and realize there are several more rooms behind that door(albeit these rooms aren't air conditioned or heated at all, unlike the main 3 rooms), then you realize how much hidden treasures are here. And this is the ONLY caution I'll give about this place: the bathroom(in the back half of the place that doesn't have a/c or heat) isn't in the greatest shape, so I'd suggest finding one somewhere else if possible, unless you have to go very badly. I believe the staff lets you haggle on prices at least somewhat(but not sure to how much of a degree they allow this), since I overheard someone at the register and a customer appearing to do that before I began exploring the back rooms. Glad I didn't rush my time here, and savored exploring this store. Can't wait to return to this store at some future point. *NOTE: Closed on Sundays*

I'm taking one star off because I go here all the time and I've noticed that the prices are…read morebecoming like that of an antique joint and it's NOT an antique joint. It's a SALVAGE shop. Big difference. I'll pay higher prices if the picking-over and searching and digging are done FOR me. I'm getting to the point where I don't want to come anymore...

Bought a beautiful vintage Philips turntable from Illiana Music listed on Reverb. This was at the…read moreend of February, 2020. The turntable arrived a later... ..but was completely destroyed, because the heavily weighted platter had not been secured, was easily able to lift off the half inch tall spindle, and acted as a wrecking ball to demolish the tone arm, snapped off the tone arm rest, cracked the stylus, broke off the needle, inflicted massive gauges in the top platform off the turntable, and was able to damage mechanical components to the point of rendering it a total loss. My loss of well over $100 was not great.. ...but much more sad was that a beautiful, 50 year old piece of classic hi-fi history had survived graciously for decades.. ...only to be senselessly demolished because of a simple lack of effort (and respect) to pack securely. All turntables have a provision to allow you to lock the springs, remove the platter and place it under the cabinet to prevent this damage. Very simple and takes all of 2 minutes. The shipping box had no damage... ..it's just that during handling, if not held perfectly still at all times, the platter will lift and freely bounce around inside the dust cover... ..and the platter is nearly 75% of the entire turntable's weigh and will easily bulldoze anything it can reach... ..and it certainly did just that. I wrote Illiana Music about the total destruction immediately, then several more times with no response. In May (3 months later) I finally received a response that the owner had a death in the family and someone else had been handling selling and shipping. As much as I can relate to loss of family, Illiana Music had no problem taking my money but not taken responsibility for their neglect and failure to deliver what I paid for... ..have they made any effort to compensate my total loss of money I gave them. I've written twice since, it is now going on 4 months, no further response and I've lost well over $100.. due to Illiana Music's complete negligence, zero customer service, zero responsibility for losses because of their poor service, and totally ignoring my communication. Hate to say it but.... WHATEVER YOU DO, ***STAY AWAY FROM ILLIANA MUSIC... FAR AWAY!***

I stumbled upon this record shop by accident last week (right by the Lansing airport) and was kind…read moreof taken aback. I have no idea how long they've been in business, but this place is a must considering how few record shops there are in the south suburbs. They have an extensive selection of LPs as well as used audio equipment. I had my eye on a few uncommon (but not super-rare) records and found them within minutes. Unfortunately, they were all $10 each, which is higher than I've seen anywhere else. I'm not an expert on record stores, so maybe that's not crazy, but I was a little shocked how many records were in the $7.50 to $10 range given their conditions. (There are also $3 and $5 records, but not as many.) $6 each for CDs is also pretty insane. So I'm docking them one star in that regard. Part of the charm of a record store is the crusty employees who are more than willing to give their opinion on what you listen to, regardless of if you've asked for it. Rest assured, the lady working there was pleased to tell me she hated one of my favorite bands. That ticked me off, but she does know her stuff and happily offered some suggestions of bands I might like that I've never heard of.

This place is always well organized and staff is friendly. Large accessible parking lot which is definitely a plus. I have found some really great finds here from clothes, winter jacket, shoes, scarves, hats to a beautiful red Christmas wreath that I've gotten tons of compliments on! Recently stumbled upon a glass chess/checker set that was a great conversation piece when I was in line checking out. I Love coming here because I always find something great and good quality. There was once a beautiful wedding dress on a mannequin when I visited there so someone got a great deal on what looked like a new bridal gown. I look forward to my next visit. Great place! A++!

I never come to Salvation Army for a plethora of reasons, but this one just adds to my resolve…read more I found a watch. checked it out. It seemed OK. I paid for it. before I even left the store while I was trying to put it on my wrist it broke. the arms literally crumbled at the hinge. Said they can't give me my money back and if I wanna find something else in the store I can, but if I wanted to find something else in the store, I would've brought it up to the register with me. Plus, I didn't have time to dig around that store looking for something I didn't really want nor could they give me an I owe you or a gift card or something for a later date. So I ended up just giving them my money and leaving because that was my option. Robbery.
