Ok so I hate sitting in the nail salon. I know-it's weird, but I go. This place I've reviewed before and I can't say I've been disappointed yet. The customer service is amazing, atmosphere is relaxing and they always have HGTV on. ‍I like it today I wasn't sure what I wanted. I'm a plain Jane but I like to keep things neat. This time instead of cutting my nails all the way down,I left them long and found a random photo on the internet and showed it to the nail tech. She was like ok- like it was no biggie -I'm thinking they'll prob sprinkle some stars on and send me on my way-NO. Tracy was DRAWING every little star and moon on my nails! I have personally gone to this location many times but I always use the same person. However, as a day of relaxation, I treated someone to a spa and manicure. Her experience was less than satisfying. The gentleman, John, was extremely rough with the manicure using his long nails to push her cuticles back. To the point he made her bleed. He continued on her bleeding finger by trying to use the top coat to stop it. Yes, he put the blood back in the clear polish and I'm sure he is going to use for someone else. I hate when manicurists try to tell me how they want a French manicure to look. I'm the one that needs to look at it, so how about you do what I ask? I got no lip about it from Steve so that's 4 stars in my book right there. I also really appreciated that he took the time to remove my existing gel manicure, being really careful with the file to avoid scraping my skin. While Steve did a beautiful job, unfortunately, my gel manicure just didn't last. In less than a week, one of my nails had started to peel from the side of the nail bed. Just 9 days in, a massive chunk had peeled off another nail--and I'm careful. Other than washing my hands after using the restroom, or while in the shower, these badboys stay gloved and dry. No reason for a gel manicure to be peeling after 9 days other than poor product. read more

I went in with my boyfriend for a nice treat before prom. I was also super excited to show him what it's like to get a pedicure. I set an appointment for 2:30, we showed up around this time but had to wait till about 3:00 until someone saw us. I didn't mind as they seem to take their time and I was in no particular rush. It was nice once we sat down they let my boyfriend sit down next to me in a pedicure chair and put his feet in the water while he waited for someone to work on his feet. Although he did complain from then the water became cold and even when the lady was working on him the water always slipped into a cold temperature. I didn't have this problem so I'm not sure if this was just because of his need for hot water or just an accidental moment. I enjoyed how the metal tools came from the sealed bag which typically shows that they've been sterilized. The only issue was that the file was definitely used on others and my boyfriend pointed out the pumice stone was just rinsed after they used it and put it back in the drawer which makes me wonder if they also clean that. But there's no real evidence to make me strongly think they just reuse things on everyone. I more so noticed the used file and buffer once I was getting my manicure done. I got the slightly more expensive pedicure that can to 30$ I think it was called the spa pedicure. And it was nice. I like the massage and the scrub and hot towel. Definitely a relaxing moment. The ladies were also very nice to use when we explained how we were ticklish when using the pumice stone. They even offered my boyfriend a clear coat on his nails which I thought was super cute. Following the pedicure, the lady that worked on me helped me move my shoes to the chair which was very sweet of her and I appreciated that gesture a lot. I got the sns powder nails which ran be about 40$. I generally have shorter nails because my nails have been going through a period of just being kind of weak. So I didn't add a tip because I wanted them to have a chance to not be too damaged and stressed. I think they did a lovely job on my nails. She was very good at cutting around the cuticle and shaping my nails. Even fixed me being clumsy and slipping my hand ruining the clear coat. But she fixed it which was great. My only issue is that with all the filing some of my nails are a bit too short for my comfort but it's nothing terrible. I read something about having to use a small delegate container for powder when doing the sns nails. I'm not sure about the science behind the cleanliness of what to do, but for people wondering they do just dip the finger into the main pot of powder. There's no small containers per each costumer. Overall, it was a relaxing nice experience. The music was pop music made classical which I personally love. Other than the questionable pumice stone and the hygiene of the tools, the salon looks and feels very nice. The people were very informed of the wants I had and knew a lot about what they were doing. I would definitely go again (but also would pay more attention to what they do with the tools that are supposed to be one use). read more

Manager took advantage of my daughter, charged $20 for 4 designs for my 11 year old but charged my oldest daughter $30 for 10 designs. He saw that my youngest daughter was given the credit to pay for her and her sister nails. When this was discovered I went to discuss the situation and his response was that the more designs you get the cheaper the cost. Unfortunately I did not see that disclaimer written any where. instead of acknowledging the lack of communication he proceeded to tell me that I can pay more for my daughters nails who received 10 design, even though he just said the more deigns you get the less it is. If you want inconsistent pricing then this is the place for you. read more

