This is one of those great local businesses with a friendly owner and helpful and knowledgeable staff. Not only do they have a great selection of wines, they have an impressive liquor collection too. Don't be intimidated by all the choices of wine, they will be happy to help you pick out something in your type & price range. The prices are not outrageous, but in line with the caliber of the wine you are buying. You can splurge if you want to, but you can also get something for everyday without breaking the bank. I did a wine tasting here and I was really impressed with how knowledgable Zack the owner was not only about wine and the different types, but the different regions around the world and the grapes that go into making a wine taste like it does. He also taught us about oak barrels and how that imparts flavor. And finally he shared some of the history of the area which was fun. I was here for a tasting and I really enjoyed the experience. The owner is very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and funny. Despite how knowledgable he is it never comes off as intimidating in any way. It seems that he truly enjoys talking to people about wine and helping them discover their likes. The shop also has a small humidor with a sampling of cigars. The staff is also willing to take requests and try to get you limited or hard to find items. After finding Village Wine Shop at Yelp, I called and spoke to Zach. He went above and beyond the call of duty to get my order delivered that same day. There was a bit of a problem when the recipients were not at home, but Zach kept me informed with several phone calls as to what was happening every step of the way. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place. I called at noon on the opening day of a Tigers game and needed a last minute than you bottle of wine sent to downtown Detroit. Rather than tell me it was impossible because of game traffic craziness, Zack said he'd figure out a way to get it done, even if he had to Uber it! (And it was a very small order- just one bottle!). He went above and beyond. He was so accommodating, easy to work with, and very knowledgeable about his products- they have a very impressive inventory.
