    Pool
    Allison J.

Probably one of the worst motels I've ever stayed in in my life. It was so dirty and gross. The mattress was so lumpy and uncomfortable. The staff were just so strange and creepy. The pool wasn't even filled up with water. It looked like it hadn't been used in years. We couldn't wait to leave the next morning. We all got up extra early and bolted out the door. Do yourself a favor and spend a little extra money and stay somewhere else.

Beware!!!!!!!!!!! This place is terrible. I understand it is a family business, but they need to do a better job with cleaning. Having blood on your sheets is unexpectable. Send a few more dollars and stay somewhere else. Also another buddy who was staying a few rooms down found a heroin spoon

    Horrible place.!!

Horrible place..bed had hair on it. sheet had holes in it. Towels are dirty. This place is just a mess. Never going to come here again. Also the room smell like cigarettes.. bad bad place!! Oh and microwave is all rusty too.

    White stuff

The only reason I am giving this nasty ass place 1 star is because it won't post my review. Stay clear. We stayed less then 10 minutes and walked out. There was "white" stuff on our sheets, the bathroom walls are peeling and gross, the room smell like old stale cigarettes, management are liars. The pictures are very deceiving.

Do you like streaming police body cam videos on YouTube? This place has a couple on there (not for…read moregood reasons). To start, this review is 2 years late as we stayed there in May of 2024 for a show we attended in Red Bank. Property was used as a state funded shelter to house homeless / welfare recipients. I can't confirm or deny this is still happening in 2026. We checked in, exhausted from our 6 hour drive. At first glance, we were impressed with the hotel's charming decor and couldn't wait to crash. The first impression quickly faded as we headed to our room to the sounds of screams and N bombs billowing through the halls. Great, this was our neighbor. Walked into the room and couldn't even hold a conversation with my wife as the obnoxious voice in the next room was overbearing. Hadn't even been in the hotel 5 minutes and I'm already back at the front desk requesting we be assigned another room. The front desk clerk advised the property was full but assured us she'd speak to our neighbor and tell her to pipe down. Apparently she knew her personally. Did that work? Yes....for exactly 10 minutes. Then it was back to screams, n words and "yo yo yo yo m-fer this m-fer that." Could've sworn Cardi B was in the next room. Demanded our reservation cancel at this point with a full refund. Front desk lady told us she would boot the woman from the property. This is where it gets spicy. Front desk lady and woman are now involved in a full-scale verbal shoot out in the hallway. The clerk then summoned another staff member for assistance. Apparently, they didn't get along and were bickering back and forth in the midst of trying to evict this woman from the hotel. Doesn't get more professional than that. Police were called and finally after a 2-hour song and dance the woman vacated the premises. The police seem to be regular visitors there, the staff highlighted their frequent pop ins. Spoke to the Manager the next day, who seemed empathetic to our experience. We were promised a refund for the eventful night. When we returned home, I emailed him to touch base about it, never to hear back from him again. Moral of the story? Don't let eloquent settings fool you from the ratchet bowels that lie within the walls.

First of all, right on Rt. 34 S, not far off the GSP, and plenty of options for dining in the area. "Continental breakfast" was breads, bagels, a few cereals, Activia yogurt, bananas, coffee and tea, OJ. We were happy to have Cheerios, an unsweetened choice. There were a microwave, a mini fridge, and a TV in the room. The shower in the room was good. I found the bed and pillows mildly uncomfortable but it was just the one night and fine. Our room was right around the corner from the reception desk, and right across the hall from the laundry room, with windows open to the parking lot, but aside from 1 very loud conversation in the hallway right after we went to bed, it was quiet enough. The ambiance of the hotel is cute, reminiscent of an older era, nicely decorated. Of course Colt's Neck was (maybe still is) known for horses, hence the name. For me, the highlight was actually the next morning after we checked out - it's barely a half mile from the Central NJ famed Delicious Orchards. We drove back to NYC with more than 5 lbs of fresh autumn apples, a fantastic apple turnover, and a pkg of apple cider donuts!

The hotel is beautiful and it felt like every single piece of furniture and decorations were chosen intentionally. Perhaps the best part of our stay was the phenomenal, friendly and attentive service from manager Emily. Truly a gem of a person, and made sure everything we needed was available. Would also like to highlight that Emily reached out even before our stay begun to ask if we needed anything upon arrival or had any questions. All requests were met and Emily was prompt to answer all questions. I would highly recommend The James Bradley to anyone thinking of visiting. If you're looking for a quick vacation out of this city, this is the place, so easy to get to, the town has wonderful restaurants/bars and the beach was beautiful (even if it was too cold to hang out). And the soft boiled eggs we chose were either cooked too hard or way undercooked. The yogurt and fruit was delicious! Our server was great.

Evidently the hot water had to be reset. Additionally, I didn't like coming back to no housekeeping. It is every other day at this location. When I asked about it, the staff told me it was in the website in a very defensive and dismissive tone and conversation. I didn't see it there and it didn't solve the situation. Really liked the room, but the microwave in room 418 was not good and did not cook to throughly, and i had a terrible time with it. I had pitched a frozen dinner downstairs and it was not a good experience. Hotel was nice and clean. The room was spacious. The breakfast was good and was the traditional Hampton Inn breakfast with all the options. I did get to enjoy the pool too which was nice. Staff was great aside from the housekeeping conversation. Going with a 3 based on THIS overall experience but could easily see it as a 4 or 5 star stay if I should ever stay again.

