a glass of wine on a table

Ok so I have to write this review but this is an absolute hidden gem (or maybe I just discovered it). I was on Yelp looking for a chill wine bar and this place looked like it fit the vibe we were going for. It seems like a speakeasy with only wine and bourbon inside the store. You can purchase bottles or have a glass in one of their quiet corners or even outside. It's definitely a great place to go to for a night cap or even a relaxed girls night.

So this is by far my absolute favorite wine bar hangout. It's my go-to "grab-a-drink and stay a while" place. I've brought several friends here and we love the wine and cocktail choices, the laid-back atmosphere, and our personalized wine experience given by Logan (he typically works during the weekend). Vines is also dog friendly, so I've brought my pup here to celebrate many occasions with me. Also, make sure to check out their wine tasting classes! Definitely one of my favorite places in Lou

For serious! How is this place not a 5* across the board! For starters - they have alcohol. Wine and bourbon. You like wine and bourbon, don't you? Of course you do. They're lovely. Bourbon is a delightful nectar given to us from the heavens. This place sells it. Wine is a spiritual gift, bidden to those whom are willing to accept it. Vines and Canines present it to those willing to accept it. Moreover - I have a puppy. His name is Cooper. He walks into Vines and he is the hit of the party. People promise to kidnap him. He is gorgeous and is treated like an absolute king. You can expect all these things at Vines. A place of tasty beverage, excellent customer service, and people envying your dogs.

No matter what you want, interesting cocktail, wine, bourbon, conversation, and more, you can probably find it here. Logan is a true connoisseur of liquor, a dichotomy of astute intellectualism and a torrent of tattoos. Whether you're talking about the latest wonder of the world or the newest innovation in whisky he will partake with genuine zeal. The atmosphere in Vines is always perfect, the people are great, and everything you want to drink is probably inside, so come on in! You don't need to have a dog but they are welcome! Couches, chairs, patio space and low noise levels make this a great place for close conversation among friends.

This is such a special spot. Exactly one year ago today my boyfriend and I went on our first date here. We started with a wine tasting with Logan, which expertly helped us to select the perfect bottle to share. The vibe was great and the room was filled with customers that acted more like family. Board games, food delivery, pizza, dancing...they even had a chocolate fondue set up - what more could you want? Fast forward to our anniversary date night last night. It was none other than Logan that picked up the phone when my boyfriend called ahead to let them know our plan to return and celebrate. He not only remembered us from our first date, but when we arrived, wished us a Happy Anniversary and had set up a full chocolate & wine tasting spread at the very same table. The wine selection was just as excellent as I remember, puppies just as cute, and vibe just as cozy. Thank you Vines for a wonderful night, and for being one of those special local spots for Louisvillians or visitors.

I believe Vines and Canines was opened just for me. I love great patios, music, wine, bourbon, dogs, and cool people. Vines and Canines has all of this and does it perfectly. If you haven't been here, you MUST try it. It is a fantastic place to take some friends, have a double date, or lounge out with your pooch. (inside or out!) Total slice of awesomeness. Its a lot bigger inside than what you would expect. There are comfy lounge chairs, barstools, and patio furniture. Take your pick. Lots of wine to choose from and everything I saw was around $30 and under for a bottle. You can either buy a bottle or buy something by the glass ($5-7 per glass?). You even pay once you are done and leaving, making it some like a cool, friendly dive instead of an establishment only wanting your money. Employees (or the owner? Not sure...) checked up on us as well, which was really nice. It felt like they really wanted you to enjoy yourself. Dogs get loved on. The other "guests" were really friendly. The wine was great and they will even chill it for you. They have trivia night on Wednesdays and "conversation" cards on the tables to play with. I don't say this often but this place is perfect. :)

Vines and canines is my new favorite winery. It's located in a a convenient and fun part of town-bardstown road area! There's a shared parking lot and plenty of street parking. The bartenders are all so helpful and friendly and good at helping me choose new wines to try. The venue is also accompanied with games to play wit your friends.

The main attraction here is that there isn't 80,000 choices for wine. I get lost in the bigger stores. The folks running this store cherry-pick only solid, tasty wines. This can be a real time-saver. Notably, the employee's know their stuff; not just some hourly worker there to collect a paycheck. The above was true at the old and new locations, but the NEW location has kicked it up a notch. They now have an intimate side-room that can be used for private gatherings and/or tastings. On many nights they now sell wine by the glass as well as a signature drink. The drink they had when I was there involved bourbon and mandarin oranges - it looked awesome - but it was a 'school night' so I stuck with a nice Americano Petit Syrah. Butter! I like 'keeping it local' and they also carry selected liquors. As always, it's pet friendly with a variety of dog paraphernalia (beds, bowls, etc.). I look forward to becoming more of a regular as they moved much closer my home (behind the iconic Twig & Leaf). Cheers!

This is a cute little wine shop. They have LoTS of unique wines. You can taste wines some nights and even pop a bottle open and enjoy it at a table. Dogs are welcome!! They encourage you to bring your dogs. This a great spot for a date night or a nice girls date with a friend! The staff is very friendly and they give great recommendations too!

