I should have read other people's reviews about the pricing. Took me a while to figure out the two colors of the day had to be under $4.99 each for three items to get the $1 each deal (despite sign saying $1 total). Otherwise you get charged the tag price for each. So I threw in something I didn't want and will donate it elsewhere. The cashier flies thru the checkout and keeps the receipt. No visibility into the pricing being put in. Inventory is good except not organized by size. Was only looks for kids stuff and had to go to the very back on one side then cross the chaos to the other side of the store for boys. It's pretty common to find girls stuff in boys, like sweatpants. Literally zero sweatpants on girls or boys side and no tights for girls. Weird. All jeans or denim material. Since two carts can't pass at the same time in an aisle without catching hangers on items etc, I left mine at the end out of the way. I literally got yelled at by a worker because she thought it was abandoned. I didn't even argue! Just looked at the rack she was hanging stuff on. But the chip on her shoulder told me she has a habit of doing this without questioning nearby shoppers. The shoppers, however, all seemed genuinely nice and the parking lot was huge. All in all, I won't be back even if I lived in the area. Too stressful and didn't have what I want despite the massive amounts of items. Management rude, inconsiderate and poor customer service. Was at register ready to check out,management took cashier away from checking me out to show her where she should clean. Inappropriate, inconsiderate and embarrassing. There were customers gathering to check out also. Some of us dont have the time to wait unnessasarily in line to check out. Manager should of waited till all check out customers were taken care of before manager takes cashier away for other duties. read more

I walked in this store on Thursday evening to my surprise. This location in Hammond Indiana who serves mostly minority community .Has a confederate flag for sale. I inform the minority manager it was offensive and should be taken down. She tells me she will tell her daytime management. I politely ask her do she know what it represents. It's offensive to all minorities she explained she will tell her manager. After stressing my complaint she took it down. However she was not happy. I'm like it's offensive to your people as well. When I left I'm sure she put it back I'm sure I won't be back to shop that store. They prices are sky high now anyway . The American flag is on the floor off to the side out of view. read more

Fuck this place! They find all of the stuff that you actually want when you come in here and over price it for the highest sold on eBay prices which is absurd. It is a thrift store not a boutique. They get everything from donations and make 100% profit on all of the items. I seen a few T-shirts that I want it that they had behind the counter for 180 each. I offered a deal to buy them all out and they were not budge on prices when they get them for free. Especially for the area they are in. I would not support this type of business. Vintage resellers have better prices than here going to Macy's has better prices than here. read more

I recently bought two dresses and a pair of gold sandals for events coming up. One tip is to wear a tank top to be able to try clothing on without a dressing room. Lol! Girl... this location of VDO is one of the best ones in the Chicagoland area, honestly. You have to know what you are looking at. Yes, there is a lot to sift through, but that is what makes VDO great. I've found some amazing things here and it is significantly less expensive than the city locations. Full of garbage. Overpriced for the condition a lot of stuff is in. I dug around for an hour & found 2 things. Didn't even get to buy them because nobody was at the checkout line. I waited 2/3 mins at the register & nobody came, so I went to get somebody. Rude teenager employee told me to "wait" while she stood around the aisle to talk to her friend. Waited another 2/3 mins and I peeped over to still see her laughing with her friend. No thanks. Favorite little thrift joint in NWI. So many gems but very disorganized so you will have to salvage through the racks. Can be a little overpriced at times but half off sales are pretty frequent. Overall highly recommend! I've gotten some of my favorite pieces from this place. read more

This is the thrift store I usually go to to find great cheap stuff! The prices have gone up, but at the same time I've found lots of great deals. It's even cheaper than a lot of the Goodwills and Salvation Army stores out there. It can be overwhelming going through the rows and rows of clothes, so make sure you have plenty of time. My husband hates shopping so I don't even bother asking him to come with me. I usually take about 1-2 hrs. and he wouldn't be able to last that long. When I go, I get there right as the door open up so it always clean and neat. But as the day goes on, people tear through that place so it does get messy. I only Speak English, but I haven't had the problems that others have said about the staff. read more

