We decided to make a reservation here to 1) support a small restaurant and 2) have a nice environment for date night. We were running slightly late for our reservation due to traffic and they were understanding and accommodating to our 10min lateness. Our waitress Hannah was amazing! She was so good upon leaving we asked if we could have her wait our table again in the future. We had the zero proof drinks and they were heavy on the cream and soda but tasted good. The garlic oil for the bread was very tasty. The meatball appetizer was moist and tasty. The main courses of chicken parm and gnocchi with prosciutto were extremely large portions. You definitely get your money worth and they tasted great as well. Add to that the amazing service from Hannah and that is what gets 5 starts. The price of dinner was equal to the food taste, food portions and service. The only negative we have is that parking was challenging and if you pick a peak day and time like Friday or Saturday afternoon and evening you will need to set aside 15min to find parking. read more

I NEVER do a review. I had to download yelp but I was compelled to do so. Our servers name was Kelli. She honestly was the best person that ever waited on us. We came to villafgo a few years ago and thought it was ok. Tonight I told my husband it had to of changed ownership. We found out it did not. The food was amazing. However, if you get lucky enough to get Kelli for a server you have been introduced to fun dining at its best. I can not recommend the restaurant enough but honestly Kelli is who you want. What a wonderful dining experience. We were in town for a business meeting and enjoyed a delicious dinner. I'd strongly suggest the Glass Slipper cocktail. I enjoyed a Caesar Salad, the Lobster-Stuffed Ravioli special, and Tiramisu. My colleague had the Veal Parmesan. Both were delicious! We had adequate service. Wine was really good. My friend and I had a truly memorable meal last night. We chose the ravioli roses and the Burrata as appetizers. We shared both. Both were exceptional, unique and flavorful. The eggplant and tomato relish was such a surprise. We had the lamb chops and pork chop as mains. Again both were fantastic. For dessert we shared tiramisu. The cream was stellar. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu ingredients. Everything was delightful. I had a Negroni, which was very nice. The other featured cocktails seemed too sweet for me. Love everything about Villagio! It's always in my top 5 (probably top 3!) in the Pinehurst/Southern Pines fine dining restaurants. I love that their wine list features many non-domestic red wines, especially the old world ones, the menu is always phenomenal and the Branzino we had most recently was a total standout. We chose the grilled calamari for our appetizer- very different preparation from most, we enjoyed it but it probably wouldn't be our regular go-to as it was quite chewy, but as I said also tasty. We went recently as we had heard good things about this restaurant. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was nice, the table had chairs that didn't fit on the area carpet, three feet on carpet, 1 off... so I sat on a seesaw adventure for dinner. We had a great wine recommendation, bread was really good, however the main courses were blah, not even close to authentic Italian and lacked any kind of craft. The Veal Marsala had a thin sweet sauce and the pasta was bland as was the dish. The risotto was overwhelming with the lemon and none of the flavors were balanced. It was starchy and not that silky creamy melt in your mouth risotto. Both dishes were terrible. The gelato was very good. Rich creamy, used pure vanilla beans, properly executed and quite delicious. Also over priced for what we got. We won't be back too many other amazing restaurants in the area. read more

I had the worst experience on Valentine's Day when an establishment is hyper sensitive to romance and ambience and this place has neither. There is no atmosphere and the food is average. I'm actually embarrassed for them. I beg you not to waste your money. They either don't care or maybe worse don't know and thought they could up charge. Our group of six went to Villaggio with high hopes, but ultimately left disappointed. The staff was friendly and the ambiance was passable, but aside from that, the place is a faux fancy, overpriced disappointment. SPEED One of the biggest complaints was the speed of service. When our entrees finally arrived, we asked for three things: a bottle of wine, some fresh bread and a silverware setting (to replace one that fell on the floor.) We were nearly finished eating by the time the wine, bread and silverware materialized. We should have cancelled the wine because it wasn't even the right bottle. Same vineyard, but a different varietal. To their credit, they corrected the mistake, but we were finished eating by the time the replacement bottle arrived. TEMPERATURE We suspect the food was sitting a long time because when the food arrived, it was barely warm, and the center of my lasagna was cold. And it wasn't just one plate with temperature issues. The lasagna, lobster ravioli special and chicken piccata were all cold. We would have said something to the server, but she didn't reappear until we had finished eating. VALUE Everything was extremely expensive for the portions, quality and service we received. For a $28 modest-sized, cold lasagna, you'd think they could at least throw in a side salad or vegetable. Lastly, our group was celebrating a milestone birthday, for which the server was "preparing a surprise dessert." I'm not sure what happened, but it never showed up. We didn't bother saying anything because we didn't want to wait an hour before the server returned. I should also mention the restaurant acknowledged the wine mixup - which was an honest mistake - but did nothing to recover the service failure. This was my first and last time visiting Villaggio. To the Dedman family who is "shepherding the restaurant into a new era," I hope you consider this feedback a gift and adjust accordingly. read more

