Found this spot after reading some reviews and I have to say the food was very very good. It looks like a bit of a dive but aside from that, worth it. The best part and the biggest surprise were the tamales. They were selling them outside the restaurant along with elotes. After ordering a couple with dinner I decided to purchase a dozen on our way out the door. These are hands down the best tamales I've ever had. I wish i had bought 6-7 dozen more to throw in the freezer-absolutely amazing!!! Next time we make the trip to Choctaw Casino we will be back. read more

Some friends recommended this place so highly we went the next day. We were not disappointed! It was crowded and we had a larger party but sat quickly. Super clean. Our waiter was awesome and quick. Everything on the table was delicious!!. If you like hotter salsa ask for the green :). We all got different fajitas...Carlito's fajitas with beef was my favorite but a few got the one with bacon and said it was amazing too. Seemed pretty busy but they had their system made it work. They were out of menudo which they serve only on weekends but only cook so much. Disappointed there. I decided on a torta, pork style. Best Mexican food in Durant! What Jalapeños used to be. Smaller place but fantastic flavor

I was warned by the hotel clerk that the place was a hole-in-the wall, but it was her favorite Mexican restaurant in Durant. A pizza delivery guy listening in on our conversation in the hotel lobby agreed. OK, the place wasn't listed on Yelp! (yet), but with two spontaneous recommendations, I gave it a try. Villegas Carniceria is a combination bakery, meat market and restaurant. Eight tables are squeezed in between racks of baked breads and pastries and produce and meat counters. If the cooks in the kitchen need any extra ingredients, well, they're right there in the store. The fajitas looked and smelled great, but on this night, I went with the basics: a crispy beef taco and an enchilada. They were really good. Everything was fresh. (For some reason, tacos and enchiladas are almost hidden on the back of the extensive menu). Diners are offered a free small bowl of queso to go with the complimentary chips. The salsa could use some more jalapeños, but some spicier sauce is available. It turns out Villegas has been in business for years. Apparently, until now, only the locals knew. read more

The locals said this was the Mexican spot to go to in town so my girl friend and I wanted to check it out. Being from so cal . We experience a lot of good Mexican so we wanted to eat something familiar to home. And boy did it hit the spot. My go to is a Chile Relleno and omg there's was one of the best I've had. The cheese sauce on top was amazing. The service was ok it kinda seemed that because we looked like we were from out of town we kinda were treated short and a little attitude but maybe that how they are here. I mean the server seemed to be sitting down a lot in the front on her down time but being in the service industry for 15 years we all know there is plenty to do. I saw plates on other tables she could have at least been pre bussing or even refilling drinks. But it's fine. So, shout out to the kitchen staff for making this experience good. Has always been my favorite Mexican restaurant... until yesterday. 10+ minute wait to be seated (no one spoke to us prior to seating or even acknowledged us standing there). 30+ minutes for a cheese enchilada plate... and then I see it get tossed in the microwave before it is brought to the table. The cheese in the enchilada wasn't even melted... at all... Unacceptable, and sad... I guess I'll have to find a New Mexican place. Found this place using Yelp - it was rated well, so we decided to try it. Pulled into the parking lot and from the outside thought we had made a mistake - it's a hole in the wall without a sign. This place is excellent. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. There was no wait time to be seated. They make the most unusual chile rellenos I have ever seen. They put the cheese underneath a filleted Pabalano Pepper with no stem and put chili without beans over the top of it and then put cheddar cheese on top of that. They are served with rice and beans.
