Went to get takeout and a drink while staying in the area. On a beautiful summer Saturday night, the restaurant was completely dead and it didn't take long to realize why. The manager/owner? was not at all friendly or hospitable. He watched the bartender make my husband's drink completely wrong, then told her afterwards that it was wrong. No offer to replace the drink nor to refund. Bartender claimed they're learning to make drinks "from reading a list". Ordered gluten free baked penne, which is described on the menu as "with mozzarella cheese" the way baked penne usually would be... nope. For over $20, I got a dish of very bland penne with nothing but plain tomato sauce plopped on top. No seasoning, no cheese, not "baked" in any sense of the word. We have loved La Strada for years and today's visit was no different. Classic restaurant whose lineage goes back decades to another location in Charlotte. We stopped last night and enjoyed this place yet again. We visit the area once a year and this is always a stop. We love the view from the restaurant - especially on a day warm enough to sit outside. Post proposal dinner (she said yes). I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Very clean and updated. Staff were very friendly and proactive. Beautiful view from outside looking at the mountains. I don't remember ordering garlic rolls, but we got some anyway. They are delicious, just be careful not to get any of the butter on your clothes. We split a purple haze, and it was awesome! I had chicken Alfredo, she had eggplant parmesan, both were delicious and big portions. We both took ours home for another meal. For dessert we split the cinnamon cheesecake ice cream, which was both huge and delectable! Everything was fairly priced as well. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Was back again 8/26/23 for an overnight visit. Went here for dinner and again, didn't disappoint. For a crowded Saturday night during the peak season, the 8 of us only waited maybe 15 minutes. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with sausage and it was fabulous! It was hot (both temperature and spicy) and had a really great flavor. Although the place was pretty crowded, we still had room to move around. I also love the patio which is nice during the spring and fall when I'm there for weeks at a time. Every bite felt like I was consuming my daily sodium allowance and might go into heart failure. The pizza was so salty!! Even the crust itself was salty. Dominoes and Pizza Hut has better pizza. Even frozen pizza would have tasted better. I would avoid ordering the pizza here at all cost. It was barely edible and overpriced. Service was excellent. Servers were kind. Ambiance was okay. This is the absolute worst Italian restaurant that I have ever eaten at. The Garlic knots were burnt and stale. The eggplant parmesan was breaded mush, the Manicotti tubes were hard and you could tell that the food had been microwaved. Then to literally top it off was the worst red sauce I have ever tasted. And THEN they charge you for $2.50 if you use a credit card!!! This place is about Italian as a can of Chef Boyardee...as a matter of fact save the money and get a can of Chef Boyardee Spaghetti and meatballs. It will be better than what you get here. It's such a great view and always hosting a crowd I have to wonder what others are eating because I was a bit sad. I've never graced this restaurant with my presence nor eaten from here but being the 4th we were limited for a choice. The stars are for service and view, but the food was lack luster and not worth the calories. From very dense heavy garlic rolls to tart Cesar salad dressing forget the rainbow trout as it was coated and fried so greasy versus light and flakey. The other dishes at the table were eggplant parm with bland sauce, ribs which were plentiful and pretty good French fries, but all the sides were cold when served. The view from their covered patio is incredible, the menu has a wide variety of options, and the service never disappoints. Monday-Friday they offer great value lunch specials.
