JCA isn't perfect, but if we are comparing them to the field, I haven't seen another company that comes close. As for getting things fixed myself, just so I am not looking from the outside in, I've had my share of issues including water leaks and pipes busting. I have had no issue getting items fixed from JCA or the previous companies. If residents have an issue that they see as urgent, emails don't really work. I have no issues going in person, making phone calls, or doing something other than waiting for a response on the computer screen.

The only downside is that while shopping for mortgages, I had stated I wanted a mortgage with no escrow (I'd rather manage my money myself and keep the money from the interest myself). John said that was possible, but only for a fee (a percent of the loan). Unfortunately it seems that escrows are built into the underwriting itself, so not much we could really do to get around the fee. Just know that if you don't want to escrow. Otherwise I am very pleased with their services.
