    BLTs and fries
    Corrine B.

Heading back to CT from Burlington, VT, we drove into Rutland and a rain storm so intense, we had to pull over. We happened to be very hungry as well, and were lucky that Village Snack Bar was the first parking lot we came to. We ordered BLTs and hand-cut fries, and went to the screened-in dining area in back. The order came right up, and we dug in. Now, you'd think it's hard to screw up a BLT, right? Well, I've had several. Luckily, the sandwich here was perfect. The ingredients were fresh and tasty, the bacon yummy, and the bread was toasted to a golden crust. The bacon was done in that "Goldilocks" range--not brittle and not gummy, and the fries were delish (and such a generous amount). We followed up our dinner with a little soft serve, also yummy. The people were friendly, the bathroom clean, and the food filled our bellies nicely--just in time for the storm to blow over and be back on the road. Thanks, Village Snack Bar! *Rating: I'm giving 5 stars not because it was an opulent atmosphere with gourmet food. It's a casual atmosphere burger/sandwich shop with good, standard fare. And it's 5 stars for being that.

Grandparents and 6-year old boy had lunch today. No kids meals, so he had the burger combo with fries and large chocolate milk (it was large!). Good sized burger--he could only eat half. I also had the burger but wanted onion rings, so they were separate. I forgot to ask for salt and pepper for my burger. Don't get the onion rings, probably the worst I've ever had. Skinny, soggy with grease, considered taking them back. Stick with the fries, they are correctly cooked Vermont-style fries. I also had a pina-colda (Non-A), and it was very good. Grandma had the Rueben Sandwich, it was as expected and good. That was almost 50$, food is expensive everywhere these days, have to get used to that. The Whole Belly Clam dinner with slaw is 30$. And we did get creemees, they were great. Did I mention don't get the onion rings?

Dill pickle chips, onion rings, burger, grilled hot dog, and chicken fingers! Yum!

We've found this the perfect spot to stop for lunch and ice cream on our way back to NY after a camping trip. The large parking lot makes it easy for us to pull in with our camper, and the spacious outdoor area is great for sitting with our dog. The food...it's delicious!! The dill pickle chips are perfection as are the house battered onion rings. The griddled bun for the hot dog adds great extra flavor, and the burger is one of the best I've had in a long time. Then there's the ice cream! Puts the cherry on top of a great meal! We'll definitely be back next time we're in Rutland. So glad we found this little gem!

Great steak and cheese, shrimp, ice cream. Service was fast. Umbrellas outside would be nice.

Green mountain burger and Bacon cheeseburger were top notch. The fries were perfectly seasoned.

They have great pricing here. My partner and I shared some incredible fried cheese curds. I highly recommend ordering those, they were incredible. My burger was good too. You order your food and pay up front and then they bring the food to you. There was one server that was extremely short with us, the other one was really sweet. There is a lot of seating available inside. The walls are lined with animal heads, so gives it a rustic hunting feel. I was most excited to try Vermont's signature: a maple creamee. Keep in mind they give you huge servings of this delicious soft serve. My partner and I shared a medium and could barely finish it. It tasted like delicious buttery maple syrup pancakes. If you're looking for affordable, local fast food, the Maple Angus is a good pick.

It started as a food truck and now it's a brick and mortar although they still cater. We have been here 3x in a week the food is excellent!! They have a huge indoor space and picnic tables outside as well. There is a walk up ice cream window. Lots of options, steak/burgers/pizza, all of the regular fried goodies- mushrooms, fries, onion rings etc. The family runs it and they are wonderful people. They run their specials on their facebook page. They have maple creemees & this one is excellent. They also have black raspberry soft serve which I didn't know existed and am now obsessed with, I am not sure if it's a special though ha. Support local and eat this delicious food!!

All their pancakes are amazing, even though with my sodium issue I only get a taste of my husband's. My ole favorites were Pumpkin and their classic Sugar & Spice with the perfect amount of sweetness and spice mix. I wish they would serve saltless grits! That would make this girl happy! I only eat a couple of the potatoes, they are very tasty however salt is used or the rest of you wouldn't be eating them....am I right! Of course, my eggs were cooked perfectly! We finally decided to try out S&S and I found it good, but not worth the 5 stars everyone gives it pancakes = well cooked, round, pretty standard. don't get 4 pancakes unless you want be in a pancake induced coma. also, they put a literal small ice cream scoop size of butter on the pancakes. Only IHOP does that and it's way too much butter. If you are eating all of that butter, you might need an extra dose of lipitor. Toast = kind of boring S&S pancakes = kind of tasted like pancakes with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Home fries = those were good I was there with two 16-year olds who both thought the food was "mid". I did see a small girl sitting with plate in front of her that had a waffle with ice cream and whipped cream piled so high, that it was almost as tall as her. Her eyes were huge and she was trying to figure out where to start. That waffle looked pretty good and as I passed the table, her dad was leaning in to "help out and keep the plate clean". They sell a lot of baseball hats and t-shirts.
