Sometimes a store doesn't need to change your life. Sometimes you just need a bathroom, a drink, a snack, and the ability to get back on the road without creating a major expedition. That's exactly where The Village Market IGA came through. We stumbled upon it while traveling and found ourselves in one of those situations every road trip eventually creates: the snack supply was running low, thirst levels were rising, and a restroom stop had become a strategic necessity. The Village Market IGA delivered on all fronts. The place occupies a unique category that I can't quite define. It's either an exceptionally well-stocked convenience store or a small grocery store that accidentally became convenient. Either way, it works. The selection was surprisingly good, making it easy to grab some road snacks and a Snapple before continuing our adventure. The aisles were well stocked, and unlike some roadside stores where your choices are limited to three flavors of regret and an energy drink you've never heard of, there was actually some variety. The bathrooms were relatively clean, which on a road trip is often the difference between a pleasant stop and a story you tell for all the wrong reasons. The staff was friendly, efficient, and moved people through quickly. No drama. No delays. No waiting behind someone trying to decide which lottery tickets would finally change their life. Just a smooth stop and back on the road. Was it life-changing? No. Did I discover the meaning of existence between the Snapple cooler and the potato chips? Also no. But it was clean, convenient, well stocked, and staffed by nice people. And honestly, that's exactly what I wanted. Four stars. Because sometimes competence deserves recognition, and because I left with everything I came for--which is more than I can say for some stores charging twice as much. read more

We live in Townsend and stop in several times a week for what we need. The store is surprisingly well stocked and they truly appreciate your business. Great place, please support them. read more

Great food now that the staff has changed over there, of course it may change again for the worst but when I get lunch the deli is super helpful and patient. The country songs they play are pleasant and fitting for the location but I wished they included rock and roll but I'm not in there that long. The meat section is half the price of public in the deli and they are always willing to drop what they are doing to help a customer at the bar even though it looks under staffed you still get served faster than sonic and you can call in orders and get them fulfilled before you get there. People have a bad experience some times but It seems to be taken care of on the spot not later that week. I enjoy meeting friends there and eating the pre cooked chicken with no issue. It's great for road trips or picnics and cheaper since you pick your own meal out. Everyone has an opinion though just one bad encounter with a new employee may be the reason but cut them a break it's a small town it's not Walmart.. You try finding help there and see how that works for you haha. read more

IGA (Independent Grocers Alliance) has always been the hometown grocer for more than a century, these guys were doing it right long before today's grocery box stores invaded the market place. The folks at IGA understand that shopping local is all about friendly service from people you know and trust. It's about local products that you feel good about eating, it's about supporting your community a lot of times these IGA stores are the cornerstone of the community. A lot of these old stores host the community bulletin boards and you'll always find the local clubs selling their fund raising products just outside the entrance. I find it difficult to not shop at these local IGA Stores while I'm staying in the area staying at the local KOA gave me the opportunity to visit this store several times. I thought the prices here were very fair especially considering they have absolutely no competition, if you feel differently then take the drive to Maryville or Pigeon Forge I don't remember seeing anything closer that I'd buy foodstuffs. I did find it interesting that this IGA also has gas pumps and a separate entrance that operates more like a convenient store inside the same space with its own checkout counter it's really bizarre but at the same time super cool and always really busy. This store was always busy when I drove into the parking lot proving this is the local's choice - one of the things I love about IGA is they always stock items that represent the local culture so if you want to understand a little about the area you're visiting these stores often provide you with that local insight... read more

This is the cutest IGA I've ever seen. It is a cabin vacation town so it's a bit pricier than the average IGA. They had several options for all around necessities and even a gas station. Beautiful view here as well. Definitely convenient location for cabin dwellers. read more