Curbside pickup setup at Vines during Coronavirus restrictions

It was Friday in the time of Corona quarantining and I was looking to support a local business and have a little adventure. I've been to Vines a few times with friends and always had a great experience with their laidback, slightly sexy yet also comfortable, atmosphere and unpretentious customer service so decided I'd stock up on a few provisions there. I called to place my curbside order and said I wanted one box of Shania white since the shop's lovely owner had recommended it on their Instagram (I love that they have added more "value" options to their selection since they know folks are hurt in the pocketbook right now) and two surprise bottles! Wine is pretty personal but I'm not super picky so I told the guy a few qualities I don't like and otherwise gave him free reign to choose for me. He was definitely surprised by my request but when I arrived 15 minutes later he had picked a couple of great reds for me to try and I already love one of them!! I was so happy he indulged me and added that bit of adventure to my third #StayHome weekend :) The curbside setup that day also felt safer as I didn't have to touch a door handle, they just had the table right there!

I came here for the first time last weekend, on a Saturday evening. I love wine but I'm by no means a connoisseur. I'd read the review that the owners pick only the best wines. The wines by the glass are written on a chalkboard menu, so when you arrive you need to check that out and order at the front. It appears there are always 3-4 reds and 3-4 whites available plus bourbons. Prices ranged from 5-11 to most were about 6=8 dollars. I ordered the German Riesling and a friend ordered a recommended red (eek, can't remember) but both were amazing. We stayed longer than anticipated, just chatting with owners, other customers and playing with the dogs. A word of caution to dog owners.. If your dog isn't the best about staying indoors (mine..) keep an eye on the door. Some people weren't the best about firmly shutting it. The owner said he was looking to get a sign or stop or something... Just something to keep an eye for as both a customer and a dog owner, please keep the front door closed!! All in all, an amazing experience and I will be back! What a gem!

Awesome not to miss wine bar. The bourbon and wine selection is fantastic and unique. The old-fashioned cocktail was SO good. Plan to go, have a cocktail or two, uncork a bottle of wine, enjoy the vibe and the team that works there. Rob was fantastic with selection advice, local knowledge and general conversation. The sommelier was rad too. A can't miss if you're in the area!!

We chose the back patio and a crisp, cool white Spanish wine.

I still think it is awfully...rough feeling, but the surrounding area is having a bit of a renaissance it seems and I can only hope that it will benefit this local business and perhaps give them a nudge to nice-en up the place a bit. It is a fairly basic two-aisle liquor store. But I have found what I wanted or needed every time I have visited. Most recently it was for wine. I was in ever so dire neeeeed of some inexpensive wine (because there was a winter storm coming and a party to attend and I needed to be prepared for both!) The center aisle of shelves is mostly wine. It comes up to about waist/ribcage height (on a short, short gal like me). Everything is easy to see and easy to reach. And I was pleased and impressed with the selection of local options! Not the biggest or best selection ever, but for a small, neighborhood liquor store is was nice to see. Prices are decent, the staff is as friendly as any liquor store staff I have encountered (which might not actually be saying much, but as a comparison...you know...) I recently moved to the 'hood so I anticipate bringing them my business unless my needs are very specific or very expensive, neither of which are a regular occurrence.

Nothing inspiring, but friendly enough service. Never a destination, just a convenience. I will limit my complaining to this. There is a drive-thru for those too busy or lazy or disabled to get out of their car. And on top of that there are something like 18 parking spaces for a business that couldn't possibly need more than four or five. And to beautify the landscape, there is one small, rather neglected tree on the easement. I wouldn't ask for a garden or anything major. Maybe a flower box?

Back when I wrote my first review, in the good, old days of 2012, I lived on the same street as Old Town and it was easy to get to and had wine that I liked in my preferred price range (so...sweet, white and cheap...just like me! Hey-ooo! :-P) Now, I will regularly go out of my way to make a stop at Old Town. And these days it is primarily for their top notch beer selection! I am always prepared for the cold when I visit Old Town now, because I know I am going to be perusing the beer cave for quite some time. They rank among the top four places in Louisville I excitedly go to, in order to explore special, hard to find, interesting, sought after beer. Even if I am not looking for something specific, I am going to find something I already like if not something that piques my interest enough to try! The biggest plus of a visit to Old Town, aside from the friendly and helpful staff, is that you can buy just about all the beer options as SINGLES. This is huge. This changed my beer-drinking life. I have been able to try so many more beers because of this. When you aren't roped in to buying a four (or more) pack and the beer is 'fancy' and costs $5 or more per beer....doors suddenly open up! Old Town is in the middle of the Highlands, so parking can be tricky. They have a few dedicated parking spaces as well as a drive-thru (if you know exactly what you want) but beyond that it is going to be street parking. They still carry a great selection of wine and liquor, as well as some snack type things (thing cheese and crackers and chocolates). You should absolutely pay a visit to Old Town Wine and Spirits. Just leave some beer for me!