I stopped going here after they raised the prices and stopped cleaning. I was surprised to see everything a flat rate. The quality went down the tubes. I come out of there with my alleriges flared up from all the dust. The workers are just as bad at the customers---in your way, not moving. You cannot move a cart through here. The toys are strewn everywhere by kids parents are not watching. Kids running rampant thru the racks. Clothes on the floor. It's a dirty mess and I stopped going there. It's a shame, it used to be a great place.......... ADDING THIS: UH, excuse me, I DO have a full time great paying job, but as I said, this store was really good back in the day, and it's been let go! Here is a review from a typical broke teenage girl who is about to go away to college: I love this thrift store. What I have bought from here: I usually go to buy some of the basic, boxy shirts in the men's section because they are very casual for sleeping, going to the gym, etc. ANYWAYS, these shirts are extremely cheap, I'm talking $0.60 for a short sleeve shirt. Personally I only buy clothes from the men's area. I can find Columbia rain jackets for $3, Adidas button up vintage rip off joggers for $5, and Nike running shorts for $6. The good finds are there but they are hidden, so beware. I buy women's jeans too on occasion but it is never my goal when I go. What the clothing is like: The racks are VERY filled. Overflowing with clothes. This just makes for a good selections because the odds of finding name brands (as in Nike, Adidas, and vintage brands as well) are more likely. When I go I do spend about an hour just going through the Men's shirt and jean and jacket racks alone. It will take time to rummage through everything but it is perfect for those days when you have extra time. The clothing can range from worn shirts with a small hole or stain, to some clothing that still has tags on it from the department stores. There are "Better Garment" sections in the store too where I have found new Tommy jeans. The conditions of the clothing range drastically but the average piece of clothing looks fairly decent, like something you'd already have in your drawer. Prices: Very cheap as is. But everyday they have 50% off deals of select price tags. Example, one day will be 50% off for anything with orange, pink, and yellow price tags at checkout. The next day is different. Each day has different 3 different tag colors, it's random. However, every holiday typically has a store wide 50% off deal. These holidays are the average ones like Mothers/Fathers day, Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, etc. If no major holiday is that month, there are typically 2 weekends within the month that have the 50% store wide deal. No returns allowed though (is this typical for thrift stores?) The store itself & its workers: The workers are hispanic but speak spanish and english. This is very convenient because of the bridged communication. That being said, I only speak english when I'm there and I have no trouble communicating with any worker. The announcements come on in English first then Spanish, the signs are posted in English with Spanish fine print. If you are worried about not being able to communicate because you speak only English or only Spanish, you should not be worried. The workers are just there to do their job and nothing more; they aren't the friendliest. They don't greet you with a warm smile like they do at Chik Fil A but they don't curse you out. If you ask for help they help you. You have to admit though, it doesn't look like a fun place to work. The help you will get is what they honestly can provide for you as minimum wage employees. Be considerate. They don't refuse you service out of spite so no matter how upset you get about their policies it doesn't matter. They don't obsess over their job, they don't take it personal if you leave the store huffing and puffing. It's a thrift store, not a high end boutique. BUSY! The thrift store is always busy. Even when I go on a Tuesday in the middle of the day, there are still people there with crying kids in their carts. Not the stores problem of course, but something to keep in mind if you are the annoying type of person to get agitated at the smallest of inconveniences. Aisles are the width of a cart and a half. So 2 people going down the aisle with a cart are likely to have issues. Oh well. Keep your cart at the end cap or solve the problem simply by moving your cart into to the side when someone needs to pass. Overall: The thrift store is cheap, has good finds for those willing to take their time to look. Not very organized, but these type of homey thrift stores are where the deals are. I recommend going often because the items switch of OFTEN, so the following day can be a completely different store. Go with headphones, lots of time, and a good playlist. You'll leave feeling like you ripped them off because of the steals you found. read more

I have been shopping here for years & have seen changes. These stores WERE fantastic with the good prices, special .10 items, & friendly staff. Now no one speaks english, items are way overpriced, & unfriendly staff. Hammond In. location has lazy staff members who are never at the showcase & when they see you it takes them min to come over. If there is more than one customer the closest one gets served first not the first come first serve policy here. Isles have gotten smaller so now its impossible to pass another cart. Parents use store as a babysitter letting their kids run loose. Kids are playing with toys & leaving them where they want making it impossible to walk or push a cart through. We want to relax & shop not listen to your kids crying, screaming, or listen to you talking loud on your phones. please have some respect think before you act. read more