Horrible selection and outrageous prices. They are the only grocery store in town and they know it! We purchased 4 ears of fresh corn placed on a styrofoam plate wrapped in plastic for $6.00. Got back to our cabin and opened the package. The corn had an awful rotten smell and when we pulled the shuck back it was visibly rotten. The older man that checked us out did not speak to us at all even when we spoke to him. " Hi, How are you?" Deadpan stare. This grocery store is a typical small town, they know you don't have any other nearby options, type place. Their prices are high. Much higher than my stores back home in an average cost of living area. The selection is somewhat limited. Both times we were there mid afternoon the deli was closed. The produce was mediocre. We saw several wilted fruits and items that appeared to be going bad. My advice would be to go here for a few necessities until you have time to hit another store for the rest. Great small town grocery store, offering both the products you're familiar with as well as local items. There's a great deli inside, but it's closed on Sundays (or closes early - we went in around 4 and everything was closed up). Too bad because I really wanted to try some of their fried chicken!!! Village Market IGA - Grocery Near Me - Townsend, Tennessee

I have this thing about always needing to stop by an IGA anytime I travel somewhere. I find that I will always stumble across wonderful local items and this IGA was no exception. One of the first things you'll see upon entering is rows of pickled Tennessee veggies, and let me tell ya, I didn't think you could pickle cauliflower and carrots but they proved that you can. Another local item that stood out to us was the all natural apple juice with absolutely no sugar added. They had all kinds of varieties from Mcintosh, fuji, honey crisp, I mean; we were amazed and it was probably the best apple juice I've ever had. We were going to cook that night at the cabin so we got some produce too and it was very fresh, and reasonably priced. Another item that stood out to me was the Amish popcorn. It's about $3.00 for the rainbow corn variety and I've already made popcorn twice with it. Not only is it pleasing to the eye with its colorful kernels, but its got a strong - nuttier flavor than your standard popcorn. They sell prepared food items here and apparently many of the locals are a fan of their fried chicken, I can't tell you personally what it tasted like, but just from looking at it on the display case and the number of people ordering it; it looked good. If I lived here, I'd shop here for sure. read more

This place has low to medium quality meats, dairy and snacks. No organics. No good wines. No good cheeses. Think blocks of cheddar and velveta. I'm surprised that a charming and well visited town like Townsend has not come up with an alternative place that sells better quality groceries. This place is good in a pinch but wish they stepped up their game and offer more quality products. read more

Great little grocery store that isn't that little after all. We needed groceries for the week so this was the recommended spot to shop. It didn't disappoint. Has fresh deli meats and hot plates to go. If you want to not go out to eat all the time and you have a full kitchen, they will have everything you need. In the last 2 years, I've been shopping here more often. Why go to Maryville? Too many times I've gone to Kroger or Food Lion and not found everything on my list, only to stop at IGA and get what I needed. Plus there have been surprise items here, like bakery-made English muffins (so much better than Thomas's). The produce selection is much better than it once was. read more

We're in Townsend for spring break, and this has been our go-to grocery store while we're here. The produce isn't great, but I'm giving this place 4 stars for their frozen biscuits. Seriously! Go to the freezer section and look for the "fresh" frozen biscuits. Not the Grands, but the kind of "off" looking brand. Then go to the refrigerated section next to the dairy and find the sausage gravy in the blue and white box. These are seriously the BEST biscuits I've ever eaten. And the gravy is nice, too, since there's no way I was making homemade gravy on vacation. :-) read more

My phone didn't have reception so I got serendipitously lost and somehow found IGA. It looked like a big gas station at first but great selection and reasonable prices. Great quality and superior customer service are to be found at this wonderful country store on the peaceful side of the Smokies. They have everything you could possibly need to enjoy either your camping trip or your lodging stay in the area. They have fresh meats and produce as well and the friendliest staff around. Best store in the area and a hidden gem in the least likely of places. Will be back. read more

IGA has changed hands in the last year, and it's gotten MUCH better than it was. The meat department is the best I've found in eastern TN. I used to order meat from a mail order company, but now that the new meat manager has taken the reins at IGA, the meat is equal to any fine steak house. Folk actually drive into Townsend from Knoxville just for the meat. Some items in other departments can be a bit more expensive than if you drive the half hour into Maryville, but overall, this is a market the owners can be proud of. read more

I was visiting Townsend last week, and three adults in my party (me included) became very sick with diarrea and vomiting. We traced it back to the strawberries that we all three ate from the IGA. This was the only food item that we all three ate. I was hesitant to buy them because they didn't look very fresh. Beware of the produce! Hopefully this was an isolated incident. read more
