My dad suggested changes, was vocal about needed changes in the service he was paying for and was rewarded with a termination of his rental agreement while he was suffering from pneumonia. Solstice Senior Living corporate was also made aware of these circumstances, on several occasions, all of which were ignored. My dad has moved to his own little house and is much happier! Do not subject anyone you care about to the abusive treatment of Solstice Senior Living.

Let me give you an example, Norma Bujanda would complain my mother used too much electricity. My mother had one night stand light, a tv and a computer with a mini fridge in her room. The electric she used was about 8 dollars/month. Norma Bujanda would go into my mothers room and yell at her, berating her to the point my mom had to cover her ears with her hands and then started crying. APS was called multiple times. She came up with every excuse she could and made it a hostile environment to force my 86 year old bed and chair ridden geriatric patient out. She complained to me how she didn't get enough money for the room and I believe that was the reason for why she did what she did to my mother. Norma Bujanda comes across as this nice caring lady, in fact in my opinion she is the exact opposite.

Not the overflowing trash containers, not the cigarette butts their staff throw on the ground, not the old, stained mattress leaning against the trash, not the weeds that are over 5 ft tall, not the decaying gate and fence in the back. Not the sidewalk surrounding their facility, not the palm tree whose leaves hang over the sidewalk, making it difficult to walk because it's in the way. They won't post pictures about the goat head plants that are invading their yard, they won't mention the mosquitoes breeding grounds they have going on in the tall weeds they continue to water 3 times a week. They won't post pictures of the broken window screens, the a/c units without covers on the back. They won't tell you about last year, when their water sprinklers ran for 24 hours, and when called, they claimed they don't have a maintenance crew, after not answering the phone for hours. I don't know how they treat the people who live there, but, based on the outside, I would imagine not too good.

Most of the building is still being renovated by updating most of the fixtures, vacated rooms, and common areas. I am elated when visiting Mom who seems to be very comfortable and satisfied of the employees who care for her daily. Her health and safety are my main concerns by the people I must rely on and trust to care for her who I have made an effort to know each one of them. They have improved satisfactorily in the last 3 1/2 years at this location compared to the many years Mom had been a resident at an old Sunridge location that was closed down three years ago. Their rate for assisted living has increased due to the economy but is well worth it considering everything that has improved for the betterment of everyone - employees and residents.

While all of the other residents were dressed daily, they never took our mother out of her hospital gown even though we had 8 outfits available to staff. Instead, she was escorted to Rosary, physical therapy... everything in her hospital gown. We asked for a care team meeting so we could address issues like bathroom cleanliness, her medication, goals, dressing, physical therapy, speech therapy, hydration. Everything was forgotten by the very next day and they even went as far as saying that an issue we were concerned about that day wasn't agreed upon in the meeting the preceding day. They even disclosed information that we weren't aware of from WBAMC (a cancer concern)... not to inform us but to leverage their position against us. The staff were always immediately on the defensive whenever we raised a concern in our mother's care. Not good people and no way to run a care center. We moved our mother to another facility and, on the way there she said "You saved me! God bless you for saving me!". Broke our hearts. Never again and will never recommend. I wonder if anyone else has noticed that many of the one very reputable care centers in El Paso have declined drastically post-COVID.

They were able to get me in within two weeks and at a time that worked for me. To speed up the process they also gave me the paperwork when scheduling my appointment and told me I could just bring it with when I came back. Efficiency. Everyone that I interacted with was friendly and cheerful. I even appreciated that the doctor didn't try to confuse me in any way and actually set straight a lot of misinformation I was given by my previous doctor/salesperson. You know the best part... the glaucoma machine. You know the machine that blows air into your eyes to test the pressure? At the previous optometrist, I'd always "fail" the test and then I'd have to go through the process of having my eyes dilated which always sucks because driving after is the worst. FBOC's glaucoma machine was actually able to give a real reading because it was a quick push of air instead of the long shot of air that was always forced my eyes to shut. No dilation, YAY! Pretty smooth process and from start to finish was maybe an hour of my time. The staff is great. And I felt like they really went the extra mile with everything... the doctor even decided it was best to do a follow up appointment since there was some uncertainty with my contacts. I paid out of pocket and felt that the price for a contact and glasses prescription was reasonable at $129 (and that included the trial pair of contact lenses).

Whenever you'd ask for something to be done, it mostly got done. The apartments in the independent living section of the retirement community were spacious. The apartments typically had one bedroom, a bathroom, a small kitchen with appliances and a living room area. The bathroom didn't have a bathtub but the shower was big. There was also a few closets. The residents upstairs have a balcony. It has enough room to put in a small table with chairs. The balcony also had a small room for storage. There's also laundry rooms and a driver for the residents. They are able to order all three meals from their kitchen. If not, meals can be prepared in their own kitchen. The food is pretty good from here. My favorite desserts were the spumoni and tiramisu cake. They are wonderful! Their Mexican and Chinese food is also pretty good. Prior to the pandemic, residents were invited to social hour, Bingo, outings to restaurants, live music and more in their activity room or lobby. The staff still provides them with activities to do in their apartment these days. I'm going to say it's pricey to live here.

They get annoyed by dealing with the kids, if we the kids have questions on the $$$ charges and really are not helpful to understand beyond: that is how it is! They are not upfront on the costs. Admin staff really need to understand that not all people talk and understand the process of Medicare, Medicaid and we don't know all the options, and them being the professionals don't help out to make it more understandable so they leave you hanging with all this doubts and questions. Other big minus is their medical staff (or lack off) they only have 1 doctor that visits the patients for less than 1 minute and they make the residents try to schedule an appointment for which they wait maybe 8-10 days and the doctor is so unprofessional that skips or forgets so if your elder or rehab patient needs primary doctors review good luck!
