The food was excellent. We met there as a group of Vietnam Vets. We were treated warmly, and the coffee kept coming. The host was excellent, stopping by our table and asking if everything was OK. Our waitress was great, even though some of us came in a little later than others, we had already ordered, but she was on top of it, and got everything together. The host was a great guy and treated us with the utmost respect. Not a single complaint from any of us, the syrup for the pancakes and Belgian waffles was warmed (an extra delight). We have a diabetic in the group, and he asked for, and promptly received, sugar-free syrup. Orders were served up within 10 minutes. Run away. Run far far away. If you can't run call for a ride... in a fast car & don't look back. We arrived about 6PM & 646 PM we left with no food, but a bill for food. Here's what happened in between & left me literally wanting to vomit the rest of the night. Our server took forever to come back, so the nice hostess took our order. No problem with her. "I can't read her (the hostess) writing" (which my 16 yr old son said he could see the hostesses writing & it was nice hand writing)? "I'm so confused because I didn't write down their order." "I need to clear this other table off the computer so I can enter this tables (ours) order." She messed up another tables Pie order. She messed up another order and the table was waiting to send the food back. To top it all off my son got a lemonade. He tasted it and said "Oh Mom this is terrible! Taste it!" Being mom what did I do, taste it..... It was HORRIBLE! Not too strong. Not too week. Like nasty gaged bad.... Then my son says "MOM there's something in it!" Sure enough.... Huge chunks of... I don't even know. One person said old food. One thought it was a moth.... I think it was old food and nasty dishwater because even the color was off. However I sat at my table for over 10 minutes and several staff (including a manager) walked by my table. Not one stopped to wait on me or even say they would be with me shortly. First time eating out at a restaurant in months. Well let's say we should have skipped breakfast. My partner wanted chicken fried steak and eggs. He is on a restricted diet to a terminal illness and if wants to eat chicken fried steak, he can have it. Even though the mask mandate has been lifted in Lancaster County, it is very disturbing to see the wait staff and employees not all wearing masks anyway. THEY are exposed to everyone so therefore have a higher chance of getting Covid and passing it on. Connie our waitress was the ONE redeeming quality of this visit. We tipped her generously. My partner's chicken friend steak and his eggs were perfect. Now on to the rest of the visit. I ordered Eggs Benedict, coffee and a glass of water. I never received the water even though I asked for it several times. The Bennies normally, per the menu, come medium done. A yolk on a poached egg should be soft done and runny. That is the entire point of eating a poached egg and particularly on a Bennie. So I ordered it soft. Hashbrowns were nicely crisp on the outside....and not done at all on the inside. They were barely warm. Eggs were medium cooked, no run at all. English Muffin was WAY undertoasted. Ham was the type you actually put on sandwiches - deli sliced and at first I thought that it was where the salt was coming from. Nope, the bottom of the english muffins has so much salt on them it made your mouth burn. let's talk about the sauce - obviously not fresh or even house made AND it was slightly off. At first I though the 'off' taste was probably the ham. But I tried each item individually and it was definitely the sauce. I ate maybe a bite or two of the hash browns and maybe 1/2 of one Bennie. Maybe. Then pushed it to the side. When Connie came back, she apologized profusely, I told her what I said above and noted that I didn't want anything to replace it. My partner was almost done eating by that time and I was fine. She offered to give me a piece of pie and I said great how about the Strawberry Rhubarb? Perfect. She took away the plate and came back and said the 'chef' didn't think anything was wrong with it and the sauce was fresh. Okey Dokey then. Guess the undercooked hashbrowns and muffin and the overcooked eggs were normal. I get up to hit the head and my partner pays the bill, which I didn't see until later. Guess what folks? We paid the $10 bucks for an inedible plate of food that I had to send back to the kitchen. AND when I get home that rhubarb pie turns out to actually be triple berry which of full of tiny seeds. The crust was good though. The only reason this is getting 2 stars is because my partner got what he had been craving and Connie was really nice. I remember when Village Inn was the best breakfast around. I will never be going back to the restaurant located on O street. When ordering,, I explained to the waitress that I was allergic to eggs and asked for toast as a substitute, which they have done many times in the past, she said she would have to check if she could do that. The manager comes over, asks us "What's the problem?" I explained again about the eggs she informs me it's "illegal" to substitute. I tell her it's never been an issue in the past. She says she has been the manager for 3 years and has NEVER allowed such a substitute to happen. I tell her to cancel our order, we were going across the street. I have been a server before. I understand how difficult the job can get. This particular restaurant is seldom busy and seems to be hurting for business. Why would a manager come at a paying customer with such attitude and disdain over TOAST? You can't tell me that two slices of bread cost more than two eggs. read more

