I first went here over four decades ago. This was THE go-to place for my parents to pick up hoagies after church on Sundays, a ritual I miss dearly after we moved to Texas as a teenager. So the samich history here runs deep, and this most recent visit did not disappoint. The digs are much cleaner, fancier and probably safer than I remember them, but the sammiches are still fresh, delicious and generous. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many patrons eating in, gathered at some tables in the front of the store for a late morning coffee or something. Had the Italian, a turkey and a Tuscan and all three still hit the spot (there were three of us, and we each sampled each other's sammies - no Joey Chestnuts here). Would highly, highly recommend Village Market for all of your hoagie needs in the Upper and Lower Makefield areas, as well as all of Newtown and Yardley for that matter. Staff got pretty mixed up with my very simple order. I asked for turkey with tomato and spinach on a Kaiser roll. No cheese, no mayo. Went to pay and came back and she tells me the turkey with extra cheese and mayo is on the way. I'm like, no, it's supposed to be no cheese and no mayo. She's like oh yeah, you wanted tomato and lettuce right? Uhh... Nope. Try again. When she realized her error she had to go back and tell they guy but it was too late and he had to make it again. Also, $9 for turkey on roll and a drink is alot in my opinion. The sandwich was decent. Average in flavor but pretty large size. Still not worth the money in my opinion. read more

At the intersection of Stoopville Road and Washington Crossing Road in Lower Makefield, Village Market has been dishing out good breakfast and lunch sandwiches for decades. Their recent upgrade adds to its luster, and the newly engineered intersection makes it easier to get in and out with risk of bodily harm. It is easy to miss the deli section in the white building next to the Exxon station, but try to stop in. VM has a deserved reputation among locals for hearty breakfast sandys and over-stuffed burritos, way above average lunch options (especially Cheesesteaks and Chicken Salad subs and wraps, and even decent fresh coffee. It is primarily a take out joint, and the parking is adequate. The staff moves efficiently and knows what the regulars want. There is a bit of confusion as to who has jurisdiction over Village Market. Although much closer to the center of Newtown, it is actually in Lower Make. Don't let that squabble deter you from sampling their homemade menu. But, if you have the misfortune of being pulled over for speeding on Rt. 513, the police who will be stopping you and issuing the summons are from Lower Makefield, so don't blame Newtown. read more

If you are looking for a Deli/Market that serves great sandwiches the you must give Village Market a shot. It is at the inntersection of Stoopville Rd and 532, Washington Crossing Rd in Lower Makefield. It is more tha a stop for gas when leaving Newtown and going to NJ. For those who know it is a place to get a delicious breakfast sandwich (I recommend the BOB - Breakfast on a Bun) or for lunch there is anything from a good hoagie to tuna salad to an over stuffed cheesesteak. Unlike some other deli's this is a super clean place that actually has a sign before you come in to "wipe your feet". Once inside the lovely hardwood floors, kept very clean, and the easy to manuver inside, makes you feel comfortable. There is an extensive menu of delights and the ordering is simple and the workers very polite. If eating inside the food is brought to you and the check out is always worked by some very friendly people. I just wish they had more tables to eat at in case you were there with more that one friend having lunch. So when traveling by on your way to NJ and stopping for gas; take the walk inside and check it out. Get a sandwich to go or take some time to sit down and enjoy your breakfast or lunch, suck up some local color and soon you will become a regular. read more

I can always count on Village Market when I am hungry. I first moved to the area 1 year ago. My kitchen was under renovation for 6 months. My go to breakfast was and still is an egg white american cheese omelet with turkey sausage inside the omelet. I love creating my own sandwiches from the variety of meats, cheeses, breads and spreads. I can eat as healthy as I want. However, it is hard to turn down the fresh baked goods. Just got an egg salad sandwich to go... Very bland, tons of shell, and packaged terribly. They put sandwiches in a plastic container so it was all over by the time I went to eat it. Food is decent (basic grill, deli items). But the service is abysmal. People just aren't attentive, friendly or courteous. The cashier counter employs lots of younger employees. A few are friendly and say Hi, Hello, Thank you, etc but others just ring you up and walk away. If I was the owner, I would have an employee recognition to reward good customer service. A friendly, 'Hello, can I take your order?' And 'Thank you' and smile goes a long way and it doesn't cost anything. I would also provide a way for customers to comment on good and bad service. I have been driving by this deli now for over a year and finally had the opportunity today to stop in and try one of their sandwiches for lunch. I have to say I was very impressed and will be back again. The staff was friendly, the floors and bathroom were very clean and the sandwich I got was the freshest I have had anywhere in quite some time. I had the roast beef with blue cheese and red onion. The roll was super soft and fresh along with the lettuce and tomatoes and the roast beef was not tough or slimy. Was nice to see also that they use toothpicks on a to go order with a container and not just roll it up in paper like most places. All and all a great experience and will be back again to try another one of the special sandwiches or breakfast next time. read more

This is probably Newtown Township's best kept secret. I have been coming here for years to grab breakfast on the go in the morning. Sometimes I even come here for lunch. Village Market looks like a gas station. In fact it is just that....to the untrained eye. They have a fully functioning kitchen/mini-market inside the building. My personal favorites are 1.) Breakfast on a Bun ("BOB"), 2.) Triple-Decker Chicken Salad Club. It's not an all-star deli, but it's damn good and more convenient than driving into Newtown Borough. Fantastic coffee and baked goods. The coffee selection is plentiful and of great quality. While not a total coffee snob, I do seem to be on the picky side. I enjoy coffee that tastes like coffee - rather than hot brown water. Their baked goods are great and anytime I am in the area I stop. I make it a point to get a buffalo chicken cheesesteak whenever I am in Newtown, regardless of what else I have eaten that day or what time of day it is, for that matter. It is worth it. The sandwich counter / deli portion of Village Market is pretty much what you'd expect out of a sandwich shop. Been here a couple of times. The sandwich's are pretty good and had a nice amount of meat inside of it. One or two reviews made the cheesesteaks seem like they were something special. I wish I ignored those comments and got another deli sandwich instead. Very little meat in it. It's also the garden variety chopped up to hell variety. So yeah, if you read some of the other reviews extolling the virtues of the cheesesteak here...know it's bog standard and nothing special at all. If you want one, sure, it's not bad...just don't be thinking it's something to check out. read more

Great food, nice service. I live close by its great on weekends when you don't want to deal with the crowds in Newtown. Selfishly I wish they were open later, being the closest store to my house. Don't let the image of a gas-station convenience store fool you. This is a legit place. Staff is friendly, and the food is great! DISGUSTING! DIRTY! And generally unaware of their dirt. I went in this afternoon to buy a bottle of water. That's it. Walked by The sandwich making area and there were dirty cloths, food, filth and it just looks very unkempt and disgusting. I went to the cooler and got my 1 L bottle of water and took it to check out. Upon checking out the clerk was bending over moving the dirty floor mat that she previously was standing on she had it in her hands. It was extremely dirty. Before I could get the words out to point out that she just had her hands on this disgusting floor mat, she reached over and grabbed the top of the bottle of water and transferred dirt from the floor mat to the top of the bottle of water. I said really ??! She flippantly said just grab another one. I did. And as I was walking out she was commenting to another customer that I complained ... Stay classy. I guess the four stars are for gas?? Someone should call the Department of Health on these people. I'm not going to because I don't live here. read more
