Social media has opened my eyes to some classic neighborhood gems lately. Chubby's has been around since 2010, and I've driven by it plenty of times, but I was introduced to their sandwiches few weeks ago. I decided to stop by this past weekend to give it a try. I called in my order and the woman on the phone said it would be ready in about 20 minutes. I ordered two Hot Fuzz (one for my fiancé and his friend) and a Tuna Italiana. When I arrived, there were 4 customers inside waiting for their orders and browsing the massive selection of chips. Chubby's also sells beverages so you can make it a complete meal. Additionally, they serve breakfast sandwiches and are open 7 days a week! The Tuna Italiana sandwich really blew me away. The sharp provolone cheese, roasted red peppers and seeded roll made for a really nice flavor profile. Everything tasted fresh. They cut the sandwich in half properly so you aren't struggling to break it apart. Service was pleasant and fast, and prices are reasonable. It's slightly more expensive than Wawa but also more flavorful. Chubby's is my go-to now for deli sandwiches since it's in such close proximity to home. read more

Didn't take many pictures, but I did post a video. Couldn't take pictures while I was absolutely destroying this sandwich from a spot I had never even heard of before today! Wasn't in the mood for a steak (I know, I know...don't crucify me) and I found Chubby's Fox Chase Deli on a google search based on where I was near and stopped in. The woman and man working were very nice. The shop is a tiny corner store with no seating so plan to grab and go. Got the "Turkey Italiana" which was turkey breast with sharp provolone, roasted red peppers, and garlic mayo on a seeded Liscio's roll (they had unseeded too if that's your vibe). This sandwich was excellent, I'm so happy I made this choice today. If you're up in the Northeast area and feeling a hoagie...this one is a winner. Absolutely Didn't Suck! read more

We reside in Fairmount but spend a fair amount of time in the Cheltenham area. After trial & error looking a decent hoagie up there, we found Chubby's. We always get the Old World Italian hoagie, which is great and includes prosciutto & Sharp provolone (!), hot capocolo & sweet soppresata with sweet peppers... in Fairmount, none of the restaurants make Italian hoagies like this (nobody uses prosciutto or sharp provolone), they're thinner, filled with shredded lettuce, and they all cost $2.50 more. So, I think Chubby's hoagies are reasonably priced, good portions, good quality and quite tasty. As for ambiance, it's nothing fancy, a corner store - but it reminds me of the mom & pop deli's that used to dot Fairmount & Manayunk, which have all closed up over the last 15 years. We call in our order, and in 15 minutes it's always ready for pickup, never a problem. So, the Fox Chase neighborhood is lucky to still have a dependable hoagie shop like Chubby's on a residential back street. I always look forward to going there. read more

In recent weeks my travels finally made a couple of stops to Chubby's possible! I found street parking right across from the Deli. The area is safe, quiet and residential. The inside is simple (think corner store - bread, candy, drinks and chips), a bit old school and the area behind the counter was smelling and looking great. I was greeted by the same lady twice. She was pleasant, personable and busy at work. On both lunch visits, I had the pleasure of watching her remove fresh trays of delicious sizzling hot chicken cutlets from the oven into a container. On my first trip, my goal was to try their Old World Italian, but after watching the fresh cutlets come out, the lady up front had me sold on a "Hot Fuzz" sandwich - fresh chicken cutlets, buffalo sauce, blue cheese sauce, lettuce, tomato and pepper jack cheese on a seeded Liscio's roll. The portion size was outstanding and the flavors were off the hook. There was great balance in the flavors and just the right amount of heat. I'm shocked more yelpers haven't tried this wich. It's a winner. On my second trip I tried the Old World (despite walking in on fresh cutlets coming out of the oven ... again!) - Proscuitto, Hot Dried Capicola, Sweet Soppresata & Sharp Provolone on a seeded Liscio's roll. The quantity/portion size was good, but I wasn't blown away by the flavors of the meat. Besides the occasional peppercorn bite from the Soppresata, I felt like it needed a strong peppered ham. The Sharp Provolone was quality and sharp, but it was missing that zing I've had in others. Don't misunderstand overall, it was an above average Italian hoagie, but it's just below the upper tier of a few others I've had in the Northeast. The prices were fair, you're looking at between $11-$15 for a large hoagie. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely repeat to try other options. Their menu board has almost 20 in house "special" hoagies, grinders, breakfast sammys (I believe I heard until 10:30AM), and just about any other hoagie you'd want them to make. My wait wasn't too long on both visits, but calling ahead is an option/good idea. They were pretty busy. Thanks again guys! Really glad I visited. read more

Yes. The ham hoagie and the chicken parm were both top notch. Bread was perfect. Meat ratio perfect . Excellent all the way around .

