We stayed at this hotel for 1 night during September. We needed somewhere close to Asbury Park, which was only about 20 minutes away. There are a couple of places nearby the hotel to get food and even a supermarket and pharmacy. The hotel has a large parking lot, which could be slightly confusing to get into. Upon entering the hotel, we immediately noticed it is filled with charm. There are decorations all around and many little bonuses. They had free cookies and coffee throughout the day. Also bowls of lollipops scattered throughout the hotel. The breakfast was pretty basic, but enough to hold you over. The service was great throughout our entire stay. The main reason for staying at this hotel is that they allow dogs. For only a small fee! Most other places in the area charge an expensive nightly fee. They offer dog treats in the lobby and were extremely welcoming to us and our dog. The room was very clean and comfortable and had plenty of space. We loved our stay here and actually wished we could have stayed for more than one night. We would definitely stay here again if we are returning to the area. Anyone looking for a pet friendly hotel at a reasonable price should definitely stay here! read more

First off, this is a charming, comfortable place to stay for a long weekend close to the shore. Just don't arrive during a heat wave! The rooms have small window mounted air conditioning units. Ours stopped working after the first night. The last two nights were very warm and uncomfortable. We asked for either a maintenance person or another window, but neither was available that weekend. The front desk staff were friendly and professional, and the room was large and (aside from the heat) quite clean and well-appointed. read more

The hotel is nice, friendly, and pleasant. The breakfast is simple and well presented. I enjoyed bike riding around the neighborhood (No fee). They had a collection of board games etc. negatives: near road with noisy traffic. They love dogs and dogs of all sizes are around without a leash. read more

5/4/20 My company booked my hotel here and I am thoroughly impressed. Upon arriving, it seemed like an old hotel remodeled but once you enter, it feels very homey and welcoming. The front desk receptionist was very friendly and accommodating. I parked my car in the back and came through that side to my room. I was so excited that their gym was open and guests were permitted to use the facility, as due to covid-19, not many places are allowing such accommodations. My room was clean and perfect for my one night of rest. I sincerely appreciated the fact that they allow bike rentals, I've never seen that before at any hotels that I've stayed so that was something exciting and surprising. I would most definitely return here again if and when I am in the area. read more

We visited NJ for a hockey tournament and opted for the Colts Neck Inn based on the price and previous reviews. This is not your typical hotel, and I was a little skeptical at first, but thought I would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival the first thing you notice is that this doesn't resemble most hotels (see attacked photo). It is an old building with lots of character. Very cool, as I'm a history buff. You can tell it is old and could use a few updates, but everything looked clean and there were no unpleasant odors. The room was nice enough. I will say it was much larger than expected. For this type of hotel I was anticipating small rooms. Not the case at all. Our room was huge! The furniture was nice and some looked newer. The bathroom was ok but could use some upgrades. Still, everything worked properly and was sufficient. There was an odor to the water - reminded me of rusty pipes - but I didn't feel unclean. The shower had amazing water pressure, which you don't always find in hotels. The bed was ok. The mattress felt old and soft, but I was comfortable enough for a couple of nights. I was a little disappointed in the breakfast. No real hot breakfast options. They had waffles, but those appeared to be frozen (like Eggo). Basic options like toast, bagels, cereal and fruit. It was fine, but I just prefer hot breakfast choices. The complementary coffee was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everyone we encountered greeted us with a smile and asked if we needed anything. Always a plus when you're traveling! Overall this place was a nice place to stay. They could use a few upgrades and some additional amenities (like hot breakfast), but otherwise no complaints. I would certainly stay there again. read more

We went to see a band at the Colts Neck Inn last night and we were very disappointed in the way the bartenders did not seem to acknowledge us. We tried for several minutes to get a drink and they simply seemed to ignore us. As more of our friends came to hang out, we got ignored more. I saw one of them even making a face at my friend who asked for a straw. If your not a regular there expect bad service from the two bartenders that worked last night. I think management needs to have a talk with these two ladies. read more

Visited restaurant last night. They advertise themselves as a steak house. We ordered the porterhouse steak. Our waitress was wonderful. When she brought the steak she herself immediately said it looked too well done snd brought us another. This steak was done properly however was extremely tough. Too difficult to cut even with sharp steak knives. t that point we ate what we could. On the way out I spoke to the hostess snd she said we should have sent it back. When I told her how many times can you send back the steak she shook her head. Sorry to say we will not be returning. read more