Perhaps it's unusual to write a review for an established chain restaurant but this location is deserving of a positive note. Service at Village Inn continues to be better than expected. Water and coffee stay full no matter how long we stay. That's what I tend to do here. Gather with friends night or day, contemplate the world, and enjoy the food. Decor updates, just right lighting, and good music at the right level enhance the experience. Breakfast is the star. Variety is the word. Fresh and delicious are the hallmark. All of our food was delicious but the cheeseburger that one of our party ordered had raw onions that were massively moldy on it. Like very visible mold on them that should have been obvious to whoever put them on the cheeseburger. One star. This place is sorely in need or a remodel/deep cleaning. Look up at thee ceiling and you see yellow stained tiles and black gunk by the vents from long ago when smoking was allowed indoors and VI was the bastion of AA members to come out for hours and drink coffee and smoke cigarettes. The booths are Pumpkin and brown and although not torn or ratty, look like they have not been cleaned properly in years. Same way with the blonde wood chairs... Breakfast was adequate at best. Had to send the side of pancakes back because they were burnt. On both sides!!! After breakfast, asked the waitress to check us out and we were told that she was not allowed to do that and we had to go to the register. Won't be back here. Don't recommend coming here. There are 10 other places within a couple of miles that are a better choice. read more

The previous reviews are two years old, and some things have definitely changed. I ate here with a large group of people, as we didn't know the area, and was pleasantly surprised. The food offerings are on part with other major "breakfast" chain restaurants. My omelette was decent, better than I would gotten at some other chains, but not as good as I have had at diners back on the east coast. The place has been recently remodeled and I found it to be pretty clean. The service here was good as well, very friendly. We used to come here at midnight after going out to the bars. They are open late and the waiters/waitresses are fun to chat with. It's not 5 star dining, but the food is good and the atmosphere is entertaining. The neighborhood is questionable, but we haven't ever had a problem. They have free pie on Wednesdays with the purchase of a cup of coffee...can't beat that! This location has lots of "regulars" and is a fun place to hang out late at night with your friends. I love to "people watch" and this is one of the best places to do that. The coffee is good and the pancakes are yummy. They have a meal that allows you to choose from oodles of options. We are able to order one of these and split it between our twins. If you are sheepish about all that...go to the 48th and Vandorn location. HUGE PROPS!! A group of friends and I were greeted with smiles right away when we walked through the doors. We were immediately seated and our drinks were brought out shortly after. While waiting for our food, my cup slipped out of my hands and the glass shattered. I got a few cuts on my hands which was embarrassing, but I was extremely impressed with how the wait staff & their supervisor responded. Our server rushed to our table, asked if everyone was okay, and got another table ready for us to switch. The supervisor came over, gave me a couple bandaids, and also made sure everyone was okay. Of course I felt awful, but they understood my embarrassment and acted accordingly. The new gm is wonderful & we miss her at the VanDorn location. She makes sure that the employees aren't partaking in any funny business and is slightly strict with them. This upsets a lot of the long term employees as they've gotten used to a lesser strict GM who retired. She may seem a little rude but she truly has a great personality and this is coming from a past regular of hers at VanDorn. Maybe the people complaining about her should be a little concerned on how unprofessional it is of the servers to say bad things about their boss to the customers. Disgustingly filthy, crappy service. These are the type of people who would spit in your food. My mother complained about a sticky table and they wiped it with a rag and it did not help, she asked them to do it again and they did get it clean the second time but when my mother got her food there was a piece of chewed up gum on her plate next to her food. We were In for a quick lunch with the family on Friday july 5th. They only had 2 front people working for the day after a holiday. We had to wait up front forever even though they had open tables. With only two people cashing people out, bussing tables and seating it took just way to long. They both were working hard but you can only do so much when short staffed. Shame on the management for running it like this, what a quick way to lose business. Usually this place is way better than this. Went here a while back with my boyfriend to enjoy an early lunch and we where NOT impressed! The service was terrible, took forever to get our order then took even longer to get our food out to us. Sadly by the time we got our food it was only mildly warm like it had been sitting on the counter for a while before we got it.
