Have been going here for years. They have a great selection of plants. Most recently I requested a specific plant and asked if they could get it. It is a bit unusual, and wanted a larger size one, so I wasn't sure if they would be able to get what I wanted. Just 2 weeks later they called and said it was in and ready for pick up. The plants are exactly what I wanted. A few things to note: 1. They don't take plant orders, but they do take requests. I think this is because there is no guarantee they can get it. 2. You have to pay over the phone if you want them to hold on to for you. I couldn't pick it up for about 5 days so I paid over the phone and they held on to it for me. 3. They are a bit pricey, in general, their prices are a bit higher than other nurseries, but the quality is also very high. I'll definitely keep going here for my specialty plant needs. read more

Nice selection of plants but pricing is not always displayed. Received disparate information from employees. At checkout the totals can give you sticker shock. Fifty dollars for a small perennial is exorbitant especially close to the end of the growing season . Simply too expensive. Broadway gardens in South Portland is more reasonable with prices clearly displayed. Case in point: for the same selection and number of perennials total was $280 at Estabrooks versus $124 at Broadway. A huge difference in pricing. read more

We needed a few supplies for our island vegetable garden plus flowers to add to existing grave plantings for an upcoming interment. I asked for 6 packs of petunias but they sell only individual pots. I bought several. The cemetery has poor sandy/gravely soil but we tossed in a little fertilizer and watered after planting. The flowers have really taken off and are beautiful. I think this speaks to the quality of the product. The only other comment I can make is that the store had a tremendous inventory of gardening products. I didn't need much but I now know where to go next season. For years I've heard my mother in law rave about Estabrook's and now I know why. read more

I rarely leave reviews, but a recent issue with a garden consultation through Estabrook's warrants a response. I had gifted a consultation to a relative who requested a design that was low maintenance and highly deer resistant. Within a week of planting, deer had devoured three plants and significantly browsed on three others. My conversation with Tom Estabrook, owner of the business about this problem did not go well. Rarely, in my 50+ years as a professional have I encountered such defensive and dismissive behavior from a business owner. His immediate defensive response was they do not guarantee plants for deer resistance. I acknowledged that while no plant is 100% deer resistant, deer prefer some plant species over others. I noted several of the labels on the plants purchased stated "low deer resistance." Tom brushed these off as marketing by the producer. Isn't this false advertising? On several occasions during the conversation, Tom stated my relative could not be that concerned about the problem since they sent me (a 74 year old, gray haired female who paid for the consultation) rather than going themselves. (Would he have addressed a gardener of a high-end client in a similar manner?) He refused to reconsider the plant selection and insisted that Estabrook's had fulfilled their obligation. Haven't been to estabrooks for years. It seems like eons ago , I frequented this place . I was in the area and am so glad I stopped in. The quality and variety of houseplants and trees are amazing. Today I concentrated on the houseplants and they have such lovelies. Mind you I'm a houseplants addict so this place is heaven. It was a peaceful walk to view all the houseplants. And today there was a 15% discount which made it even better. Presentation of all accessories and product are beautiful. Will definitely be back soon . read more

Absolutely horrible. I ordered a bouquet with irises and tulips called tulip song for my mom's birthday and they delivered a rose bouquet with something looking like holly berries even though it's nearly dentistry and not Christmas. When I called they told me that they wouldn't redeliver or refund because Teleflora approved their swap, even though I did not. What makes it even worse is that estabrooks called me directly the day before to confirm everything and they still did something completely different and were unwilling to assist in any way. The girl Jessica on the phone was also incredibly rude and short even though it was not in any way my mistake. Nobody seems to think it is crazy to deliver roses for a bouquet called Tulip Song. It honestly wouldn't be that bad if they just redid the bouquet, but as Jessica said, "their hands are tied". Shockingly horrible service from a place I have attended since I was 4 years old. read more

estabrooks has experienced alot of change over the last 15 years....and not alot of it for the good. I know the family loosely and went through the same Horticulture Program as one of the owners. And I work for another Perennial Farm so I am familiar with plants, their costs etc. I enjoyed going to this place in years past, for the rare and unusual plants that would show up from time to time. But alas no longer. Though I could at one time be able to spend $200 a year. this has dwindled down to this year of a whopping $6. Not even the 'Yard sales' are worth it...as they put in some questionable items for sale and even more questionable plants... Out went seed grown, rare and unusual annuals and perennials. In came Out of state grown prefinished plants with a price tag three times what they're worth. And don't be fooled by the plants with oversized Tags that say 'Locally grown'.....They're NOT!...the prices have come to be the talk of customers like me and Landscapers alike who quite frequently call them Estacrooks. Save your money and drive to Pownal to Garden Spot Farm or down to Falmouth to Skillin's Greenhouses and save yourself a boatload of money. The staff can be pushy at times, the plants are somewhat over priced and at times undercared for and alot of the staff knows absolutely nothing about what is on display. Wrong advice has been known to be given on Perennials and Trees/shrubs. read more

Estabrook's in Yarmouth is a convenient garden center. The location is accessible, items decently organized and they have a ok selection of landscape material. Tom is a great help to customers, friendly and knowledgable. Unfortunately, some other long time staff seem arrogant and are condescending to customers. Areas for improvement include - more friendly and helpful staff other than Tom, more truly Maine grown plants and lower/more competitive prices (rather than trying to bait customers with overpriced plants and frequent sales). Even when on sale, Estabrook's plants are more expensive than local competitors. Their mobile app is great too. Current inventory and price available on the app would be nice. read more

I am new to the area and was thrilled to find the huge Estabrooks nursery in Yarmouth. The staff are super-friendly and knowledgeable. How, I was shocked at the high prices, even compared to nurseries in the Boston area. $25 a piece for some simple two quart perennials -- I kid you not. Not only that, but I picked up several of the same plant in the same size container and found at the checkout they were priced differently. Instead of charging me the lowest price for all of them they insisted on charging different prices. Okay, so feeling a little ripped off...and then I got all my shrubs and perennials home to find them massively root-bound in their pots. I had to hack them to pieces to loosen the ball -- who knows if they'll survive. I would expect that from Home Depot plants but not at a high-end nursery. I'll be shopping at Estabrooks very sparingly if at all in the future. read more

I have visited Estabrook's in Yarmouth several times this year and I am very impressed. The plants are healthy, and all but the trees and large shrubs are on tables so they're easy to see and reach. There are large signs that help you find what you're looking for. I have read older reviews that said that staff wasn't helpful but I did not find that to be the case. It's easy to find a staff member wearing an apple green shirt and they are VERY helpful and knowledgeable. Today a young man named Zeke spent a lot of time helping me find exactly what I was looking for. I never sensed that I was bothering him. He even called inventory when I couldn't find one particular daylily that I was hoping to find, They didn't have it, but he didn't just blow me off and say 'if you don't see it we don't have it', like some other places do. I left feeling very satisfied with my purchases. PS - To those who say the prices are too high at Estabrook's, may I suggest Home Depot, Loews, or Walmart? You get what you pay for. read more

I live right nearby and frequent the store and greenhouses. The staff is exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable and the plant selection is huge! You pay a little more but it is so worth it for healthy and hearty plants the last! My bleeding heart is a monster and my pansies keep reseeding themselves and coming back! I love the small town feel of this family owned local business and being greeted by a greenhouse kitty or two ;-). We also love their yearly events like the Easter Egg Hunt, Night out at Estabrooks and Christmas with the Alpacas. read more