Our check-in was smooth but the front desk clerk wasn't really friendly but not rude either. Our room had a kitchenette and a desk area. Everything was clean. The bed was ok. The bathroom had 1/2 a roll of toilet paper and we had to go to the front desk to get more. (As we were leaving, another roll was on a shelf that we couldn't see). We did not utilize housekeeping so can't speak on that. The complimentary breakfast was blah and the coffee wasn't great but it is free. Honestly, there's 500 Dunkin's, Starbucks and local spots to get better coffee. Do yourself a favor and drive the 10 minutes to Town Bagels and Grill. Get yourself a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel (I just go for the egg everything bagel). There is a small outdoor pool on the property that is well maintained. But, a staff member has to unlock the gate (even though there is a card reader on the gate). There is a small laundry room with washers and dryers. They did the job. And a small workout room that I did use once. The hotel itself is not in a walkable area. But the boardwalk is a 15-20 min drive away. I'd stay here again but it wouldn't be my first choice.

However, it didn't take much to outshine the Embassy Suites that I had just left in Richmond, Virginia, to impress me. When I arrived at this hotel, the manager went above and beyond to work with me since I am Deaf. He pulled out a notepad and wrote the specifics about the hotel and the surrounding area. Also, I couldn't help but notice the exit signs were like they were over in Europe and Canada, which I prefer. They're green with a figure walking. If you get the opportunity to stay here, you'll notice them. Also, the rooms were more like small apartments, not in the Embassy Suites style or TownePlace Suites by Marriott or any other chain. They were very unique. I noticed they didn't have any pans to cook with, which was a downside; still, I can easily handle that. The bed was firm but not a rock. I sleep great all night. They offered bathrobes for guests, which were hanging in the bathroom. Most importantly, I took my black light to the entire room, and I didn't stumble across some disgusting stain for once. I would stay here again. I hope Best Western keeps thinking about RIO because I need another hotel option after the massive debacle in Richmond, VA. Please see my other review for that hotel hell. On a side note, the day I was leaving an entire hockey team from Canada was arriving to stay here. It was pretty cool seeing them packing all their gear.

This place is a shoddy renovation of a Red Roof Inn with serious issues. First issue was continuous fire alarms. which I've never seen in a hotel before. The first room they gave me reeked of damp and mold. Bubbling paint around the AC looked like hidden mold -- confirmed by a maintenance worker before he backtracked with an offensive, racist comment blaming the smell on "Indian people" who stay here. I reported it immediately. They moved me to a second room that had an overpowering cigarette stench. The final room was just barely acceptable -- and that's being generous. They have a button to press for room service, but room service never comes, so you have to beg them for things like towels because if you tell the front desk, they'll just forget or not care. The front desk was chaotic and unhelpful, but did acknowledge maintenance comments as unprofessional. I had to request a room change multiple times. In the process, I accidentally left my AirPods on the counter because I was up there so often. They "lost" them, "found" them, and "lost" them again. Now they claim to have them, but given how this place operates, I wouldn't be shocked if they disappear as retaliation for this review. The manager told me over the phone earlier that he was going to donate them Even as a Diamond Select member, they refused my late check-out benefit until I had to reinforce the point that this is a Best Western hotel with a status system which the higher tiers allow late check out after which I was begrudgingly granted a late checkout. When I asked the manager for just one night credited back from my 10-day stay after all the trouble, he never got back to me, then on the follow-up, he hung up on me. Between the mold, cigarette smell, offensive comments from staff, unprofessional management, mishandling of personal belongings, and refusal to honor loyalty benefits, this hotel is a total disaster. Do yourself a favor -- book somewhere else. The Holiday Inn Express in Neptune is great, especially if you have the Chase IHG card.

But my god, it is splinter hell. Us, along with 3 other families that we knew of, were realizing at the pool that us and our kid's feet were completely full of splinters. We spent a total of about 3 hours at the pool over 2 days and my four year old had over 50 splinters in each foot! I had about 10 and spouse a few less. My four year old will not even let me look at his foot, nevertheless remove the splinters - yeah right. I think we are going to need to get sedated. This has ruined the stay to be honest. The hotel also didn't have tweezers. At least two families complained and nothing seemed to be done about it. The deck is extremely dry. This wouldn't be a hard problem to solve. ICE. I requested ice about 20 different ways, because there is no ice machine so they say just request it: - through the app on their tablet (3x, nothing) - through calling the front desk (2x, nothing) - in person at the front desk (2x, nothing) - through text to the front desk (4x, nothing) - in person to the person that came to the room one night (2x, 1x worked!) I got ice once, woohoooooo! The tablet is a joke. I needed an extra bedsheet and requested it through the tablet and it never came. In person at the front desk it did, however. Beautiful hotel, but the splinters ruined it. You could not pay ME to stay somewhere that my autistic kid gets 100 splinters in his feet. The hotel is feeling a bit neglected in some ways. Our "terrace" had algae on the deck area, one couch cushion had a big brown spot and there was half of a DEAD BIRD on our terrace. It was there the whole time. Of course my 4 year old was enthralled.Yay.
