Village Pantry Deli sits on Bridgetown Pike, Trevose, PA., in the 1960s era commercial zone. It is a true mom & pop operation that specializes in fat hoagies and deli specials of the Eastern European variety. Prices are ridiculously low for 2021. So, if you're hungry and desiring a traditional stuffed sandwich, this is your huckleberry. I stopped in and walked to the back of the shop where a large refrigerated display case was full of smoke meats and tubes of salami, bologna, ham and trays of homemade salads and cultural delicacies like pierogi and stuffed cabbage. I ordered a chicken salad sub, with lettuce, tomato and hot peppers on a long roll, and watched as it was made, wrapped and bagged. With Snapple and Herr's Jalapeno Chips, the cost was under $10. That was a deal and a half, and I didn't have to pay for the ton of old world atmosphere that came with. As I waited, I looked around at all the accessories available. Awesome pound cakes, cookies, Cento pickles and sours, and a wall of cold drinks. Service was friendly, even for this stranger, and there were enough old-time regulars to make this place a hot stove center for local gossip. Very cool. These neighborhood haunts remind of what America used to be when the first generations settled in and started life in the New World. Now, nearly a century later, they have generally aged well, although it has a hardscrabble feel to them with narrow streets, limited parking, and undersized stores and homes that are lovely, but feel somewhat dated. Lucky for me, I love this sort of thing. It provides a getaway from the continual hassles of modern life and Covid anxiety. And, the sandwiches are great!

Delicious rolls. High quality meat and cheeses.(cooper cheese is my favorite) & Really great service. Downside - I wasn't a fan of their off-brand mayonaise. Kind of a big deal since the hoagie was smothered in it. It didn't stop me from putting away 1/2 of my hoagie though... My Beagle took care of the rest. It still blows away wawa or any "chain" sandwich shop that's for sure. Check this place out. I think you'll enjoy it. **side note - they sell stocks pound cake ... but oddly enough it kinda sort of picked up a slight pickle flavor. Wife and kids noticed it as well. Just a heads up... maybe it was a fluke.**

I'm a lucky gal for the small town that I live in, I am blessed with two awesome Italian markets, one makes homemade ravioli's stuffed with you name it http://www.yelp.com/biz/romas-italian-specialty-market-and-deli-feasterville-trevose and this one makes homemade pierogies. Give me a noodle or dough and I'm one happy girl, stuff it with great fillings and I'm yours for life. Both are awesome Italian deli's that offer hoagies on homemade Italian rolls and sandwiches made to order on freshly baked homemade breads. They do a staggering business and know many folks by name. The chit chat is kind of cool to eaves drop in on, amazing what you can learn. I wanted a Reuben and it was on their chalkboard and they told me, over the lunch hour, that their grill was not turned on, ugh, however I will forgive them since they had enough homemade pierogies and stuffed olives and peppers. Needless to say I bought the potato and cheddar pierogies, which are already boiled and can later be sauteed with onions. They make several kinds stuffed with kraut or just potato. The freezers and coolers hold homemade meatballs, pastas, sauces and soups. This time I bought a potato soup which was not very good at all and a white clam chowder, which was thick and creamy and had tender clams, I did have to doctor it up with butter, cream and thyme.. Their bread and rolls sell quickly so you need to shop early. The shelves hold upscale Italian sauces, olives, peppers, pesto's and snacks. Their hoagies come in 12" or 6" and are very reasonably priced. They also have a list of hot sandwiches, just hope the grill is turned on for that Reuben you were thinking about. Their meats and cheeses are priced equivalent to Acme's and are wrapped in a heavy duty waxed butcher's paper, you will need to re-wrap your cold cuts or sausages in plastic when you get home or they will dry out too quickly, although I then put the butcher paper back on so my fridge looks cool. They are open seven days per week for homemade sauces, soups, great sandwiches, specialty Italian products including pasta, freshly baked breads and rolls, olive oils, fresh or frozen homemade pizza dough, stromboli's, homemade pierogies and tomato pie... What's not to like?!

Our not-so-great experience may have been a result of the choices we made, but I'm unsure. When you first enter you are in front of a nicely stocked meat counter, loaded with different deli meats. To the left is a dining area with a sign stating "seat yourself". The place is a bit dated with a nice casual vibe. We were greeted by a server who gave us menus and took our drink orders. Service was top notch. When it came time to order I asked how the pastrami was. Server replied "the best". Ok I'll take a pastrami sandwich, my wife a corned beef. The server also asked if we wanted pickles and tomatoes which I said yes. She quickly brought a little bowl, which I chopped up and we enjoyed. The sandwiches came out and these things could've come from a school cafeteria honestly. A minimal amount of cold, sliced meat along with a small bag of chips was unimpressive. What happened to the warm, thick cut, juicy meat sandwich you could barely get your mouth around that we expected? We looked at each other thinking WTF? No sooner did we notice a sign on the wall "NY style, thick cut pastrami and corned beef NOW AVAILABLE" Now maybe we just don't want to accept responsibility but shouldn't the server have asked if that's what we wanted? Anyway we left hungry and saddened by our $48 experience. Def not worth it.