From beginning to end this was a huge disappointment and not worth having to put on make-up. We ate outside and the seating area is drab. So many little things could have improved the atmosphere. There were weeds, the astroturf was cheap, only half the tables were set and the other sitting area had visible dust on the tables. We waited a long time for very stale bread that came at the same time as the appetizers. We had the baked Brie which was delicious but they missed an opportunity for presentation for every dish we got. The $15 a glass wine was decent but served in scratched old plastic goblets. We got the salmon entree. The salmon was ok although had no flavor but salt. The vegetables and rice that came with it were both soggy and flavorless not even salt... just water. Clearly they were cooked prior and then washed with some hot water moments before. I never place a negative review but I hope that this establishment sees the potential to create a better space with better food and service. Just because it's been like this clearly forever doesn't mean it can stay that way to thrive. Where do i begin.... Aside from us finding bugs in our room, which we can't provide a picture of because we stepped on it. Now the bug is nowhere to be found. Upon arrival douche bag at the front desk has no sense of social awareness. I think you could have a goat working the front desk and he would've been more polite. Called about the bug and he said "we're fully booked for the night" meaning he couldn't switch the room although he could come and get the bug out for us!! wow !!! our saving grace !! read more

Went to the Colts neck inn restaurant for thanksgiving with my father, my mother, my brother, and my girlfriend we got there for our 3pm reservation and we got seated fairly quickly around 3:15pm we got to our table and they had a pitcher of water which was enough for 3 glasses out of the 5 and the hostess who was there said our waitress would be with us in a moment which took about 20 minutes it was an older lady didn't catch her name but let's just say she should be retired or should find another job maybe a greeter at Walmart would be better anyway she came to our table with bread and asked us what we would like to drink and we ordered 2 glasses of wine a soda and a bud light, my girlfriend was ok with her water, 10 minutes later she came back and said they had no bud light which wasn't a deal breaker so I asked if I could have a Miller Lite and she said yes we have that so she left then another waitress came over with our first serving of food with no drinks it was 5 bowls of this turkey gravy soup then the drinks came without my Beer turned out my brother put his stop watch on to record how much time had passed when she asked what kind of replacement beer I wanted and 40 minutes went by I asked for more water for our table which they never brought over and after all that time that passed we kept seeing the older waitress who took our drink order and when she saw us she would walk in a different direction to avoid us I'm thinking she knew I was still missing my Miller Lite and around 4:15 my dad spoke with the manager who informed my dad that they were short staffed and after he said that to my dad we decided to leave never going back to that restaurant again we had a nicer experience earlier in the year when we went there for Mother's Day for brunch but never again and listen I get it it's thanksgiving it's a busy time of the year for any restaurant that chooses to remain open but if you don't have a full staff ready you should not be open and as we're leaving there were still A LOT of people in the lobby I almost wanted to tell them to find somewhere else to eat if possible but I kept walking to the door to leave the building I'm sure a lot of them would soon have the same experience we just had and based off this experience where we decided to eat out for thanksgiving for the first time in my lifetime it makes me never want to eat out on thanksgiving or any holiday for that matter again which I honestly don't mind but I'm never again coming to this place again read more

I had a positive experience here. -First and foremost, this is a PET FRIENDLY HOTEL and you would never know it from the rooms. Rooms were very clean, no dust under the beds, bathroom was spotless. They give you a complimentary bottle of water in each room along with excellent shampoo, conditioner, facial soap, body soap, lotion, makeup removal cloth, and a vanity kit which included two cotton balls, two Q-tips, and a small nail file. Plenty of clean towels, toilet paper, and tissues. - bedding was soft, comfortable, and of high quality. We were very comfortable in our room. We had just come in from the beach and the air conditioner was on in the room because they knew we were on our way. -Complimentary Breakfast was really nice. This is something a lot of places have stopped doing. There was a variety of bagels with a bagel slicer and toaster. Donuts and pastries, orange juice, coffee, and tea. Butter, cream cheese, and jelly were available as well. Breakfast is served in a lounge area complete with free newspapers, a flat screen tv, books, grand piano, and a soda machine. There was also a very clean bathroom off of this lounge area so I didn't have to go back to my room to use the restroom. Perfect room for playing cards and board games. The room also had several stacks of take out menus for Chinese, Italian, and other local eateries. - besides complimentary water and toiletries, each room came with an ice bucket with plastic bag, bible, notepad and pen, and several clean glasses. There was also an old school flat screen in our room with cable. - Free wifi on premises - front of house staff was extremely friend and warm. I felt welcomed as soon as I got in. They knew me by name when I walked in. Asked about my dog right way as if they were eager to meet him. - there is also a restaurant on premises that I did not have a chance to visit as well as a banquet area that I did not get to see as well. I would definitely stay at this location again. I'm actually looking forward to it. This will be my first choice when visiting the jersey shore. read more

