Yes there's a club and they meet every 1st Thursday of the month at the OneGeneration Senior Enrichment location! My curiosity was peaked and the fact I could get a free plant on my first visit sealed the deal! Parking is plentiful in the front. Outside I thought the building looks small but it's a trick of the eye because after entering through the double doors the room is HUGE and has a stage with a big screen to project the power points. It's so spacious! I was so awed by the plants that were set up that I forgot to check the walls in case they posted what other events OneGeneration hosts but I'm sure I can find it online! As for the club it's so fun! I didn't know what to expect but I already learned some new things and there were so many species I never heard of before. Apparently once a year members also compete and bring their plants and there are thousands of cactus and succulent submissions that get judged over the 3 day event. After walking around and seeing so many new species and hearing other people's stories I'm now excited to be a part of the club! Tonight they also hosted Botany Bingo! I think they do this every few months and when you win you can choose a plant as your gift! I couldn't believe it I won the first bingo round and got a gorgeous cactus!!! For each round up to 10 people can win, and then there's 3 rounds giving plenty of people chances to win! So fun! I cant wait to research what other events are hosted at the One Generation because I had so much fun!

It's right next to…read moreThe Grove, there's always energy, and on the surface it feels like one of those iconic LA parks that should be thriving. But the second you actually spend time here, especially on a weekend, it turns into something completely different and honestly pretty disturbing. The park gets insanely packed, which already makes everything feel chaotic, but the real issue is the condition of the facilities. The restrooms are beyond unacceptable. Not just "oh it's a public park" bad, but genuinely shocking, like something that makes you stop and question how this is even allowed to stay open. I'm talking about conditions that feel neglected to the point where it's uncomfortable just being nearby, let alone going inside. I went into two different restrooms thinking maybe one was just unlucky... nope, both were equally disgusting. I'll be posting pictures because it honestly doesn't feel believable otherwise. It gives off this weird in-between vibe where you don't know if you're at a city park or some kind of neglected shelter space, and that's not something anyone should feel at a place like this. What really made it worse for me is walking into the recreation building with the basketball and volleyball courts and realizing it's the same story inside. Worn down, under-maintained, and just lacking any sense that the city is actually investing in it. Meanwhile, you literally have the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust right there being renovated and cared for, which just makes the contrast even more frustrating. How is that level of attention happening on one side, but the actual park people use daily feels ignored? It's honestly disappointing because this place has so much potential. The location alone should make it one of the best parks in LA, but instead it feels like it's being left behind. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be coming back. There are just too many other parks where you don't have to deal with this level of neglect.

They gear towards 50+ but offer intergenerational and kids classes in the afternoons as well. They have tons of exercise classes like Zumba, chair yoga, dance, Pilates, tai chi, and even a Pom Pom fitness class! They also offer art classes, mahjong, karaoke, cinema club, knitting and crochet, etc! They have fun parties and go on excursions! There even is a senior summer camp!! Their most recent field trips were to the Opera and Underwood Farms! Unbelievable! The staff here are really putting in the work to make this place amazing for the members and community. Not to mention, the membership is only $15 for the entire year and free parking! What a steal!

Currently Sensei Trace holds Judo classes twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7pm to 9pm (during the school year, Tuesdays end 1/2 hour early) at the Venice Japanese Community Center, Los Angeles. All of the Sensei's were amazing. Sensei Trace was very warm and welcoming. He took some time to evaluate my kid's favorite throws and correct their techniques. He was very insightful and helpful. If you live in the Venice or Santa Monica area, I would highly recommend trying this club out.

The cause it supports is the Jewish Home for the Aging, but that's not half the story. The events are amazing!...the group throws mixers every couple months that draw 500+ people and a summer party and X-Mas eve party that draw about 1000 people. The venues are always cool places, like the Playboy Mansion and the Shangri La Hotel on the beach. HIGHLY recommend checking out their events! It's a special group of like-minded good-hearted people that come together to put some great programs together for a great cause. My great grandmother, grandfather and recently my grandmother spent her final days at the Jewish Home. The cause is great and worthy. The Guardians is a 75 year old organization that is dedicated to raising money and awareness for them. And, the moneys that we raise go towards funding those who live there who might not otherwise be able to afford what they have. There is an amazing office staff of hard working big-hearted people who are there to support us volunteer leaders of the community. There is nothing like The Guardians. First Tuesdays of the month are Young Mens Division meetings. First Wednesdays of the month are Young Womens Division meetings. You don't need to pay to come. you don't need a reservation. You just need a big heart, the desire to contribute to your community and a willingness to meet good people.