This is my new go to nail place. Nancy and Jason are experts with acrylic. I have terrible nails that peel and break and suck (spare me, I know acrylic doesn't help) but I'm kind of vain and I like having nice looking nails! Ever since my first visit about a year ago, Nancy has done an incredible job making sure my nails look natural and she listens when I tell her I like the nail to be thin and oval. Recently, Jason has also done my nails and he is the same. Really listens to what I want them to look like and my nails honestly look flawless every time I leave that salon. People are always so surprised when I tell them my nails are fake. They are never ever rude and the entire staff is friendly. They have tons of regulars and a huge variety of colors, especially gel! Their pedicures are also fantastic Compared to other nail spas, Village nails is second to none when it comes to acrylics, I've been to at least 6 other salons in the area and no one gets them as natural looking as Village. I had to give this place an updated review since my experience today was less pleasant than my last two. Today, I received a pedicure and dip manicure. The pedicure was fine, although the man who did it was not at all gentle which made it feel more painful than relaxing at times. They also have a fruit fly problem, and these bugs were flying around while I was getting my pedicure. I have a huge phobia of bugs so this made the entire experience less than pleasant. Despite those two things, I was most disappointed with my manicure. For some reason, the man did not do any type of cuticle care or clean my nails when we got started which gave me the impression that he was cutting corners to save time. Once again, he was not gentle and handled my hands in a very rough manner which was unpleasant. Prices have also increased due to covid which is fair, but I did notice a decrease in the overall quality of service that I received this go around. I felt dissatisfied and rushed at the end of the experience even though my nails look great. I'm not sure that I would stop coming here as the salon is only minutes away from my home, but I will definitely be sure to ask for someone else on my next go around. read more