So far I've ordered take out from here twice. The menu has a lot of interesting sandwiches on it but I still played it safe and ordered the Chicken Parmigiana the first time and a turkey hoagie the second. I liked both sandwiches except there were onions on my hoagie that I had requested not to be there. Honest mistake, I easily picked them off. The chicken parm had a nice cheesy crust but it was the gravy that I enjoyed the most. Not a fan of the seeded roll but you can request a regular one. Definitely going to try something different next time like the Paramedic or the Diver. read more

Very disappointing. Ridiculously overrated. I believe that the good reviews are from uninformed consumers who have never tasted good deli food. The ham and cheese hoagies have the cheapest, most horrible tasting boiled ham imaginable. The Italian hoagies also have cheap, off-tasting meat. The American and Provolone cheeses are okay. The hoagie rolls are delicious but you can buy them at the nearby A**e supermarket for less (buy them early in the morning, when they are the freshest). The service is very slow, the prices high, and the store dirty, old, dark, dreary, and worn out. There is plenty of street parking. The neighborhood is declining as more low class people continue to move there. There are three superior delis within a reasonable driving distance. Spend your hard-earned deli dollars there. read more

Stopped at Chubby's for steak rolls and cheese, provolone and Cooper sharp to make seitan, onion and mushroom faux steak sandwiches. Really nice neighborhood deli. Rolls were fresh, cheese was slice fresh and good thickness, I like thin. I'd stop here again and try a sandwich or more deli items, maybe some salads. read more

Never had a bag hoagie. The paramedic and Italian OG are the fam favs. They got the Liscio's seeded rolls. Miss their breakfast sandwiches.

Chubbys has one of the best breakfast sandwiches in philly and it's not even close. We've had it a few times and it never disappoints. The bread is soft, perfect amount of bacon, and the ketchup/grilled onions combo makes it that much better. read more

To start, yes the food is good. However, I hate to give my money to someone who is miserable and the people who work here are miserable. There are plenty of sandwich shops in and around Fox Chase. This place by far has the best hoagies in Northeast Philly and possibly even the city. This place is a hidden gem tucked away in fox chase. I have been coming here for years. Unfortunately today was my last time. I arrived today around 11:30 and ordered a hoagie just like normal. This was the first time I was here and the owner wasn't. Anyway I went to pay for my order, it was a hoagie, 2 iced teas and a bag of chips. Total was around $14.00. I'm fine with the total that's not my issue. My issue is the lady charged me an additional .47 cents for using a debit card. I've always used my debit card here, I'm literally there at least once a month. I asked what it was and she said it was for a processing fee. Really? .47 cents? Strange.... This was a complete turnoff for me, it's not about the money. It just the point. Sadly Chubby's lost a loyal customer for a processing fee.. read more

Maybe the best deli in Philadelphia, it's definitely one of the best. The "old world" is the perfect Italian hoagie. They don't prioritize in-person orders which doesn't totally make sense to me, but call ahead and the problem is solved. read more

Come here for a sandwich literally every week at least. The portions are huge (enough for two people) and delicious. I have a rotation of about 20 different of their offerings but some of my favorites are the Cuban, Roast Pork Italiana, the Old Man, Saltin Bucca, chicken parm, and Italian/roast beef hoagie. Always on a seeded roll. The neighborhood deli vibes of this place make it welcoming and a real gem of the area. Why get a Wawa sandwich when you can get a much superior and larger meal here? read more

I grew up in Fox Chase and used to go here all the time for this sandwich. It's a roast turkey italiano, one of the best sandwiches I have EVER had.