This Thrift Store become way Overpriced. No longer half day sales, they claim stopped doing that due to Covid19, just a excuse. Last straw was a Nintendo DSI XL priced at $200 and they think it is a 3DS XL. No box just console untested? I will have pictures soon on that. Then dollar store type of items priced at 6 bucks plus and even game cartridges priced higher then gamestore of course mostly old pretty much worthless sports games? Fake Nike Jordan's priced at $125 bucks and told them they were knock off and bad fakes at best, still had them up there the next week. T Shirt listed as vintage for over $100 bucks same T Shirt going for $19.99 on eBay and some not even vintage, even showed manager and she extremely rude and don't care, she think everything gold and pretended her time was to valuable to waste on a mistake she made on not even the correct item on label and price way off. I was a controller officer on a 175m company and always paid attention and took valuable criticism and made improvements. Sad thing is they are no experts and pretend to be and list stuff sky-high with zero knowledge on what they are pricing with zero care. That manager need to be humble and get off her high horse. I even overheard one the the managers tell a customer that was complaining about the prices being to high that she has Headquarters price the stuff over the phone? No they don't as they have the employees in the back look up the prices on eBay and they don't even get right models and price way higher then eBay. I know this as the manager told me herself and seen them as they put the stuff out from the back room which is open. I hate to wonder how people that donate to this place would feel if they knew that they were pricing stuff sky-high and most the money doesn't even go to charity as they claimed. Most goes to admin/overhead fees. Only Goodwill and Salvation Army that donate a decent portion to charities. Most these other discount thrift stores are for-profit and take advantage of loopholes and people. Vote with wallet and don't shop there, or don't support the high prices at very least. You be doing us all a favor. I use to love this place, now I don't as that manager way to stuck up and greedy for her own good. Hopefully store manager see this review and take into consideration what going on before store goes under. Stuff just going to sit for way to long waiting for markdowns if item actaully make it for 2 month and doesn't get destroyed by people handling item. All while overhead costs piles on and less and less people are going to shop there as little to no deals and less people are going to donate once they see prices. This place is usually packed, not just with customers, but also merchandise! It is a struggle to navigate through the chaos!! The lines are long. I don't really bother the staff, but they are always on a mission. This place can be a gold mine, if you have the patience to actually look though all the aisles!!! The Village is a very affordable thrift store that may be worth a gander. I have found Atari games galore here before. They have a real good Record section, with 48's, 78's, and 45's. There's a good cheap book section. Real affordable jewelery. I used to go here for clothes, but I prefer not to really anymore, after one time I picked up a t-shirt that appeared to have vomit on it. If you want to chance having a similar experience, they have t-shirts varying from about 10 cents to $1.50. Very few people speak English that work there if any, so there can possibly be language barriers but I've never had any. read more

I purchase a distressed coach wallet from their designer case with the jewelry. It was a really beat up old coach for ten bucks. They are overcharging for designer purses. Look at the pic of the same style blue wallet and it was pebble leather while the blue tag says 4.00. The blue tag was half off this day and it was 2.00. A long stretch for a beat up coach for ten bucks. They have not authenicated them nor do they take them back. Majority of customers are not spanish but the whole staff is and speaks spanish. Spanish music is played throughout....these are the most undiverse people ..their prices are way too high and i use to be a regular but i go when i am in the area. It is really sad that they have overpriced these donated things so high that we have to wait for half off day and people are literally standing in a long line outside. Wow.......this place was an experience......a horrible, horrible experience. It is located on a crappy Industry heavy street.....make sure that all of your hubcaps are still attached. (Does Indiana do ANY road repairs EVER??) Its a large space & it is PACKED with merchandise......which is always a good thing, right? Except when there is SO much merchandise that you cannot even push the clothes on the rack to look at anything. Just packed solid. They double up the racks......I could not reach the upper racks. The loop the shoes over the upper racks......they end up ALL over the floor. The clothes are over-priced.......with the amount of merchandise they have they should be MOVING MOVING MOVING the merchandise OUT!!!! The aisles are NOT big enough for carts and an average sized ass.....it sucks because everyone wants to bring 2, 3, 4 carts down an aisle......Cart people won......I gave up. One register operator and the line backed up into the already narrow aisles. I am certain there is great stuff here but I will never go back to find it. read more