Most nail salon have a quantity over quality attitude and a lot of them are not the very clean. This is FARRRRR from the truth when it comes to Village Nails. Nestled in the quaint shopping and dining area of Mt. Washington. Village Nails sits on the corner of Newbury st. You will drive right past if you don't know where you are going. I sure did my first time there. Parking is tough but if you drive up the block a bit you can usually find metered (free after 6) parking by the Baltimore Clayworks. Once inside you will be immediately greeted and your wait time is relatively short. I usually go to one particular technician, he was "my first" Tee Hee and he did such a excellent job I see no need to use anyone else. The facility is clean the tools are sterile before they are used and the pedi basins are thoroughly cleaned before each use. You will be offered a hot or cold beverage, Coffee, Tea, water or wine, while you enjoy your spa deluxe pedi (worth the splurge). Every time I am here the patrons are usually regulars, everyone is happy, chatting with their technician and admiring their perfect mani and pedi. I recently stopped into the spa the day of my sisters baby shower. I just so happened to be the hostess and planner of the shower. I NEEDED a minute of me time before the shower, my pedi was gorgeous! My technician made a color suggestion that really complimented my skin. WAIT IT GETS BETTER!!!! A week after the baby shower I traveled over seas to spend 10 days with family. I walked around in flip flops,sandals and barefoot all the time, on the beach and on the road. I was hard on my feet! Well I am back home and I have had my polish on for 4 weeks and my toes are still gorgeous. NO LIE!!!!!!. That shows you cheap polish is not used here. This place is THE BEST. I have been going here since September and they are so consistent. Always clean, friendly and helpful. I get a gel fill and polish every time, $35 (with design $45)- it is worth every penny, always lasting 3-4 weeks! I make appointments, but if you go in the mornings you can easily walk in. After 3, make an appointment. Everyone there is good, but Tammy is effing incredible SO good at shaping and design, I have never left disappointed. One time I saw one of the technicians change the color of someone's nails 5 times before they were happy- no complaints, didn't charge extra, smiling and gracious the whole time. I just moved to Mt. Washington and was looking for a nearby nail salon. Decided to give Village Nails a try. It's a lovely little spot in the Village. There is a small parking lot attached; can probably fit four cars. There was plenty of street parking but I went at 3pm on a Friday, so not sure about parking later in the evening. I was a walk-in and was greeted and seated immediately. I wanted to get my SNS nails removed and a basic manicure. I had two technicians, one who wrapped and soaked my nails and one who actually removed the nails and did my manicure. Both ladies were nice-ish. Not much convo, just worked on my nails. There did seem to be a change in attitude when the technician was doing my nails and I wasn't holding my hand the way she wanted. While she was painting, my fingers started to fall and almost touched the towel while still wet. I didn't understand what she was trying to tell me when she said "Lay your nails flat" (heavy accent) so then she showed me and kinda shook her head in annoyance. I totes understand not wanting to mess up nails and I'm happy to oblige but throw me a friggin bone. I was enthralled in a very intriguing show of Dr. Phil that they were showing. Anyway, once she finished she just walked away. I was like "oh, am I done or...? I asked where to find a dryer and she said share the fan the with lady sitting next to me. Ok, going old school. Right on. I guess most people choose gel manicures so they didn't bother to invest in those bars with nail dryers. Anyway I absolutely loved my manicure and the nail tech did a great job. If I could give this business a -0 rating i would. Why? Let me tell you. This location was suggested to me by a loved one who is a regular here. Long story short, my sister and I had 2 appointments for 4:00. As in, 2 customers, 2 techs. K? K. I should also mention that my sister is 6ft tall and light skinned while I, am 5'2" brown skin, pierced and covered in tattoos. The bovine excrement Sis is immediately shown her seat, she's given a cute briefing about colors and types of gels. She's getting 360 degree service chile..it's cute Me?? Crickets. And we literally walked in together (TWICE-we came early and left for snacks #followme) Hope is ushered to her seat and having meaningful/meaningless banter... Me? No convo-no suggestions-no banter-no service whatsoever. #atall I'm told to put my feet in boiling hot water by the woman that's doing Sissys feet. (I'm going to assume her name is Moon because that's who the appointment was supposed to be with.) The water temperature is lowered to a very basic..very non fragrant, very still, lukewarm. I'm actually sitting in this chair....unattended... with my feet in lukewarm water for 20 minutes running my mouth with Sis when i realize, my 4:00 appointment hasn't started, no one has addressed me, no one has explained anything...and my sisters feet are "in progress"...where in acetone hell is this Rose person my appointment is with??? Mind you, I'm not from here...we're here from Waldorf enroute to punta cana in the morning, so. I pull my feet out of the now cold water and dried off and sat in the car. #cuejeopardymusic Insert car and chill for 20 minutes I calm my nerves and go back inside so that i can 1. Get my ish. And B. find an alternative to the appointment that's apparently not going to happen, at the last minute. I've been to various nail salons (obsessed with gel manicures) in the past few months and it's all been hit or miss but today's experience will have me coming back here! Came for a pedicure by Sunita, who was wonderful! I also was getting gel polish removal at the same time so she offered my a stylus so I could be on my phone, which I've never even thought of before. Genuis! I've been contemplating trying dip nails but my nails are kind of weak from getting solar nails (I tried it once, didn't for it cause i couldn't cut my nails when it got too long). It definitely weakened my naIl bed. However, I love having my nails done so I asked them about dip. I think it was the owner who told me to give my nails a break! I love that he gave me an honest answer and told me they would have to file my nails down for dip nails, which would further weaken them so he told me to let my nails grow and recover, and then come back. I'm sure other nail salons would have told me that it would be fine just to make money. On top of the amazing pedicure, I'm glad I found a place that gives an honest answer about nail health. It may be petty but when I take the time to make an appointment for a specific person and I arrive to see this specific tech with someone already be serviced in their chair I'm left wondering what the f***??? When they ask for your number when you make an appointment but never used that day it to call to see if they could take someone else......again, what the f***? What really made me wonder what the f*** is wrong with these people is when my wife and I sat on the bench at the door when we arrived and NO ONE said good morning, hello, nothing......we sat for a couple of minutes to see if anyone would say anything and they didnt. They knew they were dead wrong for treating my business as if it's not valued, because when my wife went to get her eyebrows done and I walked Jason asked, "where did T....go?" Seemed she couldn't understand me. It was one of the worse pedicures I've received. She didn't even talk to me when she communicates. Just head nods and pushing my feet. No introduction or and words. I had to ask her name for this review. (Michelle gave me an awful experience!!! If you try this place at all definitely don't pick her. The other staff will look at your feet, then make remarks about something. Have no idea what they are saying, but it doesn't matter. It's rude! Seems Cathy noticed my extreme dissatisfaction. I will give Cathy 6 stars. She swapped out and basically redid my pedicure on the spot. She did an excellent job. She took the review from 1 star to 4. The people who run this business are so nice I wish I could give them a better review. When you walk into the "spa" the chemical smell is so powerful, you feel your lungs - let alone theirs! - are in danger. Unlike in other nail salons, the operators are not wearing masks! It concerns me that the place might be inadequately ventilated. Even though I had an appointment, there was a 15 minute wait. Unlike the reviewer who appreciated the extensive foot and leg massage, I'm more interested in having my feet look nice for a couple weeks. You know how when you do your own nails you can't get them all even and paint the edges like a pro? and how when you get a good pedicure it looks like each nail was perfectly shaped and completely painted then placed on your foot like a little gem? My mom and I had a great experience here! We got mani/pedis in preparation for a trip to Mexico. The facility was beautiful, clean, and relaxing. The spa chairs with the massagers are great. The technicians were friendly without being overly chatty; they even asked us about our trip and wished us well. I'll admit that my feet were in rough shape when I went in (lots of callouses in the summer) but when we left my feet were as smooth as a baby's. Our nails turned out really nicely, and lasted for the whole vacation. The price was also relatively inexpensive, compared to most Baltimore salons, and well worth it ($42 for both). Tip: Go on a Sunday morning when they first open...it's not crowded at all, so you'll get all the attention :) read more

