Great Gym, helpful staff. They newly remodeled and added a turf area for floor exercises.

As a personal trainer and health and wellness coach, I've been to a number of gyms across the East Bay, and Vim and Vigor genuinely has the potential to be one of the best in the area. Unfortunately, my recent experience with the manager makes it hard to recommend right now. I was billed twice for my membership due to what appeared to be a billing error on the gym's end. An associate worked with me to resolve it, and as far as I knew, the issue was fixed. About a week later, however, the same double-billing issue happened again. When I brought it up with the same associate, he advised me to speak with the manager directly. A few days later, I sat down with the manager and explained the full situation: I had been charged twice, an associate had already tried (unsuccessfully) to resolve it, and I was now dealing with the same problem again. Throughout the conversation, the manager came across as visibly disinterested and annoyed. When I jokingly suggested we could call it even if I just grabbed a protein shake from their fridge, he responded with, "I don't see why you think you're entitled to one. It's not my problem." When I explained that I felt entitled to a refund -- both because the double billing was their error and because the issue persisted even after I'd already sought help from an associate -- he flatly refused. He then told me he intended to write up the associate who had tried to help me, which frankly felt like retaliation for the associate simply doing his job. Afterward, I mentioned what happened to another staff member, who wasn't surprised at all and openly referred to this manager as the "worst manager" they'd worked under. This gym has real potential, but as long as this manager is in charge of handling member issues, I don't see it living up to it. I the meantime, I recommend UFC Gym, 24 Hr Fitness or even Planet Fitness. I sincerely hope upper management takes note and makes a change. read more

Wow does it pain me to write this but management has removed the previous water massage beds for new ones that only allow you to use for ten mins once a day. That's it. Ten mins a day is all we get. This was never an issue previously. I understand wanting to limit usage so folks don't hog the machines, but considering this is the ONE thing we have (no showers, no classes, no private workout rooms, no pool, no sauna, the list goes on) I'm disappointed that it's been cut down to this measly amount. We literally pay extra for these services and can't even get this right. I would cancel membership but my trainer Brian is amazing and the staff and manager are all phenomenal. Whoever is running this gym at the top needs to get it together -- quickly. read more

The water massage chairs were removed and they brought in new massage chairs they hurt and squeeze you I have been going here to vim and vigor for years when it was fitness 19 too Now I want to cancel my membership because I pay extra for the massage chairs but these hurt my neck and back please have them bring in hydro massage beds and get rid of these. read more

They took over my account after the facility was sold to them. I canceled, but they continued to bill. They made a damn near impossible to cancel and once I did, refused to refund me any of my funds, even though they knew that I hadn't been there. Real shady. read more

This was one of the most unprofessional experiences I have ever had at a gym. The tall employee with blonde hair repeatedly made insulting comments about my appearance and weight while I was there trying to improve my health and fitness. Mocking a member's appearance is completely unacceptable and has no place in a professional environment. The newer employee with the shaved head falsely accused me of using a sexual slur, which I categorically denied. When I confronted him about making a false accusation, he became visibly emotional and stopped engaging in the conversation and shed a tear in the corner. During the interaction, the taller employee asked if I was "going to do something about it" and stood up in a manner that I perceived as intimidating. Instead of de-escalating the situation, both employees contributed to an increasingly hostile and uncomfortable environment. I expect gym staff to treat members with respect and professionalism. Personal insults, false accusations, and intimidating behavior are unacceptable. I strongly urge management to review any available security footage, speak with witnesses, and thoroughly investigate this incident. read more

I decided to check out this gym. I have been needing to switch gyms as my old one did not have a lot of things to do. So I went there, and let's just say it was not the best experience. For one thing, it was freezing in the gym. It was also very tiny, there was not a lot to do. The treadmills don't even work properly either. I keep getting a message asking me to put my weight in as well as my time limit. I have never used a treadmill like that before. And once I started getting into it, it stopped. It also didn't help that the gym was a 20-25 min drive away from my place either. Definitely not worth it. I think I'll go back to my old gym after this experience. read more