I had a smaller of breakfast meats, omelet, Rueben for lunch and mozzarella sticks. Everything was cooked well. They have the nice and thin sausage patties. I was surprised at the size of the sausage links. Cooked well for the size. They have thick cut bacon, which is surprising. The potatoes were crisp and they do have the option for well done. The Rueben was stacked with corned beef. The coleslaw wasn't saturated with mayonnaise like a lot are. Overall recommend!

I understand the owner is a local food veteran so this isn't his first foray in sammich construction. I've seen him working away on the few trips I've made so far. The inside kept the same basic footprint of the subway, but the walls are now decorated with large iconic pictures of our beloved sports teams and a few booths were removed to make room for deli takeout equipment. A large deli meat case now sits smack in the middle where the fixins/sandwich prep area of the Subway used to be and a classic pickle barrel is seated to the side of it. Their front window and menu advertise that they roast their own beef, pork and turkey. Their seeded and non seeded rolls are made by Corropolese. So far I've tried three of their offerings: Hot Roast Pork - slow roasted to perfection with gravy (long hots extra). I had it with sharp provolone. They toast the roll and all in all it was a good sandwich that wasn't too sloppy. Hot Turkey - slow roasted (we roast our own) choice of american, provolone, swiss or cooper sharp cheese. Had it on a seeded roll, not bad, but I was expecting thicker cuts of turkey. To me it just came off like deli meat slow roasted with gravy on top. Old Italian Hoagie - sharp provolone, Genoa salami, capicola, pepperoni, roasted peppers, topped w/ peppered ham. Seeded roll. The roll was fresh, the meats were each double layered and the roasted peppers were a nice touch. I would pay extra (and I hope they push it more or make a new variant) to add the extra sharp provolone. The cheese needs a bit more of a bite/presence to make this sandwich shine. Don't get me wrong it's a decent hoagie, but I need more bite. The peppered ham is a welcome addition and provides some punch. Examining their hoagie menu I see no prosciutto. Maybe it'll come in the future (hint hint) :) .... I'd be a huge fan of a mix of meats that included some along with extra sharp provo. The portions are fair as are the prices. Small for most Hoagies are $7.50 large between $8.75-$9.75. The specialty sandwiches will run you a buck or two more than the large hoagies. They also have "farm to table" fresh salads that I'll be trying as well as wraps. I wish these guys luck in Penndel (unfortunately they have it spelled as Pendell) and hope they grow into a staple sandwich maker in the area. They have a good product and the people working there are very kind and friendly so it's easy to root for them to succeed!

He took over and remade a former Subway, bringing full delicatessen sensibility and local color to a commercial zone that really needed a bright coat of paint. Johnny was on hand to take my order yesterday and introduced himself. I got the short story version of his colorful restaurant history, and I realized that I had eaten in his former place on Brownsville Road a few times and enjoyed it tremendously. My expectations rose accordingly. The large front window sign proclaimed the roast beef, turkey and pork were all roasted on site. Good enough suggestion to order a large Roast Beef Hoagie (w provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, hot pepper hash and sweets) on a handsome sesame seeded long torpedo roll. Wrapped tight in white, and our conversation concluded (after sampling the tortellini salad), I drove home to open it up on the kitchen table. First glance at the stuffed sub and my salivaries exploded. It was visually compelling. First bite confirmed that it all worked together perfectly to tantalize my tastebuds. It was a tremendous chomp and chew. Excellent crustiness, followed by folded layers of pink roast beef, provolone and all the rest. This was a mouth party to beat the band. Texture and flavor combined to have me close my eyes and savor the moment. I managed to eat about a third of it, and rolled up the remainder for later enjoyment and family sharing. Deli Fresh is the real deal for Italian style deli delights. They even have a pickle barrel for those who love cukes soured in brine. Its time is now.

There is a long back area for sandwich prep and an army of people there to take your order. On my two lunch trips I encountered one helpful guy and another that seemed annoyed that I asked about their popular menu items. (He did eventually come through with a great recommendation). First sandwich was a "signature hoagie" The Cornaglia - Genoa Salami, Black Pepper Ham, Capicola, Prosciutto, Imported Provolone and Red Peppers for $10. You can switch the red peppers to long hots and bread to a seeded roll. The sandwich was sizable and average. The amount of meat was good and the red peppers were good, but a bit bland. The Provo needed to be more sharp to raise this sandwich up a tier. It's a great price for the portion. Second round I went with a Chicken Caesar Wrap - grilled chicken breast, romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar, Parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing. $9.50. It held together well and was delicious. Great balance of flavors, chicken was seasoned perfectly. As far as wraps go it was a winner for me. The seating area is pretty large. I saw plenty of locals, police, union guys, nurses etc. Checkout staff was nice and thankful for the business. Reen's is the kind of neighborhood deli everyone should have. Thanks guys!