I am a full-time sign painter and I am extremely rough with my nails and hands (lots of chemicals/paints and scrubbing/washing on the daily). I have tried home gel kits with a few different brands but I found most of them peeled off completely after less than a week. Regular nail polish never lasts more than a day so I usually don't even bother. When I first came here I had two nails broken past the quick and the rest were very jagged, weak, and peeling. I was desperate to have pretty nails despite my blatant daily abuse of them though! The technician and I talked about putting very short tips on all my nails to save the broken ones and even out everything, in addition to giving my brittle nails a fighting chance underneath. She was very knowledgeable. After tips I got a very thin layer of acrylic to seal and strengthen, and then perfectly shiny gel color on top. It had been over two weeks and despite some very small dings and one nick from being too confident with an xacto knife, ALL MY NAILS STILL LOOKED PERFECT when I went back for fills. I am so impressed and amazed! They were done expertly with no tell-tale thickly textured "fakeness" or wide tips. Everything was applied just thin enough yet still strong, and was shaped very natural looking. The woman who works with me is very personable and was easy to talk to (Her name is Nancy, I cannot vouch for any other tech there). I've gotten a pedicure from her as well...it was the basic one, and exactly as expected. My nails are a source of pride for me now and I have gotten lots of compliments on them. Yay! Overall it is a clean, bright, and welcoming salon. I feel very comfortable and accommodated there. There is no drying area, but it's no big deal to sit in the nice massage chairs and wait the extra five minutes. It is air conditioned and in my opinion well-ventilated. I am wary about city salons but I'm really glad I found this one, it definitely fits the bill for me. I will continue to be a loyal customer and refer other women here! On another note the pizza place right next door is really good so it's kind of a bonus if you do end up having to wait for a bit or are hungry right after! Jason and Kathy are the best! Prior to opening their salon in Mt. Washington I was a loyal client of theirs for 4+ years in the Canton area. Moving to the MD area from Atlanta (where there is quite a few great nail salon/techs) it was scary to start from scratch but I took the plunge and it's been awesome ever since! Both are complete perfectionists and love their craft and I've yet to leave dissatisfied. Gave Village Nails and Spa a try today since my regular place seems to be going down hill. Had a pretty good experience getting a spa pedicure with nail design. Spa is very clean, and modern. It is somewhat small with only four pedicure stations and six nail stations. I called ahead and came during a slow time and didn't have to wait at all. Nail tech did a nice job on my toes, and a different tech did my design. All of the techs were friendly and polite, but not very talkative which was fine. There was a great playlist on the entire time and HGTV playing on the flat screen which I love. The only downside for me is there isn't a drying station so you just have to let your toes air dry which is a little time consuming. Overall had good experience and I'll probably be back. read more

I've been here twice now and for now it's my go to place for getting my nails done near where I live. The place is conveniently located in Mt Washington (this area however can be nightmarish for parking...and it's metered); it is clean with nice massage chairs, good ventilation, large screen tv, bright open space. They use the appropriate hygienic practices (unfortunately, many places don't so it I have to note this). In addition to all this, THEY DO GOOD NAILS; meticulous detail to shaping, cleaning, painting, hot towels, leg/foot massage, good polish (opi), tons of gel colors 50+. Customer service decent, mostly male technicians. The typically blunt broken English question/statement "eyebrows? You need done". Laughable. read more

John was really rough and cut my cuticles multiple times. I requested square shaped toes and instead he cut my toe nails extremely short. during the massage part of my pedicure he didn't even rub the lotion into my legs. my manicure was horrible. The shaping is bad, the acrylic is uneven. i requested a design and instead of just saying she couldn't do it the women proceeded to mess up the design too. I will not be going back. This is extra disappointing because it's my graduation weekend. I would not recommend this salon. I spent over 120 dollars for horrible customer service and even worse nail art. Worst fill-in manicure of my life with John, who acted like he did not want to do my nails even after making me have to return two hours later despite having no other customers present. Jerked my hand and seemed to have an attitude the whole time, while I never once said anything but pick my color and ask for a cut down. Every single one of my nails looks different from the other and he globed on the gel so thick it looks like melted wax when it cured. I paid nearly a $100 for a mani-pedi only to have to redo my nails. Never again. read more