This was our very first time visiting. My husband and I were celebrating our 5 year anniversary. We arrived and were greeted by a wonderful lady at the front desk. In the lobby area it was very welcoming there was complimentary coffee, candy, and bikes for you to use to go on a bike ride if you liked. At check in I was told we were upgraded to a suite because it was our anniversary that was so nice of the hotel to do we really appreciated the gesture. I paid for the room and we were handed over our room key cards. We made our way to our room and it was huge and very nice there was a jacuzzi, a sitting area and roses they placed on each side of our beds that was a nice touch. Everything was very clean and it smelled nice upon entering the room. We loved the King bed it was soft and comfortable. We really enjoyed ourselves such a great place to visit to just relax and close to the beaches to go visit (20 min ride). We also went to Huddy's and the Colt necks inn restaurant which was right next door and right up the street, they were both very good. This is a charming and beautiful hotel. I got ready here for my wedding day with my family, and couldn't have asked for a better space. We chose the suite which is a large space (enough room for wedding party, family, vendors) with good lighting, a beautiful small window and they even added a full length mirror. It is quiet at night, the king bed is very comfortable and the continental breakfast made food & coffee so convenient in the morning. The rooms were clean, my friend's room had a few issues - the bathroom mirror was falling off the wall and the window blind was broken. I liked that the windows actually open unlike most hotels. Solid hotel for the price! I had to come to NJ for a wedding this Labor Day weekend and all of the hotels with blocks for the wedding were on the shore and incredibly expensive. I found the Colts Neck Inn online and snagged a very reasonably priced room for the night. It's not the fanciest or most state of the art hotel, but it's quaint, had a nice sized room, fairly comfortable bed. I appreciated the option for an early check in at 12pm - it gave me plenty of time to relax and get ready for the wedding, otherwise I would've been rushed. My only complaints were a finicky hair dryer in my room and that the guests in the room next to me (thin walls!) were quite loud until well after midnight (I fell asleep around 1230). I would totally recommend this hotel for those looking for a reasonably priced alternative to the fancier hotels closer to the shore. read more

I'm sure that at one time, this was a high-end hotel. Unfortunately, the changing tastes and competitive nature of the hotel industry has left this place in the dust. It's still a comfortable, secluded, inexpensive place to stay, with a courteous staff and basic amenities. This place has lots of character, even if it is a bit well-worn. The hotel was advertising a $79 nightly special during our visit, so compared to motels/hotels in that price range our stay was a bargain. The room was tidy, clean and well-furnished. Air-conditioning was via a window unit that worked well, though a bit noisy. Bedding was very comfortable and luxurious, but allergy-sufferers be warned that there are feather pillows. The staff was very good about offering a poly-fil alternative when we asked if one was available. The weekend of our stay, the hotel hosted some sort of bridal event with many guests spending the night on-site. We felt like we were the only guests in the place, it was so quiet. The traffic on nearby Routes 34 and 537 generated more noise. The bathroom was adequate, though the toilet was a bit quirky and noisy. Towels were well-stocked for two people, but not very plush. Water pressure in the shower was OK, but could have used a better shower head to deliver a better spray. One complaint is the water has a metallic/sulphur smell that permeates anything it contacts. It's a bit disappointing to exit a shower smelling like a rusty egg. Some sort of modern filtration system could really help this issue. Free WiFi is a requisite in any modern hotel/motel and it worked pretty well most of the time (in the hotel's defense, we did have a major thunderstorm on one evening of our stay). Continental breakfast (aka bagels, donuts, coffee and OJ) is free every morning until 11:00 am. Colts Neck is thoroughbred horse farm country, home to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and other gentlemen farmers. Those folks like the neighborhood surrounding their estates to be quiet and undeveloped, so you'll need to drive a bit to find "civilization" unless you don't mind meals at the nearby Colt's Neck Inn Steakhouse or the Perkins chain restaurant down the street. The Route 9/Freehold commercial corridor (home to the massive Freehold Raceway Mall and other establishments) is about 20 minutes west on Route 537. Red Bank is not far away either, so it might be an economical alternative lodging for a visit there. It's a bit too far away from Asbury Park and other shore points to be a viable alternative. I highly recommend a stop to Delicious Orchards, just south of the hotel on Route 34. They have delicious baked goods, specialty foods and fresh local produce at fair prices. As long as the price remains below $100 a night, the Colts Neck Inn Hotel is a great low-budget way to get more than what you pay for. It'll be even better if they get the odiferous water situation under control. read more