I usually come in the mornings between 5 or 6am. Unfortunately today no one was there to open the gym but I decided to wait for a while. Elias showed up and opened the gym and after speaking with him I found out he wasn't even scheduled to come in the morning today. So at 6am when he is supposed to be off he came in and saved the day so the morning crew could get our workout in. Not to mention he's always had great customer service. My gym over 7 years and love this place ! Stuff very nice and professional ! The gym is fine for what it is, a no frills neighborhood gym to get in and get some resistance training or cardio. Glad to see some improvements are being made, including going from 2 power racks to 6, and adding stair stepping machines, and replacing all the free weights and some of the benches. They're closed for 3 weeks right now for a remodel/expansion and hopefully some new equipment as well. Don't come here expecting much in the way of amenities like a sauna and all that stuff. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but more of a 3 than a 4. Likely increases with the remodel though! read more

The culture of the gym has changed significantly. It used to be that individuals went to the gym primarily to work out, and they would receive praise for their efforts or, at the very least, be left alone. However, it now seems to focus more on selling products and services, often at the expense of members' finances. I have only a handful of staff members I appreciate at this gym, including my exceptional personal trainer, Vicki, and Marlon. Vicki is the main reason I continue to attend the gym; however, I haven't been there in the past couple of weeks because some staff members have been giving me unfriendly looks (though I am not sure why). I had been going to Fitness 19 for many, many years. It was a decent gym and had what I needed for the most part. A couple things that I did not like about it at the time was the loud music that often played as well as the fact that you had to wait for equipment sometimes. In a small gym like that, that is to be expected. I started going back after the renovation was done under the new ownership of Vim and Vigor. I was a little skeptical, but I have to admit, I absolutely love it! The gym feels so much more spacious and comfortable. I look forward to going much more than I did before. I wanted to mention Brandon and Darrell, two of the front desk employees that were super helpful today. I've been trying to get my app to work and they helped me try to straighten it out. They both went above and beyond and I am appreciative of their exemplary customer service. One of my pet peeves was and still is, the amount of people who park themselves on a piece of equipment and stare at their phone for 20 minutes or more. We're all distracted but pay attention to your surroundings and have awareness for other gym members who are often there for a limited time or on a tight schedule. If you're going to be on your phone step out of the equipment area. I highly recommend this facility ! read more

first class equipment, kept clean and well-maintained. Most of the staff is friendly. Only downsides: over-stocked in the olympic racks and under-stocked with only 1 reverse fly, one sit-up station (that doesn't rock and jerk mid-motion) and one leg curl station. Because of this, most of the olympic competition racks go unused and the three stations I mentioned are almost always occupied often making it difficult to get time on them. They also need to check their (only 2) wipe cloth stations and garbage cans more often. The wipe cloth is often empty for and the garbage can overflowing for longer than reasonable periods given the number of staff sitting and chatting at the front desk. read more

It's a great gym with all the equipment you could ask for and also the people who work and go there are fantastic.

Pretty great gym. Would recommend to anyone whether you're just getting started or already a serious lifter. They do their job keeping it clean for the most part. My only complaint is that I wish they had an extra quad extension, it can be hard to get the one they have whenever it's a little busy. Other than that great gym for what you're paying. read more

Just went to the gym to find that the renovations have apparently started. Gym was obviously unusable as contractors were at work. Last went to the gym on Friday, 7/12/24 and there were no notices that renovations were going to start or how long the gym would be unaccessible. Also tried to call to see if there was at least a message, but no, the phone number doesn't even have a voicemail attached. Additionally, referenced the gym's website and there is no information posted about the renovation. Management needs to do a better job notifying their clients if they want to maintain/add to their client base. read more

I had a similar experience to others when canceling my membership. After canceling, my "30 days" ended on the 19th of the month and my monthly fee and the yearly fee (I had not been there a year yet, only a few months and I was cancelling due to a medical situation) was charged on the 15th. I was ok with the maintenance fee ($50), it sucks, but I am willing to pay it, but to charge me the entire month for 4 days? When I went to to talk to the manager he was not there. Daryl at the front desk was very nice and kind, but wasn't able to help. When the manager, Daniel, called me to "explain", he was condescending and abrupt. Honestly, all he had to do is say he would pro-rate those four days and I would have swallowed the yearly maintenance fee. However, I guess refunding ~$20 is not worth potentially having a return client. And I'm not bringing a dr note to a gym saying I couldn't come in because I was recovering from cancer treatment. Shame on them! I will never go back. Customer service needs to be taught to these young people. read more