My husband and I have been here quite a few times and it was usually wonderful. We decided to bring my mother and father in law while they are visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday. Huge mistake. The Carbonara was not good at all. It had really large chewy pieces of over-cooked bacon. We also inquired about getting a pear martini which they have offered in the past. They declined to make one even though they have a full bar and the ingredients to make the drink are listed on the drink menu. I was also not pleased that I was facing an actual toilet throughout my meal. This was far from a fine dining experience. read more

Located in the old Magnolia Inn, Villagio is the brainchild of veteran restauranteur's Ron and Julie Milton who bought the Inn and renovated it in 2019. What makes Villagio an exceptional dining experience starts with the service. Sadly something that is slowly disappearing in the restaurant world. On this night we had the pleasure of having Kelli as our server, who has also served us several times over the last few years. She is a true gift to Villagio. She is the finest example of professionalism and mastery of the art of fine dining. She is there when you need her to be, yet never intrusive. Her attention to detail is something unfathomable. Just watch her go over a table setting and you will amazed at her artistry. As for our dinner, let's start with something that I with touch on later in this review. First, Villagio bills itself as authentic northern Italian cuisine. While this is partly true, it is an Americanized version. Not that this is necessarily bad. But portions are for Americans and the food is rich, so plan what you order with that in mind. We did not on this occasion, my wife's birthday, and we could barely stand up from the table. On a previous visit we were given a complimentary plate of the appetizer 'Rosette al forno'. It is the creamiest pasta dish stuffed and baked with Fontina, Prosciutto, Mascarpone & Besciamella Sauce. It is beyond incredible. The saltiness of the Prosciutto balances the creaminess of the cheeses and the rich Béchamel sauce, (Béchamel is a French mother sauce of milk,flower and butter), although thicker than I ever imagined, just took the pasta to paradise. As well the pasta was cooked Al dente as it should be. We both ordered the same appetizer but this could truly be shared. For the next course my wife ordered the burrata. Villagio prides itself on making fresh bread, butter, pasta, sauces and cheeses daily which is an amazing feat with the exception of the burrata. It is brought in. But it was so beautiful, creamy and unctuous it felt like they made that day. I opted for the Caesar salad which I always do. I make it at home a lot but always love it out as well. Here's one of those non authentic northern Italian dishes. Although it may be on menus for American travelers, Caesar salad was invented in the early 1920s by Caesar Cardini, an Italian chef who owned a restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico. The real element that make this salad shine at Villagio is the balance between the garlic and the creamy egg. As well if desired, and I highly recommend, they will add anchovies. Now I know many may not like anchovies, mostly because they have only had the little brown, overtly fishy and salty ones that get flung on pizzas. These are the more expensive white anchovies that taste nothing like their cousins. On this evening it made the dish. Lastly...the entree's. My wife opted for spaghetti Carbonara. Spaghetti tossed with Guanciale, Egg Yolk, Pecorino Romano, and Cracked Black Pepper. This is a dish of specious origin although it is most commonly a dish from the Rome region and not the north. But since it's origin is speculative, it can be adopted. The chef here has made what might be a Villagio signature dish. It is made very Italian. As authentic as it can be. The Gaunciale is just the salt and succulence the dish deserves and the egg sauce Devine. I don't know if the chef added back any pasta water but I prefer my pasta slightly less thick. Either way, it's fantastic and overly American sized. As for my entree I ordered the Fileto al pepe verde, or in the French world, Steak au poivre. It is one of the quintessential French dishes seen in most brasserie's and homes and my favorite dish. I Have been eating it since a was a child and this version is one of the best to date. The green peppercorn sauce was as I love it, with the corns soaked in a brandy or cognac. It was served over mash potato's that were just rustic enough and creamy along side of either broccolini or broccoli rabe. Either way it was not the least bitter and very buttery. Okay here's where it all shines, the filet. A generous 7oz of the most tender steak on earth. I ordered it rare and it came out seared beautifully on all sides and extremely rare inside. Not everyone's cup of tea but once tried you may get hooked. The taste of the blood with the sauce is a thing of intense beauty. The steak of dream. So there you have my opus. Called at 6 to see if they could fit two for dinner, they found space for us at 6:45. Service was excellent among all the staff, particularly our server, Carrie. We shared a Caprese salad. I had the ravioli special stuffed with artichoke, chicken and cheese. My wife had parmesan and spinach encrusted cod. Both dishes were excellent. We both took a dessert, a rarity as we usually split one. The tiramisu was one of the best I've ever had. The flourless chocolate tort was also excellent. There is no one to take reservations during the day but I left my number and someone did return my call. Tip - call well in advance for reservations as they will have to call you back. This was a special occasion and we were seated in a back room with a huge air conditioner placed on a chair. Not nice at all. Hopefully this has been corrected. I asked for another table due to this unpleasant ambiance but they were booked. Tip -Be sure to ask about this when you call for reservations - you do not want to be in the room with the AC!!!! My wife throughly enjoyed the her dish and my fillet was one of the best I've ever had! It was out anniversary and the staff surprised us both with dessert!