it was great to stay in a hotel that had a bit of old school flair and look but with enough modern amenities to not feel like you're trapped in the 70s. there's coffee, tea, and cookies in the lobby at all hours, and they even had bikes you can rent (though none of us did). staff was very friendly. I checked in during the wee hours after partying all night at an awesome wedding, no problems whatsoever. the shower had excellent water pressure - this sounds like an odd thing to praise but I hate when hotel showers have low pressure. read more

A close friend of mine got married in Colt's Neck, NJ last weekend. A whole gang of us rented rooms from the Colts Neck Inn. Overall it was a good experience but for $141 (inc tax) for a single room over the weekend I expect amenities similar to those of a Marriott. The Colt's Neck Inn had charm but lacked in certain areas. This just off the beaten path inn is great for stepping away from your world and taking a deep breath. The kind and the courteous will especially enjoy that you can bring your dogs. I was in for quite the surprise when I got to Jersey to surprise my sister. Turns out that Colts Neck is oddly rural. There isn't much of anything around here; and that includes restaurants and bars. This hotel was okay for the price, but it did have some quirks. The worst quirk being that the water smells like copper. It took me a week after I got home to get that out of my hair. I'm not sure how strict the hotel owners are about certain things, but guests were definitely smoking pot. This place is small, not quite big enough to be inconspicuous about drugs. All in all, stay here if you have to be in the area. Otherwise run to a more populated area of New Jersey. read more

Went for Mother's Day Brunch and very dissatisfied. Inside smells like cigarettes and food was cold. The smell of cigarettes was very distracting from the moment you walk in. Seems very outdated. The buffet (nothing to brag about, cold eggs and potatoes sitting out on buffet pans) no carving station, poor dessert display etc....... Party of 6 is seated next to the smelly dark bar, only large parties allowed to sit in the bright party room.. Would of been nice to have specialty Mother's Day cocktails some floral displays idk anything to brighten up the place. Thank god I was with nice company bc the food and drinks were terrible. Even found a hair in the fruit salad..... . Would not recommend this place and will not be returning. read more

Booked this hotel with a wedding block. Upon arrival, the clerk gave her speech about smoking and vaping. I let her know that wouldn't be a problem as we didn't do those things. She proceeded to lecture me that she hopes so, because the detectors will go off and everyone will hear them, blah blah blah. Then when she did the booking for our second room, she said it all over again. She had no business lecturing me like a child twice. Going out a few evenings later to get our ice bucket that had been left in the dining room, and the clerk, barely grunted and didn't at any point speak a single word. Just got up and handed me the bucket. And to top it off, they gave away my brother in laws room because they got stuck in Chicago because of weather. When they got there and got understandable upset, the woman proceeded to lecture them and say, "shame on you!" Numerous times. Will never spend my money here again. The facility was old and tired looking. Very unimpressive facilities, but the bad attitudes of the staff were the breaking point. read more

We stayed here because it was pet friendly and pet friendly hotels are far and few. It was very cute! Extremely friendly staff and very accommodating. It's $25 to have your pet with you and they seemed to love dogs. The lobby and hallways were warm and charming. Rooms were spacious, slightly dated but everything seemed very clean. And the prices were great! At check out we got a sheet of paper that gave us half off our next stay if we came back before end of the year. We would def come back since we love to travel with our puppy! Oh and they had free breakfast in the morning and treats for dogs! read more

God awful place. Old and musty smelling. Poorly appointed with stains and noise issues. Its an old building and every sound, voice, screaming child, creek in the floors, movement above the lower floor rooms, people with children running around & outside your room can be heard as if there is NO wall between you and them. My room smelled like an old persons closet. There was no attempt by the staff to monitor the noise level or acitivity of guests after midnight so the running around, moving of things like chairs and such was heard all night long. the morning brought the same level of poor management in considering that guests were still sleeping at 7am while a family of unsupervised children ran screamimg in the halls! read more

My review is for the restaurant: The Colts Neck Inn & Chophouse. The Inn/Hotel is next door. This is the restaurant that in my opinion makes the BEST Chicken Francese ever. No matter where I go, when I order chicken francese I compare it to what I get here. So far, the Colts Neck Inn wins. Big pieces of chicken that are not pounded to within an inch of it's life. (like the chicken at the Shore Cafe in Hazlet) Juicy and tender with a lemony sauce that I can't stop dipping my bread into. Love this dish. My husband usually gets the Porterhouse but this night chose the Rib-Eye. Great choice. Cooked to med-rare, tender and flavorful. Dinners come with nice big salads in actual bowls, not those tiny plates again, at the Shore Cafe. We also each had mashed potatoes & a vegetable. For appetizers we chose their pot stickers which were crispy and delicious & the onion rings that I always love. Their dining room isn't huge, but it's very nice and quaint with a great wait-staff. The bar upfront is very large and there are tables there in case you wish to watch a game while eating dinner. For the quality of the food you receive here for a very reasonable price, this is one of our favorite spots for dinner. We've been coming here for years and haven't been disappointed yet. read more

This place was everything I ever wanted in a hotel! Warm & comforting, the lobby was adorably decorated with plenty of lounge space. They even had treats for your pets (pet friendly hotel) and bicycles you could sign out and go for a ride. They offer complimentary breakfast every morning and don't shut it down at a strict and (like most hotels, too early time); most offerings were available until about noon. Also had a keurig in the lobby to make yourself coffee or tea. The room was pleasant it had all the amenities we needed like a fridge and microwave. Only negative was the shower kept dripping, seems like a historic building so these things just happen, and also our hairdryer was broken so we just went without. There were games in the breakfast room to play any time you want, and a workout room too. Really had everything we needed and there were soooo many places to eat within walking distance, so it was very convenient. Also this may sound weird but the key cards worked really well at this hotel....99% of the time when I stay at a large chain hotel I have issues with the keys not working and always end up having to ride the elevator back and forth to the front desk until I get a card that works. This one worked on the first try every time. We would definitely stay here again. read more

We stayed at the Colts Neck Inn a few years ago and had a very enjoyable visit. Unfortunately, this visit was not the same. Although we made the reservation within sufficient time, the only room available was on the first floor, adjacent to the staff and supply room with our window practically next to the patio. We had to call the front desk at 2:00 am to ask if they could control the outside noise. There was a nasty stain on the greeting notice to guests, placed right on the pillow, the phone did not work, and the hot water had a putrid smell of sulfur, thus we couldn't shower. The staff person must have known about this problem because she readily provided us with bottled water, suggesting the water from the tap wasn't safe to drink. We won't be back there for sure. read more

Awesome hotel! It's clean and quiet, and the staff are friendly. The room was spacious enough for the price. We stayed in a king bed room, which had exactly what we needed to keep us feeling comfy and happy. Each room had a single rose in a mason jar (gives you the warm fuzzies when you see it!) and inspirational quotes and little sayings are everywhere throughout the hotel. Overall we were very pleased with the experience and would come back again anytime! We peeped one of the Grande Suites while a maid was cleaning it and that's the next room we are booking because WOW! read more

Awful. Would give no stars if that was a thing. Dirty and in desperate need of upgrading. Heard everything our neighbors next door or upstairs said, as well as when they used their bathroom vent fan or AC(not sure which) there was a loud jet engine like noise in our room. As well as when they filled the big tub in their "suite" it was like we were inside a waterfall. Pleasant front desk woman had no idea what the wifi was named or the password. Rooms were bare bones and the "flat screen TV" was literally a big box TV with just a flat screen from like 1998. Boyfriend and I both opted not to use the shower, as it was dirty and had rust water marks everywhere as well as a big dead bug in it. We considered sleeping in my car in the parking lot, I was just totally skeeved. Pay more for a place closer to the shore if that's what you're after-what a waste of $150 bucks. read more

My husband and I recently attended a wedding in the area and stayed the night at the Colts Neck Inn. It was a horrific experience. The staff was unprofessional, the water smelled of copper and our room overall smelled of chemicals and urine. When asked to rectify the situation they denied any problems initially and ultimately knocked a few dollars off the bill. It did not feel very clean, and for almost $200 a night in the middle of no where NJ I expect something better. read more
